Playing out of position with ppl they’re not quite used to, it’s going to increase thinking time plus add movement that’s slow & slightly robotic. It can be fixed but is very unlikely with Gareth’s teeny tiny nads.

I think Trippier is being made scapegoat personally, if the team had been more clinical he’d of had about 3 or 4 assists in this tournament and the attackers are squandering chances, whether it’s Kane not being where he should be, poor headers or Foden not doing the basics of timing his runs. Walker however has largely got away with sub-par performances game after game
@juanteranlopez49006 ай бұрын
The issue is that although Trippier does have an amazing cross on him, he playing LB narrows the pitch so much, the opposition never has to worry about trips going on the outside because EVERY SINGLE TIME, he will cut in to pass
@hartshaped6 ай бұрын
I get that and I agree but in all fairness, he isn't a left back, he's doing his best in a position that Gareth is forcing him to play and rather unfairly being singled out by a lot of people for playing a role he's not a natural at and conveniently ignoring the fact that regardless, he's been creating multiple chances and this England team are squandering them time after time, this is a player that hasn't had the best of seasons but still contributed something like 10 assists For me, personally I think there's more of an argument for giving Trippier a go at his proper position at right back because so far like I said, Walker has done very little this tournament to really look like he's contributing much to the team, players are getting past him and he most certainly isn't creating the amount of chances Trippier has been from a position he isn't a natural at.

Would make more sense to play Gomez LB and Trent RB, gives balance cus both of the know exactly how to play and would play with a klopp style system than Southgate
@dylanbaker65896 ай бұрын
Starting Tripper over an experienced left back in Joe Gomez is nothing short of ludicrous, especially after watching the original tactic categorically fail for 4 straight games. Kyle Walker has shown that, unfortunately, after a stellar career, he's a complete liability now. Trent is the best right back in the squad and must start from now on. Rice, Mainoo, Bellingham is the correct midfield, but how Wharton hasn't been given minutes is ridiculous, especially given the fact England have needed an influx of forward thinking creative play in every single game. Bowen was given a cameo in game one, immediately gave Kane the best chance he's had all tournament, showed pace and desire Saka could only dream of and has somehow appeared to have played himself out of Southgate's mind entirely. Palmer starting over Saka, at this point, cannot be disputed by anyone bar the most ardent, bad faith Arsenal fans, it's a complete no-brainer. Anthony Gordon has played for 2 minutes and done more than Foden in 4 games, and yet cannot get a game, even when England were faced with a 37 year old full back. You guys obviously have to toe the line and be diplomatic when it comes to Southgate, but at this stage it's gone beyond farce. He's completely inept, and we have absolutely no chance of winning this tournament unless he radically changes things, something we all know he won't. We will start against Switzerland with the exact same team, other than Konsa coming in for the suspended Guehi.

It’s looking very likely that Konsa will start next game, either to replace Guehi or Trippier (if he is injured). Gomez has clearly been lackluster in training if Southgate is trusting Konsa ahead of him even at LB.

How about Klopp as our next manager? He's not got much going on in the near future, it wouldn't be the constant pressure of the PL and we know he can get the best from players.
@InstigatorDJ6 ай бұрын
Yes, yes he should. Joe can play in every position across the back and has even played in midfield for Liverpool and did well as a DM. He is also not scared to beat a player on the outside instead of Trippier's usual lay back.

I do wonder if England will play better against more talented teams? Slovenia had a strategy to cut down the space for both England and Portugal to play to compensate for lack of quality, but more expansive teams with better quality may not play in such a way.

Its interesting what Micah says at 20 mins about both Saka and Foden always wanting to come inside. We dont really have attacking players who prioritise just getting it in the box, Beckham style. Everyone seems to want to score themselves and it breaks down.

trent & saka from right & left can supply enough good crosses to win the tournament, has to be jude +1 in the box, kane is undroppable but on merit you might want palmer or toney there

I think there is one aspect to the Southgate game plan that nobody is considering. Yeah, we lack the sort o forward momentum we want to see - but it strikes me as at least partially deliberate. I genuinely think Southgate's big idea is to try to bring teams onto us, leaving wider gaps in their midfield/defence. But the teams we've faced so far haven't taken the bait. This might change when we're up against teams with more confidence - in games that are more open. Southgate has always set his teams up to 'stretch play' - usually with very wide wingers. This reluctance for our defenders to get forward with the ball might be a part of that grand scheme. It has obvious drawbacks - primarily being that if the opposition doesn't chase the ball, they don't tire as much and so it is harder to finish them off in the last third of the game.

There will be no Gomez, Gordon, Palmer or Trent. There will be no Toney or Watkins from the bench. It will be someone in for Guehi (probably Konsa) and that will be it. Southgate will take the Slovakia win as proof that his system is working. It is torture to watch England play so deep with zero counter attacking threat or outlet. The build up is like they’re crossing No-Man’s Land, stepping back and sideways and very carefully advancing with sheer trepidation

RE: The first question. This might be over-simplistic but why wouldn't you choose a system and then pick the best player who plays a specific role for their club in the same role? that way they'd be no confusion because all the international manager is doing is asking the player to do more or less the same job they do every week.

This off the cuff point, Man City are much more stringent than Liverpool who's players are able to adapt to anything because they swap constantly and move freely. Gomez should get a look in now.

Joe Gomez was so good for Liverpool at left back, yet he gets ignored for some reason. Statistically he was the best performing English left back last season, yet he’s overlooked because he’s not an exiting player who’ll score and assist. Weird

I know Kane hasn't been sharp in his link up play this tournament (might be due to missing the last couple of weeks of the season with a back injury) but generally his all round game is excellent, holds up the ball well, great passer, great vision, leathal finisher. If his all-around game clicks then we will play a lot better.
