Recently have this on the right side of my face. Don't wish this on anyone. Talking and eating are challenging, but the worst is not being able to blink or close my right eye. Always have to have a bottle of eye moisturizer on me to keep it moist.

This was so helpful! Two days ago my tongue went numb on the left side and I thought I had an allergic reaction to something. Then two days later I noticed that I couldn’t squeeze my left eye shut and I started getting shooting pains in my ear and the back of my head. The morning after that I couldn’t close my eye all the way when blinking and my eyebrow and eyelid were sagging down a little. By that night I couldn’t smile or frown on my left side and I couldn’t eat or drink properly. Basically no movement at all on my left side. it was so fast! I was so scared I was having a stroke because sometimes I have high blood pressure and have family history of high blood pressure. Basically my doctor said they believe it can be a reaction from a viral infection like a cold sore (which I did have one a few weeks prior and have had ever since I was little) or from extreme stress which I also have 🥲 but at least I wasn’t having a stroke! I was so relieved! They said it would go away on its own after a few weeks to a few months. At least no one will really know since we have to wear masks now 😅

I had bells at the age of 11 where half of the left side of my face dropped. At first they thought it was a tumour because it’s quite rare in children to get so stressed. I had brain scans and in the end I was given antibiotics and eye drops. I’ve dealt with anxiety since the age of 4 when I was clinically diagnosed. And now I have anxiety pills to lessen the regular anxiety and sometimes panic attacks. I never really understood what happened to me so thank you for this.

Great you pinpointed that my family member has Bell’s palsy. So then how do we get the Bell’s palsy to go away? Because my wife suffered from this in September 2020 and hasn’t fully recovered from it. I need answers and I need help. She’s given up. We’ve tried the prescriptions her doctor put her on. We’ve then tried dry needling and facial massages. She got back about 65% of her function back.

I recently been diagnosed with Bell’s palsy about 2 weeks ago. At first the back pain came it was super exhausting, I’m 23 and never had any health issues. The back pain was there then the symptoms came about 2 days after. Sorry to over explain my situation but I found the mutual symptoms of back pain to be interesting.

Great lecture! So what I get out of this is that Bells Palsy affecting expressive motor movement of the face is exclusive to this disorder in absence of other stroke like symptoms like limb ataxia, expressive aphasia etc? Which would guide the clinician to decide whether or not the urgency to rule our stroke is needed.

Michael Purcell, DO they're not completely sure of the cause some say stress some say a herpes virus related to the cold sore but I have none of the above the first time it happened I was 9 I didn't actually find out what it was until 19 it's happened over and over I'm 36 now I the meds Prednisone and acyolvir did help to straighten it some but never all the way straight they told me that it's unusual for it to happen so many times but still no answers I researched this to see if it's any new remedies out and came across this vid I've seen others with it and theirs did go back to normal so guess it depends on the person

I got it left side and I'm 72 ! I was amazed and thankful it wasn't a stroke however after checking the net I was blown away discovering how many people of all ages are stricken with this. And they know little about it. They only know that in most cases it goes away usually with Prednisone after a month or two. My eye was the worst part of it. But I'm a bit better now.

Michael Purcell, DO that's great mines has never completely gone away after the many of different times its happened and i would think by now they would have figured out the cause I do believe it to be some kind of air virus because of the age difference and none of the causes the think it to be have I ever had hopefully soon they'll find out and fix this

Around 10 years ago I had a ugly argument with my bf at the time and I feel asleep crying. Hrs later I woke up to my right side of my face asleep and my lip and eye were drippy my eye wouldn't close. I went to the ER and was diagnosed with Bells Palsy and was given steroids it took about a month to get better but 10 year later I still have a drippy eye and I get weird twitches on that side of the face.

Would it be inappropriate or incorrect, In this video, to bring up Pontine stroke, which I believe can also affect face and brow with paralysis... It is my worry that ER docs will dismiss patients who present brow paralysis early, under the assumptive diagnosis of Bell's Palsy, thereby missing the opportunity to treat a pontine stroke in the first 3 'golden hours'... treatment which could save function and spare suffering. Please forgive any ignorance or naivety in my comment, I am a guitar teacher.
@Medcram
@Medcram 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question Jeff. I am also a musician. A pontine stroke is very often associated with other symptoms that should alert the clinician that this is not a Bell's Palsy. Ataxia, eye movement disorders, and vestibular syndromes are all connected with Pontine strokes and not Bell's Palsy. A brief review of typical presenting signs is listed here: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12529787

Consider a case of posterior circulation stroke, affecting one side of brainstem. If the lesion affects the whole parenchyma of the facial nucleus in the affected pontine haemorrhage side, would both upper and lower facial functions not be lost/ affected ipsilaterally? There is no suggestion of any associated vertigo, motor deficit, or presence there of. Even then...would NCCT Head not be the best diagnostic tool?

You can lower your blood pressure quickly easily and very much simpky by fasting from all but light liquids for at least 12 hours. The more regularly you can do this the better the results including excess weight loss. IDK why doc's don't tell people this but they should. So then anyway, to cure or prevent BP one should do what? Rebuild the brain or what? What, how? I had been taking metformin for the past couple years when now I get BP. How n why? Metformin depletes B12, a nerve nutrient. Had I known I would've told my PCP to go take a flying leap, the m..f'er !!
