I totally agree with you review about the D2 ! And true that the blade shine of the BM 51 is very aesthetic. I just bought it few time ago and this bali is great !!

hey calvin. i wanna know. Im getting this knife soon, and theres a posibility of it dropping quite alot with a few new aerials im gonna try with it. Will the G-10 be able to hold the knife up?

I agree with you there SmartFool24, There is something I think about how the 51 is shaped that makes rollovers a bit harder. And Yeah I have to get used to it too. Your definatley right in saying that its sharp, Ive already cut myself pretty bad on my knee I was twirling it, I dropped it and it landed Directly on my knee, so anyways once again thanks for the comment!!

@Roziale You can rely on having very high quality balisongs when you buy a benchmade. I have had no problems with my 51 because of its construction, All you have to do is loctite it once and your set.

Hey Calvin should I worry if the handles are a little bit loose? I've had my 51 for only a couple of days and I did not notice this untill yesterday after long time spent on "flipping".

I'm buying my first Benchmade Practice knife, but you can get them with a hole going all the way through the handle and some that has metal on the inside. So what is the pros and cons, and which should i go for?

Yeah I would say so. If the 42 was still out I would suggest just to get that but the 51 is a great flipper. It just looks the same.

Very in depth review. Good job man. I still have an easier time flipping my 42, but I've been trying to use my 51 more to get used to it. For some reason, simple rollovers seem a lot different with the 51 from the 42. Anyways, I still really like the 51 and am already thinking about getting another if I cant find another 42 :( Also, that blade is crazy sharp. Second sharpest knife I've ever had right after caly 3 with ZDP-189.

I do not own the BM32 and i just ordered a BM51. i asked around and most people say the BM51 because it is longer, thus making for easier manipulation, if you're a flipper. they also said the BM32 for everyday practical use because it's just smaller and easier to carry.

Hi, i bought a butterfly knife as year ago for about $30. It was great for about 3 months until the pin broke. I'm wondering if a $215 knife is going to break like that too? I will be flipping it constantly every day. How long do these last? How durable are they?

@timesplitingking Yeah I noticed that. I hope he comes back. Anyway. The 51 often does come with the symbol in the wrong general area. It is a production error. I have seen a few cases like that. Just contact benchmade, they should replace it for free.

@cbass5511 since the 42 has been discontinued its almost impossible to find one for sale, i dont know of any stores that sell them so im not really a help to you, but the best places you will be able to find are forums, it will be hard to get one though even if youu see one beause alot of people are in the same boat you are, so check some knife forums.

Awesome review! Totally made up my mind about getting a BM51 or not. A good and clean video with lots of good shots of the knives. One thing you could improve is that you are saying um a little to often and try to talk more. Well anyways gj

@CalviNNation I'm still kind of scared of spending 200 on a knife. When you use the locking mechanism do you ever notice any weakness in it after closing and opening it? It looks like it may serve problematic to me since i will be carrying the knife everywhere i go and it will have to be closed to prevent it from cutting through my pants.

The paper cutting test doesnt show much unless you look very very closely at how cleanly it cut it. I can do the same thing with a dull knife. The Benchmades come out of the box sharp, but not super sharp, they can be sharpened to super sharp.

Also I asked about it being legal in California, I'm not sure if you thought I meant to carry because I don't want to carry them conecealed, just flip around at home. Also I purchased an airgun recently and I think am allowed to shoot it in my backyard because they shipped it to CA. So do you think it's illegal in CA just to flip around at home? And will they send it to CA if it isn't?

i feel like the clip would get in the way on the 51, can you take it off easily, or does it hinder flipping in anyway. not the locking mechanism the actually clip think to clip it on to your pocket or whatever.

i use a kimura 3 with an o ring on the latch. IDK why, but i prefer the weight to be a little bit heavier. I still love the 51, i just prefer the kimura 3 more.

Hey everyone I got my 51 a few months ago and love it!! But I've heard people saying that you can ship the part thats blue and get a different color and I had a few questions on it 1st would it look the same beside the color and 2 where could I ship it to that would do that ?

It's called getting it anodized. I would recommend guys like TiSurvival if you want to get your liners ano'd. You'd have to pay more if you wanted to keep your liners jeweled, but it isn't difficult to get them reanodized.

Okay so this is my balisong history, I got a shitty 7 ounce trainer and flipped it until it broke. Then a not as shitty 6 ounce live blade, a TERRIBLE bottle opener. A cheap 5 ounce live blade, and now I have that, a bbbarfly and a bear ops b200. I don't mind the weight of the bbbarfly at all, so I think the 51 might be too light for me seeing as my lightest knife is around 4.8 ounces. Should I get the 51? Kimura? Or another bear ops? Because I know a lot of people hate them but I don't mind em.

I just got a 51, it has a lot more play on the handles than I would have thought. Not much better than my cheapo bear n sons 25 dollar balisong. I tried tightening the screws a bit, but even just a little turn tighter made it not flip well. Arms were not swinging freely. Mine also came out of the box with missing bits of the blue anodizing on the liners. Kind of dissapointed with it. I should have just saved up and got the 62

Max Savino There's supposed to be play in the handles, otherwise it doesn't flip right. The "missing bits" of the liners are the same on all of them, it has to do with the internal mechanism of the spring latch. I have the 42, 41, 43, 62, and 63, but the 51 is my favorite.
