Zack Talender nailed it on the head. Health and performance aren't synonymous, and recovery is crucial in elite performance competition. I wager most elite crossfit athletes are likely taking gear simply to dial in their recovery first and foremost, then to improve their strength and power.

ben bergeron once said that rene descartes was wrong when he said: "I think, therefore I am" and that this was a wrong statement. Namely, when bergeron was meditating he wasn't thinking and was existing at the same time. When I heard that, I terminated my comptrain subscription immediately.

@@hillerfit the goal of descartes was to create a statement that assured him of his own existence. Since if you are thinking, you must exist. I notice a lot more of it in the womens field how low of body fat they have all year long. There is a discussion to be had about how they manage it (anavar *cough cough*)but the bottom line is having single digit body fat year round is not great for your body. Marcus Filly claims that he stays at 5% year round which most doctors would agree is not healthy.
@hillerfit2 жыл бұрын
@@codierussell6587 When I think "health" I think living a day to day life with no pain and sickness. While most "athletes" are not sick (possible hormone profile messed up) then sure are beat usually
@amorfati49272 жыл бұрын
@@codierussell6587 I do always find the body fat % thing pretty funny as to how far people end up being off. Marcus is definitely lean but 5% is so friggin lean with so many striations like Helmut Strebl. Most lean people have their estimate body fat percentage off between 3-5%. Definitely right on body fat. Body fat of certain percentages is essential for the body. Women definitely run into hormonal problems if they dip quite a bit below healthy levels of body fat (and there are plenty of stories of missed cycles and other stuff). PED talk in elite sport is just exhausting to talk about at this because it’s so obvious. It’s just so much more obvious with the women because certain subsets of the population who think physically women can do anything men can do/have the same body fat percentages/so on and so forth basically denying biological reality just keep talking and know absolutely nothing of what they are talking about. And you’re not a misogynist to know and speak about biological realities… no matter how much people want to say you are.
@codierussell65872 жыл бұрын
@Amor Fati I completely agree. I would say most of the womens field sits around 10% which is extremely low for women. I also agree that the majority of women competing at this percentage are using something. The ones that do have more body fat I would say have a better chance at being natty. As much as I suspect someone like Dani Speegle is probably still using (or at least skirting around what is legal) personally I think she looks way more natural than say Tia. Even when you look at the mens field they look to carry more fat than most of the womens field which is counter-intuitive. Not to say that I don't think a lot of the men are using as well.

Spent about 5 months in the Boston area a few years ago and the place we were renting while we were there was right down the road from Tilt (one of Ben's gyms), so I signed up. The lack of volume was brutal, and I'm just an average mid 40 year old crossfitter. I don't do crazy volume, but when ever class you walk away feeling like you did next to nothing, it's crazy. I ended up by a bunch of stuff from Rogue so after I hit Tilt, I could head back to the house and put in some more work. His lack of volume at his box I would not be surprised if it carried over to his elite athletes.

It comes down to the PEDs they are taking. You don’t want excess muscle in CF, but you do want to go for days and have fast recovery. The Tour De France has proven the subtleties of PEDs in endurance, being possibly the highest endurance level. People always seem to think about mass gaining PEDs rather than endurance based.

People love to hate winners, but he’s also got it coming for more reasons than that, too. I just don’t think he deserves most of hate he gets from people, but some nonetheless.

First off - Talender is a nerd that did the best he could with the genetics he was given. I give him full credit for work ethic and smarts in his training but he was never going to amount to much in competition because he started with such poor genetics. Second - I think we can all agree that Ben has seen his day and is just talking to placate himself now. Rich, Tia and Mat came in and evolved the sport. Ben did not so now he is little more than a successful affiliate who trains up and coming Games athletes. IF those athletes make it to the Games and show promise, they will jump to Mayhem, PRVN or HWPO. So yeah, Ben is now the minor leagues of CrossFit.
