On my second full day of my travels in NW Washington, I took the Amtrak Cascades to and from Bellingham, Washington. Bellingham is the closest large town to the Canadian border, and is the home of Western Washington University.
It was a perfect day, with some good energy. And I met a friend and we ate ice cream!
Bellingham is actually a fair sized city, with around 100,000 people, so this video just shows the area around the Fairhaven Amtrak Station and downtown. I wish I had more time to spend there!

Great video. The South Bay Trail you walked was originally the Northern Pacific Railroad grade up to and including through the alley. Railroad Avenue was the original railroad yard in Bellingham for what eventually was the Milwaukee Railroad. TW

That is interesting! I actually knew about The Milwaukee Road through Montana, I didn't know that it went up to Bellingham. In some of my other videos, I talk about how natural resource/transport cities in the Pacific States eventually became tourist/resort/university cities (I live in Corvallis, which fits the description!) If I would have spent more time in Bellingham, I probably would have talked about it more, but since this was my first time there, I just gave the short description. I am glad you liked my video!

Great to get a look at Bellingham. You are getting close to Canada.

I was! I actually met a Canadian friend there. I would get even closer to Canada the next day, in the San Juans.

Alaska ferry only goes to Skagway and Haines.

These particular ferries do, but the Alaska Marine Highway goes further. I was trying to contrast how the transit center had buses across and around town, but just right next door someone can start on a journey that goes all the way out to the Aleutians. Although, at the time, I might have been hazy on the details.

@@glowingfish Usually the Homer-Kodiak ferry will come south one time and then go back up through open ocean to get to Homer and Kodiak. And Whittier. It’s not a smooth transportation system by any means, and not easily connected. No service to Yakutat this summer. I used ferry when it went all the way to Seattle from The Southeast Ak. And lived in Bellingham when it was moved there. I lived in Seward when the Trusty Tusty went to Kodiak. And I lived in Kodiak Island too in 71-72.

My camera sees better than I do, especially when it is zoomed in, so sometimes I will say what I see---but the camera sees something better. Especially with something like types of coniferous trees, a lot of times I am going to be speaking in vague language.

Not bad for an Interloper. I guess some people like to pretend they have a voice someone wants to hear. Next call your mommy.

That seems to be a really hostile reaction to what is a simple video of me enjoying seeing a town. I also don't know why I am an "interloper".

it truly saddens my heart that there are so many white people in bellingham.
@glowingfish

Why should that be sad? I feel sorry that more of the indigenous history isn't preserved, and diversity always makes places more interesting, but I don't see why people of any race should be a problem.

@@angelcontrerasanaya3164 well, the cost of living has gone up all over the west coast! So Bellingham is less expensive than California, but it is still pretty expensive. I actually moved to Costa Rica, myself!
