Benavidez vs Gavril 2 FULL FIGHT: February 17, 2018 - PBC on Showtime

(February 17, 2018) Boxing's youngest world champion, David Benavidez, left no questions in a rematch with Ronald Gavril, defending his WBC Super Middleweight World Championship with a dominating 12-round unanimous decision in Saturday's co-feature on SHOWTIME.
The 21-year-old Benavidez and Gavril had fought to a close split-decision in one of 2017's best fights that saw Benavidez drop to the canvas in the final minute of the 12th and final round. The Phoenix native had no trouble in the immediate rematch, utilizing a stiff jab and a steady diet of combo shots to win a near-shutout over the game Gavril.
Benavidez (20-0, 17 KOs) wore down Gavril with an intelligent body attack, pounding the midsection to open up power shots and jabs to the head. Benavidez had his best round in the fourth, connecting on a huge right uppercut that nearly floored Gavril - who appeared to be saved by the ropes - and then pounced with a series of damaging combo shots.
Benavidez appeared to hurt his right hand in the second half of the fight and stepped off the gas in the 10th, 11th and 12th. But Benavidez, who connected on 41 percent of his power shots, still landed the harder shots and utilized a stiff left jab to keep Gavril largely at bay.
"I knew he was going to come aggressive. He's a one-trick opponent," Benavidez said. "I knew I could jab and box him all day. When I saw the opening I took it. I didn't knock him out though - he's a tough son of a gun.
"Both my hands hurt but I have that warrior's mentality so I kept pushing.
"I want to be the best in division. So whoever they put in front of me that's what I want to do."
Gavril (18-3, 14 KOs) didn't make any excuses for dropping what was an action-packed affair that was scored 119-109 and 120-108 twice.
"He tried to box me on the outside," Gavril said. "It was good fight. He was the better man tonight. What can I say? I want to go back in the gym and come back stronger."

@@Marcos-fe1sr I never said he lost any rounds. I did see Benavidez struggle with a guy who is nowhere near Canelo's level, power, or boxing IQ. A literal tomato can who shouldn't have survived 4 rounds. If the same Tomato can were fighting Canelo, he would have been sparked out in 2 rounds or less. Based solely on how quickly Canelo would have destroyed this guy, and how long Benavidez scratched and sniffed for a win against an extremely underwhelming opponent...it stands to reason Canelo beats Benavidez. That being said, I would root for Benavidez because he is an American, but Canelo would probably win that fight

This was a great fight. Had David winning every round except the 11th and 12th. The only reason he lost those two rounds was because there was something wrong with David's right hand. He threw the right hand about 4 times in those last two rounds. Why the announcers failed to mention it is a surprise to me because it was obvious to see. This was definitely a decisive win for David so he should very proud of himself. In the 1st fight i criticized David for poor footwork, which was the reason why he got knocked down but, in this fight his balance was much better. Congrats David...stay hungry!

Benavidez hurt his right hand at some point. He wasn't using it much in the 5th round, by the 6th it became a different fight. I thought he was taking the 6th round off, but he was using his right hand less in every successive round. He didn't use it at all in the last 2 rounds.

@@chilltheboss1959 nah...canelo can't deal a workrate guy and someone who tags his body all night. He got stamina issues. He just been fighting nobodies and showing great movement against them. Benavidez will mow him down and hit him when canelo starts to counter and initiates offense. Benavidez is good at that...his combinations are faster and hard to see. Canelo hasn't dealt with such fast hands since Mayweather. If GGG and Sergay Kov can jab him all night, David will havea field day.

David has to work on his retraction speed he gets caught clean because he takes so Long to bring his guard back up . If Gavrill had any power he could of spun his chin around his shoulder from just throwing hooks when he stands in stands in range over extended when he throws. Not to take anything away from David he’s an outstanding boxer n has some of the best snap on his shots in the game right now , throws his hands like slingshots , n he doesn’t employ any wasted movement , not just feinting for the sake of fainting like a lot of fighters because they only understand how to feint they don’t understand why they are feinting tho and how to set up traps off of didn’t reads they can make off of tells in the early rounds .

We haven’t seen David really hurt and how he will respond but canelo hasn’t impressed me in his last 3 fights. He has become very predictable and relying too much on his power. With that being said it will be an interesting fight. David has youth and hunger on his side plus he can punch and we know canelo stays honest when his opponent shows power.
