Bella is very frightened and has no self confidence but she is not a nasty horse and not really spooky.

Neglect is a form of abuse. God knows what they did to her to get her ready for getting to Tara's in the trailer?
@bearythoughts18494 жыл бұрын
@@kitkatmccabe yes that was my immediate response to her comment and you are correct about neglect by ignorance is abuse whether deliberate or purely not enough time for all the foals and mares which she shouldn't be breeding so many or at all whilst doing a full time job too.

One thing is pressure & release. If she’s fearful/hesitant to do something, as soon as she gives a little, towards that thing, you give her release. That is the reward horses are after. They are thinking, what do I have to do to get this pressure to stop. Tara is doing a great job with multiple horses.she reminds me of the mustangs in the US. A lot of trainers use the “gentling“ on them. I believe it focuses on building up trust firstly, which allows them to be more willing to try things they are afraid of. If you just rush them then they don’t really ever trust you. Little Bella is probably quite overwhelmed on so many levels. I I think she is doing remarkably well! Some YT Channels I would recommend are: Mia Lykke Nielsen, “When Horses Choose”. Warwick Schiller Pat Parelli Sam VanFleet Think Like a Horse (Rick Gore/thinklikeahorse.org)

Poor Bella. I feel really bad for her that she wasn't handled when she was a baby. If they had done that, the simple things wouldn't be so stressful and potentially dangerous as they are now. You are doing so good with her and she's so fortunate to have found a home with you and Rens. Patience and kindness will go a long way in helping her develop confidence and trust.

I feel like Bella and I are learning what it means to be a horse together--we're a little confused, a little scared, and have spent time in lockdown! But take us outside, give us a treat and we will follow you into unfamiliar territory! Seriously, Bella already looks and acts so much better since she came to live with you. Once she realizes she is in horse paradise, with the guidance of her human and equine companions, she will unleash her inner crazy and enjoy being the horse she is meant to be.

Diane really did Bella and Diablo a disservice by not handling them and doing early basic work with them to be better prepared. Also both so underfed. should we be worried about these people as horse owners and breeders who don't seem to know horses or best practice? Do you think she is watching your channel and seeing the videos? Not sure if you are still communicating with her. Also Bella stopping at the grass edge, she hasn't forgotten the fall that scared her in that spot just the day previous. not a silly horse that is for sure. :-)

Oh boy Tara and Rens God Bless you both! Well here you go, it's like you suddenly have two children to raise. Sweet Bella, someone in the comments early said she has Tina Turner bangs :) She has the sweetest face. I do hope the previous owner watches these videos, she needs to see this to understand how beneficial small changes in her care would make a huge benefit in the lives of the little ones she breeds and lets go of. Well you have a plan and have worked hard to give them both time in that beautiful paddock! I remember thinking with my horses, gee we just did this yesterday, why are you so spooky today? Best thing we learned from our teacher, be smart, stay calm, carry on. He was unflappable, at least that's what it appeared to us (and the young horses). One thing I do know, Diablo and Bella won the lottery when they landed with you. I think of them as lucky one, and lucky two :) I don't think the seller could afford to pay someone to do what you are doing for these two. I have fallen in love with them both!

Still weary of the head collar going on at that stage , she's very sensitive around her head and the nose is the most sensitive as it is part that comes in contact with the ground of course , and I can only imagine that they didn't go slowly at getting the head collar on and forcefully wrestled with her to get the head collar on her for transporting her to you. She did well there was lots of scenary and moving noisy traffic, bribbery with food works as a good distraction and incentive to brave the new environment. Just hope she gets friendlier once she gains more confidence, now she is at home with patient and kind hearted people that you are.💜

I think she’s a bit up tight after the vets..n associates the head collar with something going to be done do her, which is natural. She’s learning fast..once she calms down n relaxes things will get easier ,and handling will be better. Once she learns the ropes ,and that some give you a bit of a ding all will be well. Mares I think can be a bit nervy at times..and you said she’s in heat so they may be her contributing factor. Well done Tara.

Too hot to ride today and tmrw, so washing manes, tails and fetlocks today... their bodies are fine.... Making up a jug of home made sangria for a bbq later,so will leave the girls with extra hay as will put them to bed around 4.30 instead of 6.30 so we can have a drink as our stables are nearly 3 miles away. The girls have beautiful stables, but don’t use them, they are out 24/7 but have the choice... by putting them to bed, I mean popping their sweet itch rugs on (like pj’s) giving them their feed(Denghie molasses free chaff) and checking water buckets full.... but as we doing it earlier than normal, I will put some hay out on the ground for them. Great job in getting her to move her feet and then when she’d got a bit stuck, resorting to food, no harm in that to get her out safely and without any bad experiences. It was inevitable she’d touch the fence though, they all do at some stage, but her reaction wasn’t that bad and it’s a good thing that she’ll respect the fencing in my view and as you said, I think I’d rather that then her try and go through it 👍 Your world certainly has been turned upside down Tara and you’ve got your hands full, what an experience though and as they say, every day is a learning day 😊

I think she will settle once she’s relaxed and knows her new home, and her new mum, better. I would also leave the head collar on her, it will make it easier to catch her, otherwise you might spend a lot of time circling that paddock 😄. She’s going to be stunning when she fills out.

Tara,I just wanted to let you know how excited I am to go on this incredible adventure with you . It is so interesting to watch you work with all of your horses . I know that Diablo was just Castrated and you said Bella was in heat and wondering how long before a stallion loses that , ah you know . I do know about dogs behavior , horses not so much . I can't wait for tomorrow. It will probably go well . Tfs Mary

Smart call with the sugar beets! And Rens was a familiar face for some added comfort. As for anyone who wants to complain about leaving the halter on in the paddock: there was no option considering Bella's state of mind - and no way you'd be able to catch her and get the halter back on in the paddock; I do not expect you'll be able to accomplish that for a while - this is the instance where there's always the exception to the rule. And the halter is a much better option than having Bella stuck outside overnight! Frankly, I don't think she'd still be fenced in come morning; Bella has more than enough nervous energy and fear to go right through even a 3-strand - or more! - electric fence! I was concerned for a moment when Bella voided on the lawn: that's often an indication that a horse is going to try to get a running start for a bolt and I would not expect you to be able to hang on. But, you kept Bella reassured enough to continue towards the paddock. I was both surprised and reassured when Bella took a few nibbles - I did not expect her to have any idea about grazing, or that she even knew grass was for eating if she hadn't learned from being pastured with her dam. Feral or not, colts and fillies have to be taught to graze by their mothers! Colic would not be one of my worries, yet; I would rate a higher risk of Bella starving in a field of grass as she wouldn't know it was edible. You have really accepted major challenges with both Diablo and Bella, but Bella is by far the further goal, as she doesn't even have basic survival skills as yet. One step farther along for you! And one more little success!

Well done Tara and Rens. Bella is teaching you new things, at the same time as you are teaching her. You are all on a wonderful journey together. You are both showing her that she is loved. Horses that know they belong to someone shine and are confident; just look at Farouk and Apollo!!!!! :)

Ah Bella,👠 bless your frightened little heart! Tara and Rens will care for you and treat you like a little princess.👑 I am certain of it! I'm so sorry your breeders didn't care about you. But things are changing dear filly!! Tara, as I often say, you are so patient with the horses and quite aware and attentive to their differences and needs. Every horse has its own personality and every breed has its strengths and weaknesses. Haven't we all learned that?! Great idea to give her some of her own space in the paddock.💜

You did a great job preparing for the journey to the paddock, including preparing the electric fence (especially since she was familiar with electric fences) to separate her from Diablo and the bullocks. You absolutely have to keep her halter on, and will have to continue to leave it on when you turn her out, for the time being. At this point, I know you really want to avoid any negative experiences for her, given how timid she is, so that preparation was well considered. I think some of her hesitancy walking onto the grass is that she remembers her backflip! But you handled her very well, as always. Bella is very pretty and will only get more beautiful as she fills out. You and Rens have your work cut out, but you guys are definitely the right people for the job. You have the patience of a saint … which she needs desperately until she gains some self confidence. You are calm and reassuring every step of the way. Your experience from your years with horses will be put to work with Bella. Thank goodness she likes her food (as most horses do) and responded to that. I think I can see evidence that she is trusting you a bit more and over time that will grow. I am sad that she is suffering such stress now … likely much of this could have been avoided if her breeder had done some basic training. Goodness knows how they got her loaded into the trailer to bring her to you guys. But you have been exactly what she needs and hopefully, with ongoing patience and persistence, she will be a different horse in a few months. Looking forward to the next video.

I feel like she's already looking better, having just been with you even just this short time. I can't see her ribs as prominently. Great idea splitting the poddock in two with the electric fencing to help introduce them slowly! I'll email you later about my adventures today. It's 3am here, and I only just got home an hour ago. Trying to wind down to go to bed, lol. Hint which I'll elaborate on in my email: it did not go as planned!

Tara, Bella acts just like Diablo did at first, like she has never walked on grass before, I've never seen anything like it. Someone needs to do some serious investigation on their breeder. These horses have been so neglected that it's suspicious. Sad to see horses so unprepared for the simplist of things, like grass. Good luck, they just need time and a whole lot of patience.

I found with my nervous yearlings if i stayed next to their shoulders and worked slightly behind their heads they didn't back up. I rested my hand on the top of their nose it stopped them putting their heads up and they were never any trouble to get their halters and later bridles on.... I always spent a lot of time stroking their heads everytime i could so they didn't stress about halters

I am so sorry that you had to give Diablo back to the Breeder, but I am very glad that you decided to keep Bella. I think that she will turn out to be a fantastic horse when she is all grown up and broken . I think that she will end up being bigger than Ferouk.. What a ride she will be,I can hardly wait to see her. Jane.
