Ryan, you mean the NBA-ABA merger, right? The NBL and the BAA merged in 1949. Not sure if you knew about the latter. The NBA retroactively lists its first game being played in 1946. Of course, I'm sure you're aware that blocks and steals weren't even officially kept as statistics until the 1973-74 season.
