@ChintanPandya016 жыл бұрын
Lol. Are you seriously comparing autocratic rule to India? Clearly you have no appreciation of how much oppression goes on in these countries. In India you have absolute freedom compared to these countries. India is the world largest democracy and we threw away the British rule to gain our freedom. Freedom in our nation's soul. Shit like this will never happen in India.

Yameen won because of the support of several rich party leaders. Many of them hired a lot of people in their respective companies and were the source of income for many maldivian families. Even with the support, Yameen won only by a small margin. Yameens mistake was that he turned on all of them after being elected. These party leaders switched sides over to the opposition which saw a lot of votes come in. Things are peaceful now but dont make any bets untill the next month when presidents switch. Yameen is not the kind of guy to step down without a fight.

Autocracy is probably the only way they will stay afloat. But it is more for the tourist than the people. While democracy tries to balance both but will fail as the people want what's best for them maybe turning on its economy.

I, too, have lived on an island-nation, and so many things just sound too damn familiar. 1. Corruption rules (kind of goes without saying...) 2. Majority of locals are so horribly stupid, propping up corrupt politicians who buy the populace off with cash and electronics 3. Awfully xenophobic due to inferiority complex/populist talk of "the evil white man is coming to re-colonise us!", despite the #1 source of income being either foreign aid/investment. 4. All talk and no show, hence why they're all 2-3 decades behind in development. 5. The "private sector" are also at the same time the elites of the community, the most notorious bribers, heads of just about everything from infrastructure to finance to the judicial system. Worst part of all is, when trying to discuss issues such as these in the West, you are automatically branded a racist.

Democrats rigged the primary election against Bernie for Hillary. Democracy in the US is broken.
@S2Tubes6 жыл бұрын
Party nominations can legally be rigged. Bernie could have chosen to run as an independent, of course all he would have done is hand Trump an even easier win as he split the left vote, which is why he didn't.
@ChintanPandya016 жыл бұрын
Lol. Democracy is what keeps people like Trump in check. And anyway Trump isn't as bad as the dictators in this video. He's still doing a few things good for the US. I find it funny that you're questioning democracy based on just one election. Democracy is what makes Nations like the US, UK and India great.
