I haven’t looked at Bella’s early videos recently and the change in her is astonishing. It just brings tears to my eyes, seeing how some people treat their horses. What a blessing for her that you saw something in her and kept her. She has responded so well to your love and care, and the companionship of Apollo and Farouk. Because I don’t know much about horses when I watched her arrive I didn’t fully appreciate what a really bad way she was in, starved and with a skin condition, and I haven’t looked back, but watching this today really upset me to see the very poor state she was in, the people who bred her should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves, it’s worrying to think they are still in the business of horse breeding. What you have done to turn Bella around is truly amazing, the correct diet, medication at the beginning, but most of all love, patience and lots of time. She is now beautiful, clever and such a lovely temperament. She is a real credit to you aTara and Rens and I look forward to watching her develop her full potential with you.

what really gets me is her utter grace, power and timing on the jumps..with such a rough start..It was painful to watch her try to walk in the beginning..the fact that she was wild delayed the pedicure even further. I feel certain her reluctance to back on an uneven surface is tied to those bad feet. While she wasn't permanently physically damaged..there certainly remains psychological damage. She seems to lose her balance when her hooves are in 2 difference surfaces at the same time..poor baby girl.

It’s heartbreaking to hear the man who delivered Bella state that you can get her to do anything for food. I guess that was because she was so underfed. Watching the three attack the hay wheelbarrow had me laughing out loud. Happy 2nd birthday to sweet Bella. Amazing how far she has come.

Gosh I'm tearing up at the poor state Bella was in. It bordered on neglect. You've such a good eye for horses and choosing ones that are right for your little herd. Bella is stunning compared to when you got her. She actually looked frightened and depressed and now her personality comes through beautifully. Bella does not seem scared so much as curious and I love the way she looked over at Rens when he was encouraging her with his voice. I see that sad, scared, hungry little thing, and think of her milestones: The first time she kicked up her heels from pure joy in the paddock, being amazingly good for her first hoof trim, trusting you to lead her through a deep ford, confidently nipping the heads of the cattle next door who made her so nervous at first, and being cheeky with her older brothers. The recipe seems so simple, just kindness, good food, medical care, and patient, consistent education. Easy, right? You and Rens must be so proud. There's something deeply special about having trust and friendship from an animal, especially when you've brought them back from neglect. Warm fuzzies all around.

I have had only minimal contact with them, but my sweet patootie and I became informal ferret rescuers. Most came from people who just couldn't keep them but at least 3 had been badly neglected or abused. It was wonderful to see a scared little deaf girl who jumped whenever she was touched turn into a bold rascal who would climb onto the bed every morning and stand on a pillow, fixing us with her bright eyes until she got her morning treat. Much less physical work than with Miss Bella but oh, so satisfying.

@@mdee860 , I don't think so. They state that all mares and their foals are outside, enjoying life. They even breed naturally in a herd. They have videos of this. I think Bella didn't get enough to eat because she is a weak low horse. She was old enough to eat hay and grass. She was probably pushed away from food by the other horses. That's herd behavior.
