Were you talking about the metal wearing off the spring mechanism or mettle wearing off in between the g10 scales and the knife blade?

I noticed today that KnifeCenter raised their prices on all their Benchmade knives. I was thinking about buying a 273 to complete my collection, despite it's lockup problems. Corporations are using the inflation excuse to gouge their customers. They can keep it.

Good video. The only folder that I would trust to baton with is one of Cold Steel triad locks like you mentioned. In the past I broke a spring on a Benchmade axis lock. It was deployed thousands of times. In my experience, Benchmade has excellent customer service. Keep up the good work.

Interesting theory about the 273 having weaker springs, I wonder if it could be tested by switching springs with the other knife? That would be a ton of work, so I'm certainly not expecting you to :)

Is it possible that this problem only happens with the od and tan variant Adamas? I’ve only seen the od and tan version fail and I am yet to see the black and tungsten variant fail. Great video

General rules for using folding knives: 1) Don't hit the spine on hard objects. 2) Don't try to replace the axe with a knife. 3) Regularly clean the knife (especially Axis). I've been using a full-size Adamas for about ten years hiking and have never had a problem with the lock. I completely trust Axis.

That’s because you have an original Adamas. I too had one and it was stronger than the modern Adamas. Please note there are a wide number of differences between the Cruwear and D2 Adamas variants.

@@AlaskanFrontier1Contrary to popular belief, I don't consider disengage the lock to be a problem. I think the Benchmade engineers deliberately loosened the lock so that shock loads on the spine would not cause damage to the liners (this is what happened with the first generation Adamas). The lock does not fail under static loads. It will not fail even with accidental blows to the spine. Refusal is caused precisely by strong, intentional blows, which indicate the misuse of a knife (batoning). This is elementary foolproofing. Benchmade obviously didn't want another "survivor" in the woods to send them bent liners every weekend asking them to replace them. Most people simply enjoy owning an Adamas without putting it under unreasonable stress. Therefore, they have no problem with the knife. Problems arise for bushcrafting enthusiasts who are smart enough to batoning with a folding knife without disengage the lock. I think they deserve cut fingers in this case. Just buy a damn axe and stop doing stupid things with a knife.

@@neongirlI like the Adamas for the bread slicing and box cutting capabilities that it's built for. But the Adamas is definitely not a "Hard use Tactical folder" like benchmade claims it is.

I think Benchmade is putting new Omega springs with less pressure so they don’t break as easy as ones with more pressure.

Can’t you just put a stronger spring in it?
@helterskelter156
@helterskelter156 Жыл бұрын
Nothing to do with the springs. I’ve investigated this matter thoroughly, and have come up with the most reasonable conclusion and even a fix. The Cerakote treatment requires a special method of application. If you look at the exposed blade tang, you’ll see that where the lock engages the tang area, there’s a bronze sheen to it. This is part of application / curing process of the Cerakote finish to the blade. It reduces the friction coefficient between the lockbar and the tang of the blade. I took a small piece of sandpaper, and polished the area, completely. Now, not only does the bar engage about a millimeter farther, but it also doesn’t slip whatsoever. It is a very robust lock - even though not as strong as the TriAd. Try this fix out, and enjoy the knife..!

Probably, these people are too lazy to take a small axe with them. After all, this will increase the weight of their equipment by as much as 100 oz! Most likely, they simply didn't encounter broken blades even on fixed knives.
