Honestly I would give everything to have a pack of friends like these guys do. Thats what makes their videos. Bad score does not take anything away from that for me. I enjoyed the week leading up to the event very much. Thank you!

Alreafy bought two Lad Science ‘T’s’ and they’re on their way to me already: I’ll be so proud to wear them on the hill. Anybody reading this, serioysly consider supporting Deaks and Olly this way. For me, the issue with the judges is that they can chat to each other and then re-run a video of a run they have already given points. Imagine if an Olympic floor routine (Byles, say, this summer) was judged in this way. Seriously, just imagine that, or perhaps any World Class sporting event judged on performance by judges (Olympic snowboard/pipe/skate/etc). And this is a great interview, thanks. Deaks, Olly and Bren are amazing sports people and presenters 🎉🎉🎉🎉

The whole event was made so much better by you, Ollie and Bren. Not just for your supporters but for everybody, all the various media outlets and other loggers mentioned you guys. Its not just 3 people on a hill, you all have a lot of history with eath other, there is fun, chemistry, laughs, and you build insane unique free ride lines. No other team can do this. Everybody talks about you 3, and Brens run. He is the bane of Redbull, because every year you guys are the talking point for everybody. I watched every vid, and you guys were brilliant. period. Bren ended up with 55% of the vote and that was more than all the other riders put together, the next nearest was was 26%, you know that, all the people know that, the other riders know that, the judges know that, and so does RedBull. Last year Bren hit 2 features the battleship and the canyon gap that nobody has ever run before and probably never will again. The consequences of falling off, or coming up short would have been death, but they underscored him massively and this year they apologised for it. Can you believe that. That gives you the context.

To be clear. Bf was not the only one to hit battleship. I know that's your reality, but it's not the reality

Deaks is so humble. I've watched him in various vids over the years and initially i thought he was a bit of a dick, but turns out he's one of hardest working, most faithful and genuinely all round top blokes. Every bloke should have a deaks as a mate.

You bring up a solid point, and it's definitely a hot topic in the mountain biking community! The shift in Rampage judging criteria has been a point of contention for many. The roots of freeride lie in line choice, creativity in using the terrain, and riding with style, rather than focusing solely on throwing down a bunch of tricks. But, as you mentioned, the recent judging has leaned more towards rewarding trick-heavy runs, which has changed the essence of the event. Bren's run probably represents that more pure vision of freeride-creative line choice and reading the terrain in a way that not many others do. But if the judges are favoring trick progression, riders like him can end up scoring lower even if they ride impressively in other respects. It's that balance between staying true to your own riding style and adapting to the criteria of the event. The way Swatch 9s highlights progression through tricks and big-air features seems like a possible direction for Rampage. If the event continues down this path, we might end up seeing a more trick-centric version of Rampage, just with the raw and rugged terrain of Utah. What do you think would be the best way for Rampage to balance both elements? Massive respect to Deaks he seems like truly a great person. --- I will say this to Brendon -- funny how he is upset for a bad score....however, let's talk about autistic riders and the ZERO support for us.
@tjpighin
@tjpighin 2 ай бұрын
To be clear, the only shift in judging is your expectations of what a winning run is and what rampage is. The creators of rampage have voiced that in 2015, rampage was finally starting to get where they envisioned it to be. That was well after all the sand bags and builds happened. I feel like the bf fan club is delirious with their expections for rampage and what rampage "is". There are some really great videos based on the history of rampage and it might be good for all the new people to watch. Maybe then it will be more evident on the growth of rampage to what it is now

@@tjpighin Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I understand that the evolution of Rampage and how it’s judged can be a point of contention for many. As you mentioned, the creators saw a shift around 2015 toward the event aligning with their original vision. That context is definitely important for understanding what Rampage represents today, and how it has grown from its earlier days. However, IMO, It’s concerning that, the culture is very dismissive and exclusionary, especially toward those who are passionate about riding but might not fit into the mainstream image. Every rider, regardless of their skill level or background, should feel like they have a place in this sport, and it's disappointing if that isn’t always the case. There’s definitely room for more inclusivity and a more supportive environment within the community. It’s crucial that we don’t lose sight of what makes mountain biking special: the passion, the thrill of the ride, and the connection with others who love it. Thanks again for raising these important points, and I hope we can all work toward a more open and supportive mountain biking community. But I do feel that ollie, Brendon and deaks are part of the problem in mountain biking and push a very limiting adjenda to keep people out more than bring them in. The sad thing was when I caught myself hoping that Brendon crashed so ollie might know understand how wrong it was to laugh that somebody was shot. The sad thing is im autistic and know it was wrong to have that feeling because then I am just like him. if you are a dirt bag of a person 99% of the time but a nice person 1% of the time vs if you are a nice person 99% but mean 1% of the time -- the kicker-- they are the same type of person...a dirt bag. Im better than that

@@Michaelarvin71 yes I agree with you. This sport is supposed to bring joy and be a comunity. The only hate I see is towards one rider in particular and using shameful language like being a "slopestyle rider" and that this is somehow not freeride. That is hate speech and discrimination towards one individual in particular. I could not imagine how he feels and the judges feel after this event and even after all they have done for the sport and innovating the sport. These are legends that are being shamed and attacted by new cancel culture fans. This is the top competition in the world for progressing what is possible on a mountainbike. There are many other forms of inclusivity to reward people like film festivals and such. I think in 2024 that the reality of competition is getting lost. There is only one winner in competition and that is a fact. It takes the most dedication and passion to devote your entire life to pushing boundaries and isolating yourself to accomplish these goals. There is not much reward for this dedication in this soft world we now live in. The ones that put the extra effort in to win should be rewarded as this is what drives the passion and progression.

As a viewer of these kind of sports since its inception, I stopped caring about judging many many years ago , as a viewer watching sitting on the drop sparing a moment to think about the guy or girl waiting to go , who they are , how they got there , or a style you like to see , or a trick you like , watching the run and smiling when they hit there goals I fast forward the scores judges ect and just enjoy the run ,

Brendog has already transcended any fame that a Rampage win would entail. It simply doesn't matter in any way when we still got the gift of watching his run. The crazy wall hugging chute up top was insane to witness. This competition should be treated like modern art. The viewer must find their own interpretation

Fan favorite. Agree and supported them. Also agree with the judges top 3. They should have got top 10. Its not a best trick contest, its not a free ride contest, its not a down hill contest it’s Rampage. I love the evolution of the event and am also getting tired of hearing how they got robbed. Now a guy on instagram bombed his run on a second hand bike. What does that say about the line?

Rampage is dead. Now it's the same perfectly manicured lines with everyone riding within their comfort zone. What was once a big mountain free ride with raw natural lines is now a boring slopestyle event. Hardline has more risk and far more gnar with it's tech. The riders deserve more to showcase their ability than this.
