@@319metresMW That depends on several factors, including local, company, port-of-call, etc. What was Captain Mark going to do if Danny refused to give him his phone? Take it by force? Some courts (again depending on local) that phones are personal property and cannot be taken away unless it is for public safety or something along that. You can argue from the episode that Captain Mark was right for taking his phone, but we know for sure what Danny did, Mark did not. Remember we are seen a post-edited version of events that already happens. Whereas the crew is a reaction to those events in real-time. Captain Mark did that, taking the phone away, based solely on the word of the first officer, who clearly does not like Danny, and to the best of my knowledge without talking to Danny. There is an episode where the other guy, Danny's roommate threatens him physically and kicks him out of his cabin. And nothing happens to that guy. if I was the Captain that guy would have been gone the next day. Not saying Danny was right, but when you physically threaten someone that is taken to another level.

Correction: they didn't MAKE him lose his tips. Perhaps people can look at Bobby constantly abusing him and making it toxic. As an Irishman I’ve seen that plus can rationalise it. You have a young lad who is small with three alpha males and numerous women trying to impose themselves. He is delicate and emotional and indulged. With someone like that you don’t try and take the stick right away and beat him instead of the carrott. If they had have encouraged him and given some allowance. Seen it in numerous occasions. You also have a biased captain. With every staff member craving authority they try to project that on Danny. I have to say I agree. He went too far, but actually an older brother approach would have been better. I just watched the episode and to be honest I felt Bobby was annoyed so deliberately tried to get Danny in trouble. Realistically the note was cheesy, but his heart was in the right place. Had Bobby left it, or sat down and said don't you think you are coming on a bit strong. It would not have escalated and everything would have been fine. And probably the reason the crew got such a big tip was because of him, which I thinks sucks for him, since he didn't get a share. Think if he grew up with a mother and sisters, with his Dad not really contributing, he is probably used to trying to comfort girls, and it was just his nature. Yes making out was inappropriate. But chatting to the guests, if they like it, than I fail to see he problem as long as he still does his job. Saying his job is not to make the guests happy just seems odd to me.

If you think that ANYTHING Danny did was appropriate, you're dead wrong! Kissing that girl and then trying to give her a poem has to be one of the top 10 dumb ideas in BD history, lol. Especially the way he spoke to his superiors, including his Captain. I don't recall if this was his first job in yachting, but he certainly acted like it was!

Professionalism is a matter of opinion. As long as the guests (or the girl) are fine with what Danny is doing i.e.. the poem then there is nothing wrong with it. They want the crew to be basically slaves.

@ Yes, but the reality is that deckhand or anywhere is there to give the guests the best possible service. If he helps the guests have a better experience, so what? Also, the reality is that both are humans regardless of what anyone thinks. So they have a connection. If you watch later seasons, the same stuff happened and nobody loses their mind. Unlike here.

@ You are correct I have never seen a captain take away someone's job. However, I am not even sure if that is legal or not or against the company's policy. I understand that is a job, but again it seems to be a double standard. It not alright for him, but fine for others. Again, if she gave him her number and allow her to take pictures, then it fine. Also, it is not part of their job to be dressing up and dance/stripping for the guests, but that had been seen a couple times. The reality is that they did not like Danny, so they (at least three) bullied him. The only one who seems to like him was Ben.

@ I had never seen a captain take away someone's cell phone. Yes, the captain has the last word, but he still must obey laws and company policies. When he tells Danny to remain in his cabin, that is only normally done with someone on a boat or ship who is in legal trouble/criminal. Not in a case like this. Also, in not where they are at. It based on the nation they fly their flag. Ships based in England, flying a British Flag must obey British laws. A Ship based in Greece, flying a Greek flag must obey Greek laws. On top of that to the international Maritime laws.
