One of the keys that makes the Challenger (and the Daytona concept) look so timeless, is that you can't see the head or taillamps in side profile. Evey other vehicle in production today has huge insect like illumination that dominates the design.

For the wheelbase keep this in mind - you’re comparing a challenger to a charger concept. The challenger has always been known to be smaller than the charger. In the 60s and 70s the charger was on a B body Mopar platform. While the challenger was on the A body Mopar platform. The new charger from 2006 to 2023 is on a old Mercedes platform. The challenger from 2008 to 2023 is just a shortened version of that. So the difference in wheelbase may not be just because of an EV design but design intent to keep the charger a longer car as it has always been.

The design is meant to be a true 4 seater coupe. Also, the original Charger was a large coupe and the challenger was a smaller mid size coupe. They are taking the charger back to its original roots in that regard. They also have a 4 door V on this platform that'll follow.

The c pillar on the original Charger sits directly on top of the rear wheels, not behind it, and the side window corner ebds where the wheel arch begins. They could have kept those proportions and still have a comfortable back seat. A solution could be to move the front wheels and front end forward and make the trunk longer.

The Challenger is midsize? Its a full size coupe, it has larger dimensions than a C217 Mercedes S class coupe which is a full size coupe. The challenger's problem is the terrible use of interior space, which makes it feel like a midsize vehicle

The V8’s are ending production, i6 IS the ICE engine going forward for these cars. Stellantis has said as much- there’s no V8 conspiracy- no secret V8 coming- not anytime soon. Dodge is a niche automaker now that doesn’t make the money over at Stellantis- STLA isn’t investing billions for a new V8 family for 150,000 total sales per year. Dodge was a different company back in 2001 when the gen III semi-HEMI’s were developed for the trucksx.. Dodge was a full line automaker back then, selling 5,6x of what the company sells today.

The C pillar of the concept reminds me of the '66 to '67 Charger rear end bodystyle (with the thick C pillar that reaches behind the rear axle), versus the current production Challenger, which has the same (albeit modernized) bodystyle of the '69 Challenger and up (not all the way up, obviously) Years might be off, but I know for a fact that the C pillar of the concept reminds me of the '67 Charger. I think it looks even more like the 2nd gen 1970 Charger, with the shoulder line sloping down towards the front of the door and stopping (in 1970 it had the fake vent things, and in the current gen sedan, it's a larger indent). However, what looks worse on the new Charger SRT Daytona is that the roof line is a curved slope that comes down in a weirdly smooth arch, whereas the older ones have a straight line coming down to the trunk, and also a longer rear.

4:16 I see another problem: how in the hell are you going to get enough air into the engine bay? That grille at the bottom isn’t going to cut it alone, especially for the massive V8s that power ICEs, or even just an I6 would need far more air than that tiny little grille can supply. You would need to redesign the entire front end and completely ditch the R-wing at the front so u can convert all of that space into another grille to lead more air into the engine, which isn’t the most elegant solution in terms of engineering because that means more panels would have to be made just to accommodate the ICE. Also, we’ve been hearing that the Charger EV will get a 2 speed gearbox similarly to the Porsche Taycan. Maybe that’s what we’re seeing

I was amazed on how long the doors and rear greenhouse were when I first saw it. It could easily be a 4-door with very little modifications (just shorten the front doors a bit). I can see why the Charger and Challenger nomenclature could easily be swapped around between the coupe and sedan styles, though I find myself confusing the names often even before this concept was released. The rear greenhouse reminds me of a smoother Audi A5 which is also a design I really love and has aged well over its many years.

While I like what you did with the greenhouse, and certainly feel it looks a bit odd, I'm almost certain it was designed that way, as well as the lengthened wheelbase, to at least accommodate rear passengers better. At best, I'm almost certain there'll be a 4dr variant of this same model. I'd actually like to see your interpretation of that with Photoshop. I'd also suggest the '99 Charger concept as a reference too (arguably, the inspiration for Mercedes first 4dr coupe, after they "merged" with Chrysler). That said, I believe the Charger concept looks and is named that way to be the successor to not only the current sedan, but the original, which was only a (large) coupe, in the 60s. It was "weird" to many when it debuted with 2 extra doors in '05. But this all brings me back to this model probably serving as the replacement for both the sedan (with an eventual 4dr option) and the Challenger coupe. It'd be nice to have two different wheelbases, as the Challenger is already larger than the Mustang, but oh well. I'm personally looking forward to this, now that my toddlers can climb out of their car seats, lol.

I have heard of a rumor that Chrysler was thinking of a 4dr Charger in 1969-70, based on the 4dr Mustang prototype that was built and tested by Ford. That never happened, only resulting in the 69 Thunderbird 4dr if memory serves. Those are now very rare. But it was a luxury car, so a 4dr Charger never happened. But def, the greenhouse is way too big, and to me looks goofy. The production body is even more goofy with the angle of the B pillar going rear ward now. Its an odd duck, made to rush for the 24MY, plus the change in schedule, so 24s will be a limited run.

Couldn't agree more about the c-pillar. Pushing it up just that much, makes it look at ton better. I'd also prefer the bottom of the rear to be a touch higher, too. Or at least slope up quicker from the bit starting behind the wheel when the c-pillar is moved forward. Right now, that pillar is in no-man's-land. Pushing it back, to make a shooting, would also be sweet if integrated cohesively. Great vid as always bud.

The original Chargers were 2 doors. When they brought out the 4 door Chargers a lot of people were upset that they used the name of a 2 door car. Now we've gotten used to it, and it seems strange that the Charger is a 2 door again. Somebody posted a list of expected engine options. It was like full EV, I-6 twin turbo hybrid, i-6 twin turbo, i-4 turbo hybrid, and i-4. That's probably how it will be. The interesting thing will be which ones get AWD. And how much weight will the batteries put on the rear wheels. Of course everyone wants a V-8, including me, but these cars will still be fast. I bet the Tesla Plaid is in the crosshairs.

What program do you use for the drawing on screen? Ive been trying to do something similar for some time, but nothing works out right. I have a very VERY old photoshop version (ver 7..not 7.0, but 7 from 1996 or so), but it doesnt work on Win10 which is needed for OBS and my editing stuff. (my regular pc is Win7, and XP) As far as the car, we did know that there would be the base and mid trims as gasoline cars, with the Hellcat replacement (Daytona Banshee) being EV. I saw those photos and theres no way the Hemi will fit. Plus, the plant making the Hemi is shutting down this year, and is pumping out enough engines for Direct Connection, warrantie claims and whatever the Durangos will use in 24. The trans tunnel is very small for the HP series (maybe the Tremec might fit?). I think its the new transmission mated to the Hurricane. That is what they announced. The car to me looks ...not so great, especially in person. But hey, some people will like it. But, the EV will destroy Dodge. There are HUGE problems already with the Hurricane ECUs, the infotainment system that will go in these cars are having a lot of problems, a lot of warranty work so that will transfer over to the LB.

But Dodge has a history in internal combustion. I mean there are two separate generations of the Hemi, that are or were the gold standard for Top fuel Drag racing. Their Gen 3 hemi is by far the most popular of all the hemi types, east to get build and setup. I even look forward to the Hurricane I4 and I6 engines as future choices for rot rodders. A 2 door Charger isn’t weird. It was always a 2 door until the new version came out. From the 1960’s to the 1980’s it was a 2 door. Even though i liked the 4 door Charger it didn’t really fit the Charger name by design. The new one goes back to its roots.

Peugeot sells ICE and EV variants on nearly all models. Stellantis knows how to build a flexible platform which GM should have done with Ultium. Stellantis needs flexibly for it's various brands (under the skin this suits Alfa and even Maserati). Charger is the bigger seller & I'd love to see a coupe design not altered expect for the addition of frameless windows and four doors. Buick would have been brilliant to do this with Avista. Ralph Gilles is the best designer. Some people don't believe we will see EV mandates in US by 2035 because of a lithium shortage and difficulty disposing of batteries.

I'm glad that we have such an expert like you that could sit there and determine visible body change and physical dimension change for those of us that well, you know, really see this right, so I'm glad that we have such an expert there from Dodge to tell us where these changes are gonna be. But can you really tell us? Is it going to present a gas engine or not? That is the question remaining that is still unanswered even by a professional that such as yourself? Who has not answered this very same question yet? You've gave a lot of other scenarios, but yet have not answered this question.

You're absolutely right about the longer trunk line and better slope of the C pillar. The current design makes it look more like a hatchback, not something appropriate for a muscle car. The new EV Mustang suv just looks stupid.

Hi Bembli, as always, enjoyed your content! 👍 - But although your video was a comparison of the upcoming Dodge Charger SRT Daytona vs. the outgoing Dodge Challenger, wouldn't a fairer comparison, at least exterior wise, have been a comparison of the '71 Dodge Charger to the upcoming Dodge Charger SRT Daytona? I ask b/c I thought that I'd heard that the '71 Charger was the inspiration for the upcoming, new Charger? Just wondering. Btw, please keep bringing us the awesome content! 👌 Peace 😎

im really really hoping that if they do a variant with a v8 itll at least be a hybrid bc the whole reason those large v8s were discontinued in the first place (correct me if im wrong) was bc of those emissions regulations. mercedes benz shoulda done the same thing with the E63 and C63

Could it also be, that the next upcoming Dodge Charger, and may-be the return of a mid-engine version of the Dodge Viper, and another one they should bring back to life, the Dodge Magnum station wagon. In which all could be ordered with the modern 426 Hemi (426 Hellephant, I probably spelled that wrong) 1000 plus horsepower. Also keep the production of the Dodge Challenger rolling with an addition of bringing back the smaller Barracuda (Chrysler Cuda, pared up the 300 Letter car) Also bring back the Dodge Dakota. With all these models sharing this engine and lesser power plants as an option! Inclosing, I do like the looks of the up-and-coming Dodge Charger, a definite step in the right direction, and I do like your ideas on some chances that should be made, make mine a Hemi!!! Loved the report! I love the Dodge Challenger, always have since 1970. Mopar On.

How about a 6 cylinder engine, NA or Turbo? Would be smaller and lighter (dont know by how much), hence better agility and higher mpg.
@brandonsealey4511
@brandonsealey4511 8 ай бұрын
I understand your thinking but a muscle car isn't about 'agility and mpg', it's about sound, experience and emotion. I've had my charger for 12+ years...I still smile when I start up that V8 in the morning. The only 6 cylinder engines that incite emotion like that are the old 12v VR6 - or 3.2 liter VW/Audi motors, GTR's 3.8 liter engine sound great, Supra's inline 6 was more about induction noise but they are okay too. I am not a fan of the 'crackle tuned' Inline 6 Turbo BMW's right now. A V8 just sounds better - that baritone burble is just chef's kiss.

The V8 are gone !!! Now with that being said If I remember right the STLA Large is designed to have both ICE and EV along with all the STLA Medium and Small chassis. I don't see the Hemi making its return but why would Stellantis spend all the time and research on the 3.0l Turbo engines just for 1 model we already know it going to be used in the 2025 Ram 1500 and the Grand Cherokee as well. 420hp or 510hp is nothing to sneeze at as they move the Big Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer with some great authority !!!
