It's been a while since I listened to this album and at the time I was severely depressed, anxious and lost! I've always turned to music to raise my spirits but only now, listening again now that the cloud has passed over that I am able to fully realise and HEAR what Ben has delivered to us. This album is so beautiful, uplifting, a voice for the voiceless, empowering!! To whoever reads this comment, you are who you've been looking for all this time, self-love is key!! I love you all and YOU ARE WORTHY!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you Ben Howard

Mama Aya just reading it as I'm going through a tough period of my life, with ups and downs, feeling lost etc.. Thank you for your post, it's really uplifting! I turn to music as well when feeling lost and low, there's another song from him, Old Pine, which was so uplifting in these times, fell in love with the song immediately. Now this one. Do you know any other good songs or artists whos music helped you and similiar to these 2 songs, and are uplifting and comforting? thanks anyways!

Im only 16 and I'm sure the majority of you will think he has little life experience, you're not wrong. However, obviously stresses that I experience will be different to the ones you have throughout your life. Music that I've found really helpful and to be honest what I would say has got me through a lot of things, the band called Foals? you may know them. Songs like give it all, London thunder, Spanish Sahara are all ones similar to this in that every lyric you listen to and take note. Theres also Amber run, I'm a little new to them however, their songs called 'I found' and '5AM' are incredible. However, I can always rely on snow patrol, my favourite song being 'open your eyes' I do really hope you see this because I just want to be able to share my music and the bands that I really do love. Foals for me in particular, I put it down to them to me getting through a lot of things, Thankfully they are a Oxford band (I'm from Oxford) and I certainly hope I see some of the members one day just so I can thank them. Much love form Oxford, enjoy the music.

Perhaps British artists are more inclined to refuse conventional wisdom. I do believe the compact size of the land allows small pockets of talented artists to feed off and inspire each other more readily. That has happened with most major musical advances or creations of genres.

I can never get through this without bawling my eyes out. I almost killed myself a little while ago. And I was a suicidal drug addict for many many years. Not too long ago I got sober with ayahuasca and now my feelings are on. Oh boy, are they switched back on. All of them. I can feel joy now and real happiness for the first time in my life. This song reminds me of that shift. I retuned from the brink - a different person. There is love where there was once hate. It feels so good to just be alive now. And to cry is such a release. Huge love too all of you out there.....🙌✨❤️

I spent my time watchin' the spaces that have grown between us. And I cut my mind on second best or the scars that come with the greeness. And I gave my eyes to the boredom, still the seabed wouldn't let me in, And I tried my best to embrace the darkness in which I swim. I'm walkin' back down this mountain With the strength of a turnin' tide Oh the wind's so soft on my skin, The sun so hard upon my side. Oh lookin' out at this happiness, I search for between the sheets. Oh feelin' blind and realize, All I was searchin' for was me. Ooh all I was searchin' for was me. Keep your head up, keep your heart strong. No, no, no, no. Keep your mind set, keep your hair long. Oh my my darlin' keep your head up, keep your heart strong. No no no no, keep your mind set in your ways, keep your heart strong. I saw a friend of mine the other day, And he told me that my eyes were gleamin'. Oh I said I had been away, and he knew, Oh he knew the depths I was meanin'. And it felt so good to see his face, Or the comfort invested in my soul. Oh to feel the warmth of a smile, When he said "I'm happy to have you home. Ooh I'm happy to have you home." Yeah, keep your head up, keep your heart strong. Oh, no, no, no, no. Keep your mind set, keep you hair long. Oh my my darlin', keep your head up, keep you heart strong. No no no no, keep your mind set in your ways, Keep your heart strong. 'Cause I'll always remember you the same. Oh eyes like wild flowers within demons of change. May you find happiness there, May all your hopes all turn out right. Ooh may you find happiness there, May you find warmth in the middle of the night. Yeah, keep your head up, keep your heart strong. Oh, no, no, no, no. Keep your mind set, keep you hair long. Oh my my darlin', keep your head up, keep you heart strong. No no no no, keep your mind set in your ways, Keep your heart strong. 'Cause I'll always remember you the same. I gained so much experience, from almost losing my battle with depression and suicidal thoughts, being overweight and overworked with life. Being a father too. 4 years ago depression hit and I attempted suicide twice. Something grabbed me and made me fight. I've lost so much weight, become emotionally, mentally and physically stronger, have an amazing relationship with my daughter. Although I lost my wife, career, house I've gained so much more. Keep your heart strong we've got this in such a difficult world full of beauty ❤

Its amazing cause what I saw from it was people doing hard work, their faces were not happy or just slightly content, but the work looked like something I wouldn't personally do. But in the end they made something incredible, and when they experienced it they had so much joy because they made it. The song really compliments the music video. Even though your going through struggles for something in the long run, and even if it looks like your not getting close to that goal you just got to keep your head up, keep your heart strong, and keep your mind set. Great music video.

Lyrics: I spent my time watchin' the spaces that have grown between us And I cut my mind on second best or the scars that come with the greenness And I gave my eyes to the bottom, still the seabed wouldn't let me in And I tried my best to embrace the darkness in which I swim I'm walkin' back down this mountain with the strength of a turnin' tide Oh the wind's so soft on my skin, the sun so hard upon my side Oh lookin' out at this happiness, I search for between the sheets Oh feelin' blind and realize, all I was searchin' for was me Oh oh-oh all I was searchin' for was me [Chorus] Keep your head up, keep your heart strong No, no, no, no Keep your mind set, keep your hair long Oh my, my darlin' keep your head up, keep your heart strong No no no no, keep your mind set in your ways, keep your heart strong [Verse 2] I saw a friend of mine the other day, and he told me that my eyes were gleamin' Oh I said I had been away, and he knew, Oh he knew the depths I was meanin' And it felt so good to see his face, all the comfort invested in my soul Oh to feel the warmth of a smile, when he said "I'm happy to have you home Ooh I'm happy to have you home." [Chorus] Keep your head up, keep your heart strong No, no, no, no Keep your mind set, keep your hair long Oh my, my darlin' keep your head up, keep your heart strong No no no no, keep your mind set in your ways, keep your heart strong [Bridge] Cause I'll always remember you the same Oh eyes like wild flowers, Oh with your demons of change [Chorus] Keep your head up, keep your heart strong No, no, no, no Keep your mind set, keep your hair long Oh my, my darlin' keep your head up, keep your heart strong No no no no, keep your mind set in your ways, keep your heart strong [Bridge 2] May you find happiness there May all your hopes all turn out right [Chorus] Keep your head up, keep your heart strong No, no, no, no Keep your mind set, keep your hair long Oh my, my darlin' keep your head up, keep your heart strong No no no no, keep your mind set in your ways, keep your heart strong [Bridge] May you find happiness there May all your hopes all turn out right

Heard it on the radio, little 15minute break they had on a Sunday where they played a few good songs, from all the tripe they put on through the week that's all for women and feminine men, spewed into yours ears constantly, this was a nice break and I felt it was for men for once, keep strong and keep your heart up and fight the pains and weights of society as a man, because yes we are men and we will bury it deep and carry on that's exactly what you should be doing but a little thanks to yourself in your head for what you do for your family goes a long way

What do you think this song is about? I think its about coming back to that place you love with the people you love. Being in a circumstance that you have felt almost lost in that on returning to that place - a pub you and your mates always met in, your home town where you went to school, just being able to see an old friend/friends, - feeling that feeling that you had as a kid with them and all the fun and this giving you the strength to continue in your journey. Anyone else?

I try to process my thoughts as I watch this video, I mostly feel happy and light and grateful, and even playful... and I just pray... that the past doesn't get in the way of my happiness... and that all my stresses don't overwhelm me... that they may all just dissolve into the nothingness from which they came... and... there's a person I want... fuck, I have such a HUGE damn crush on this person!! and I just want them to want me, just as I am. to need me, to love me, to hold me, to desire me, to kiss me, to belong to me... to long for me... I pray for true love.

Hey Ben, if you notice a huge jump in sales of this song or CD, please give a moment of silence. One of the greatest guys in the world, was takin a cab home late one night & his cab got hit by a young drunk driver, killed my dear friend instantly :( This was his fav song & I love it. It's almost like he left us a little gift cause this song is inspirational, with a positive message & the video is so fun!! That describes Jonny perfectly. At 33 this successful & a wonderful human, that the world needs more of. He left us with this to remember him. It's an amazing song & here in this small city of RedDeer Alberta, everyone is playing this song in memory of Jon & cause we love it. He always had great taste in music! Love you Jonny, until we meet again my dear friend

When this came out I was 16 and life was good. This was a pleasantly cheerful, uplifting song. In the years after that, I got into a bad place, and the words of the chorus were a small light in the darkness that kept me going. When that darkness finally passed, the verses got through and formed an intense emotional rollercoaster. It's been years, and I still can't sing along to this song without tearing up while singing: 'I said I'd been away, and he knew the depths I was meaning'. Absolutely incredible song.

My parents have been playing this album for me since it came out, and it was played all the time, whether it was a road trip, to cheer me up and so much more. I showed it to all my friends when I was able to, and decided that the thing I want to do most in my life is make a water slide thing like in the video. Three years ago my childhood friend committed suicide at 16. I wasn't able to say goodbye in the hospital, my family didn't get the message until it was too late. This song reminds me of him and the memories I have of playing with him, his sister, and my brother growing up. I miss him so much, so I listen to this song late at night and it gives me some hope of being happier.

In the first part of the song and video, he is building but he is building alone. And he is lost though he is trying, lost to the extent that he wanders off down a path with a bale, far off the mark. Then, when he says that he saw a friend of his the other day, the songs shifts to optimism as he builds with the help of others, reaping the fruits of communal labour. Howard is saying that you can't recover alone; you need a community. And it is that community who sees his "eyes were gleamin'," as if to say that you need others in order to recognize the depths in yourself. In the end, he recalls his old self -- "I'll always remember you the same / ... with your demons of change" -- now that he has changed, he has recovered, and the joy he has worked for is fragile, true, but his, genuinely his.
