to be descriptive , a 25u can find their self at the front of an invasion with an engineer xo whos job is to create a route for a combat team. so your land nav best be on point.. or one can be in the rear with the gear working command center stuff.. it can be dangerous and this job isnt for everyone as it does require tact and field expedience when times are hard and supplies are low so think hard before committing as it is a lifestyle.

@@osvaldocuellar2006 I ended up going 25N, I got to my Duty Station on Dec. Holiday Block Leave happen I've barely touch any equipment yet. Life in the army, so far so good. Basic at first sucks but the you kinda miss it. Ait since 25N its 6 month training its a grind but it a rewarding experience at the end. Once you get to your Duty everything gets much better.

Also, the CompTIA A+ (Basic computers coure) and the CET Associate exams (general electronics) are great baseline classes you can do ahead before entering Basic and AIT. By the way, if you are on Active Duty, these courses are college credits (promotion points) and great for after military service job oppotunities.

To anyone asking anything about other 25 series MOS's AITs they are all pretty much the same. I am at week 10 of AIT here at Ft. Gordon as a 25U. AIT is 20+ weeks long, they have been adding and taking away classes so the actual timeline is subject to change. Don't expect that you can let down your military discipline that you gain from BCT. You still have drill seargants and you are expected to act accordingly. What does change is that you do have some more freedoms. You will be able to order food after a while and eventually be able to go off post on the weekends. School is easy. You will meet people that say otherwise but those people don't pay attention or don't stay awake. As long as you do your job and maintain your military discipline AIT will be a breeze.

When i went there (2012) we didn't have DS. Which is one of the reasons soldiers kept getting in trouble, and turned into shitbags coming out of BCT. I'm glad they put DS back.

So when i chose this MOS, i thought I'd be fixing computers and stuff, not the case. It all depends in what unit you get stationed to. I was posted to a mechanized infantry unit. My typical day was in the company office or in my communications storage room. I'd fix minor computer problems if they arise, but as far as doing network stuff and actually troubleshooting computers, don't have your hopes up. The Army's computers are so secure , only people with permissions (civilians) actually can troubleshoot them. And broken equipment, you don't open up and fix. That's sent off to be fixed, since equipment is usually on warranty. In the field, i set up antennas, config radios to vehicles, and made sure everything communications wise was up and running. If you want to go signal, I'd strongly urge you to get a more practical signal MOS like 25B or even better cyber security (which is the craze right now!). Or if you go with this MOS, get an I.T. certification BEFORE you get out! Or any signal MOS for that matter. I couldn't do jack with this MOS in the civilian world, it's too broad.

25s works on bigger stuff. Im going july 20th as 25s to basic. 25s needs a higer asvab score. Youll be working stratigc or tactical or 1c...only the best becomes 1c. Tatcial is on field getting communications and internet to the soldiers. Strategic is more confidential and 1c is even more confidential. Lets say using satellites to jam the enemy is part of what we do in the strategic side. Lots of education. In 25s plus 25s is the mos that cross trains all of the mos's because its the highest scored mos in signal. You want a thorough complex training that will set you up for success and you scored the now lowered score was 117 eletronics now 114 do 25s!! See you in the army

Try and get something that's actually useful! Do your homework on MOS's and see what's their potential for employment when u get out, especially if you wanna go federal employment. go to usajobs.gov (which a federal employment website) and search your current city or area u live and see what they're hiring for. Strong MOS's for employment are usually Supply technician, Aviation Maintenance, Cyber security, etc. Don't go into a recruiters office not having any idea what you're getting into. And don't let recruiters push u around and rush u into a job u don'y want, cause in the end you're signing the line.

Hello, I am looking at reserve units in my area and I really would like the 25B. My recruiter and I looked and could not find any open spots, not any in my state. I have my heart set on 25B, but there is an open 25U that's extremely close. I am studying coding in my free time and computers are what I want my career to be in. I was hoping to get a 25B position so I could obtain certifications. I wanted to know what certifications that the 25U would obtain. I have researched and can't find any. I don't want to spend my off time studying the certifications that a 25B would get in the classroom. I wanted to spend that time learning to code. Is there any advice that you all could give me? Background* Brother was deployed to Afghanistan and my other brother is also in the military as well as my father. I have a strong desire to be a part of the military. I have a bachelors degree. I want to make sure that I don't make a hasty decision. Do you all think I should wait and hope that a spot will open close to me? All your input is greatly appreciated.

You don’t need to get any certifications for this MOS, but it helps open doors into better positions/promotions. But for 25B, it’s pretty crucial to atleast getting Sec+ or network+.

If you're going for 25B, you're going to be expected to atleast try for Sec+, it's not mandatory for the job, but it'll help you get to positions not available without that certification. My knowledge is from my time doing my job, and having to be the back up 25B for when ours was away due to additional training. Also, I'd be very surprised if someone got Sec+ with no prior IT Experience.

Almost everyone going in the Army gets a secret clearance. You can get a TS clearance in this MOS, but you have to go into a much broader process, and you'll have to have a reason to apply for one.
