This one was harder than Hellfire ! The language was more difficult, especially during the conversations (it was quick !) But I hope the result will be nice and useful !
By the way, I would like to put a video like this one on the Court of Miracles (I heard many people were looking for a translation) but I don't have the music...if anyone is interested in sending it to me, I would be very grateful ! Please contact me !

I love how in this version it's "is the man a monster, is the monster a man" rather than just "who is the monster and who is the man"

The music is amazing but the French version just elevates the song to brilliant. I usually like both the original and the French dub for Disney, but this is one of the rare films where I find the French version is far better.

+SunnydaleArchives the french translation lack of some message... like : 2:40 in the video, it's 'judge claude frollo fights vice and sin of a filthy world who must be purged" I think it's more epic, but the original is " and he saw corruption everywhere, except within" that say that frollo is focused on the sin out but don't mind the sin inside of him.

My company sent me to live in Paris around the same time the movie was released. I arrived with no French skills so I used this movie to help my ear and practice cadence and pronunciation. To me, it's the original. When I returned to the US and heard the English version it sounded thin in comparison; the French version is much richer and emotional. The voice cast is perfect. Claude Frollo just sounds EVIL. Sorry Tom Hulce, your French counterpart just "fit" better.

Hehe, I find it mildly amusing that they used Clopin's English VA for that final note. But I suppose the fact that ANYONE could reach that note is something of a miracle. :P

If you follow the French voice, you can hear the singer (Bernard Alane) doing this final note. She's just covered by the English VA added and the chorus.

-On va s'faire repérer ! -Chut, mon petit ! Clopin : Cours gitane ! (Chœur : Dies irae, Dies irae Dies illa, Dies illa Solvet saeclum in favilla Quantus tremor est futurus Quando Judex est venturus) La gitane : Asile ! Pitié je demande asile ! (Choeur : Quantus tremor est futurus Quando Judex est venturus) Frollo : Un bébé ? Ah ! Il est monstrueux ! (Chœur : Solvet saeclum in favilla Dies irae, Dies illa) L'Archidiacre : Non ! Clopin : Cria l'Archidiacre.

Beautiful, though something always gets lost in the translation. There is a big difference between "This creature could be useful soon" and "of use to me." The original English deeply sets Frollo's arrogance and ego as his defining features from the very beginning.

***** @ 6:06 you can hear the cut to the original singer. The moment that the word "Dame" is said, right on the "D". It literally sounds exactly the same because it is the same. Have you heard the American version? Unless the Frenchman, whose voice is deeper anyway, just decided to mimic the original singer's voice exactly.

Omg it doesn't matter what language I listen to this in I am covered in goosebumps this song is just incredible side note, this movie is dark! (tho light compared to the original) when did the disney company read this and think , hmm we should make the movie with really heavy subject matter into a childrens movie, with still some pretty damn heavy subject matter. I never liked this movie as a kid , but when I re-watched it as an adult I loved it a lot.

@Malon4Ever I need to read the book some time. I guess Disney films work best when they can create a definite villain. For a more faithful version of Frollo, we could always ask Hayao Miyazaki to give his interpretation. His characters are always more balanced.

In a movie where words like "Hell", "Damnation", and "kill" are tossed around numerous times and are to be taken seriously, not to mention Paris itself is quite literally transformed into Hell, lust and hate drive the antagonist, and the fact that it is implied that a lot of people died, this movie really did prove that people really shouldn't automatically assume that animated Disney movies are "kiddy". XD This wasn't even the first film to do so, however; at the very least, there was the movie "The Black Cauldron" before this one, but the 100% pure dark and mature nature of that movie is why it was so unpopular...in fact, it remains so today...:/
