I never finished this movie, so imagine my surprise when that child abuse bomb was dropped, as well as the whiplash I got when this turned into a Beauty and the Beast clone after seemingly setting up a wildly different story. So when I started watching this movie, I was expecting to cry. This quickly got reduced to just a mild interest in the art style, which eventually also petered out. Good to know that I didn't miss much, story-wise. But real talk; Erased mentioned?!?! That show is so good, I love that you brought it up! I definitely think it handles child abuse in a much more mature way. Anyway, this was a great video. Funny, but also very well thought-out with properly founded arguments and a clear point. Definitely a good/10. 👌🏻

Hello! I'm in LOVE with your commentary style??? I barely comment on anything but imagine my shock seeing this video had under 500 views. I really enjoy as well how you get to the meat of what you have gripes with, as I find some channels will begin a whole montage on "what is child abuse, is it ok? No it is not" - which adds precious filler time to the video. Oh! But also I really did enjoy this video (I came here after seeing one of your TTS vids), and honestly I was worried that the 'reveal' for the beast would be he is an old sad man, so seeing he ended up being way younger than the main character was quite a reversal lol. The former is a trope I'm so used to seeing in manga/manhwas, so at least there was something how do you say - original there? I also really liked your end idea of switching the character who was 'the beast', and which is especially fitting as it reflects on the theme that inner and external lives may be in total opposition. I too enjoy interesting animation but value character arcs as one of the most important parts of a movie. Not an issue for e.g. Spiderverse, but it sounds like the movie struggled to ground their arcs in reality. Good video!

Yeeeeaaah I went to the cinema to see this and it felt like a massive session of confusion when people were so highly praising it. I expected it to be the next Your Name in terms of quality but it just wasn't it. Belle and the beast didn't really develop at all, it felt forced as hell and I'm absolutely with you on the what the actual hell, a bunch of grandmas behind a computer screen are encouraging a teenage girl to travel across the country alone to respond to a domestic violence, wtf??

I agree that it would have been more interesting if the Beast was someone she knew, like a classmate, or the kid her mom saved. Is it a big coincidence? Yes. Is this movie celebrating fairy tales, the genre of coincidence? Also yes.
