Sold both my bailouts new after your first test, Benchmade dropped the ball.
@hobochris29368 ай бұрын
I bought a new 3v bailout about a month ago and it seems to be holding it pretty well. I use it mainly to break down boxes and scrap stickers, no warp and ive only had to use a strop on it.

Ugh, why go to all that trouble?? Just get a Bugout. The tanto blade is the reason for one, although I would go for the M4 upgrade.
@tacticalcenter86582 жыл бұрын
Its possible this one was one of the bad ones in every batch. The warp makes me think that. Maybe Stack metallurgy is having a hard time heat treating these in quantities. Maybe benchmade is back to melting edges when sharpening again.

How does Spydercos 3V do? My TUFF seems to hold up quite well.

The worst warped blade I've ever received from Benchmade the m4 bailout I received was close but not as bad as this one. Benchmade really needs step the CQI up seems like they are getting worse not better.

So I’ve been looking at the benchmade puukko or Leuku in 3v as a backpacking knife. Should I expect the same shoddy performance from these knives? I was turned to these knives for their light weight and 3v steel.
@janjimpson2402 жыл бұрын
I'm also curious about this. Would love to see a future video testing the puukko or leuku
@BenoJ30002 жыл бұрын
I have a puukko available if wanted or needed for testing. First run. I can say that I was disappointed when I got it due to the grind and I have tried to use a fire steel on it and it deformed the spine noticably, unlike the garberg I have used many times. From what I understand the steel is soft on the first run puukkos. I got it so I could give it a good work over and still have some good edge retention. I would have sold it but I got it laser engraved. This was my first "mythical" Benchmade. I like the 945 I have but idk if I'll be buying Benchmade again. Kind of soured me.
@BenoJ30002 жыл бұрын
I can say that it will be mighty tough lol. If you get one over the other it should be the leuku. The puukko isn't worth it in 3v at that size if it is soft.
@Outpost_762 жыл бұрын
I'll see what I can do to get one to test. I'm sure they run the same protocol for those as the Bailout last I knew.
@BenoJ30002 жыл бұрын
Gerald, I think they switched the bailout to m4 because of the 3v debacle. Idk anything about heat treats but I believe 3v is difficult to heat treat effectively, as far as high volume production knives. Maybe some one else with more knowledge can chime in. I have a kizer mini critical in 3v that had major edge damage in use, even after sharpening the original factory edge. Fairly significant chips/rolls. I believe it's a bit soft
@Outpost_762 жыл бұрын
There is a good chance your Kizer is run soft. I have one in 10V I'm in the process of testing.

Gerald, it isn't clear to me if the blade warping was from the factory or subsequent to the regrind? In either case its unacceptable! I for one am less than impressed with BM's steel treatment especially given their price!
@Outpost_762 жыл бұрын
I'm going to say it's a BM issue. A new unmodified M4 Bailout I was shown also has a warped blade.

@@Outpost_76 that's appaling given their price point!
@-trmxzer0-2352 жыл бұрын
My m4 bailout is warped the same way just not as badly I say it's likely an issue with Benchmades CQI not doing there jobs effectively enough.

@dark_gravity_edc2 жыл бұрын
You answered my question in another comment. How in Zeus's butthole could the release a warped blade? I'd guess, may be wrong, that BM overheated the blade during grinding. That could warp and destroy the heat treat. Thanks cuz I was wanting an improved/ new version. Not now.
@Outpost_762 жыл бұрын
I'd say they do pre ht grinding and that's what caused the warp. Especially since I've seen some others that way even in M4 Bailout.
@michaell3972 жыл бұрын
@@Outpost_76 In truth, over heating in grinding does not warp a blade. In fact, it anneals it which in some cases would straighten it. For those that don't know V-3 is designed for toughness, Not edge retention. The M-4 is for edge retention. Different steels for different purposes. KnifeMaker
