He's young and raw and struggling with adapting to the level of professionalism where you have to continuously work to get better b/c everyone in the league is good. Yo, we actually have seen this before: VC in Toronto. All-NBA player with several years still left on his contract decides he doesn't want to play for his team anymore to force a trade. I bet it plays out similarly with Simmons: doing what he has to do to get his salary but giving no effort, refusing to shoot (Carter refused to dunk), making up injury excuses, just making himself as useless as he can until the team caves and trades him.

Like, he lead the league in VORP in '01 but he didn't make the top 10 again until he was traded to the Nets in '04. He started that season off with 16pts/3reb/3ast on 41/32/69 shooting then put up 28/6/5 on 46/43/82 after the trade. Even if Simmons can't produce offensively at that level, they're still both max contract all-stars pretty fresh off their rookie extensions who are just quitting on their teams, and I bet if the Sixers try to hold onto Simmons he's gonna tank his game the same way, because it sounds like he's already completely given up

For me, I think they could get Beal. Ton of picks, make it a 3 team deal, give them whatever it takes. Easily makes them better, and gives them the 3rd scorer they've needed for while.

Only point guard I can think of that can’t shoot that anybody would want at least a little is Russell Westbrook, he at least can do things a lot of people can’t and he’s a future hall of famer and was a league mvp and holds records for triple doubles. I only see Simmons as a role player, good defender and athleticism and a good passer but he doesn’t have that IT factor. He’s not the guy that will get a team over the hump

It's because of his lack of value, that this move makes sense. Philly have made it clear that they don't want him, but their trade demands are ridiculous. By holding out, he's dropping what 76ers can ask for, which might be what is needed to facilitate a move.

I've been saying it for years. 1. You should not be able to trade Bird rights 2. If you get a contract using your Bird rights, if you get traded, you lose the difference. The whole point of Bird Rights is to keep players where they were drafted. If you can just sign and trade and still get the player his money... why would the player EVER stay with a franchise? Defeats the entire purpose.

The only way Simmons gets move and the 76ers get a great return is if the Raptors decide that they are a better team to build for the future and realize the their current core isn’t going to win them another championship. Personally having a 3-team trade between the 76ers, Spurs and Raptors would be ideal. Spurs get Simmons (without giving up Murray or Johnson), 76ers get VanVleet and maybe Anunoby, and the Raptors get a ton of young players like Maxey, Vassel, Samanic, and a ton a players. Nah the NBA is definitely going to add a "Ben Simmons" rule to contracts for young players (I don't know what that rule would be?). Plus Ben has shown he can't take criticism and that's not something you can have on a championship contending team.
