Benchmade 810 Contego - Good 2 Go!

Nice review. Benchmade is known for excellent steel, smooth blade action, and a very reliable locking mechanism. The deep finger grove, distinctive jimping, and longer blade is a plus for me too. It is my next EDC pocket knife. Already have Benchmade, but I want the longer blade.

Ordered one yesterday. Love the larger blades. The zt452cf is my most expensive knife to date in my small collection and it's a great knife. I've also got a SOG tomcat 3.0 and a WE 701f coming as well. Once I had all the guns I'll ever need I started getting into knives and it's an addiction for sure. I've got a clone of the pelican 1450 case, my goal is to fill it up. At age 60 I don't know if I'll live long enough to do it, lol. Been collecting about a year and with the new ones coming I'll have 15 knives so a long way to go. I'm not a hard user at all, I really don't have a daily need for a knife. When I need to cut open boxes or clamshell packaging I use my little gerber dime. My knives are all basically case queens but I do carry a knife on me every day. I can't bring myself to use $100+ knives for simple tasks so I usually carry a $20 ganzo as a beater, sometimes I'll go with my RAT 1 in D2 steel and carbon fiber overlay. I know they are tools but I look at them more as mechanical art.

Disassembled this knife, cleaned and oiled, adjusted the pivot and now it's drop shut smooth. It's a pain to reassemble but worth it to be able to pull down on the axis lock studs and the blade just falls shut. No wrist action reauired.

That 0454 is sweet . The Apostle P , in his review of the Contego . makes note of the hot spots that make the Contego a poor choice for EDC . He modified his to eliminate them . 2 good reviews .

Custom Edge Works I just watched the Late Boy scouts Review of the 808 Loco . It has the same reverse tanto blade and no hot spots . He likes it a lot and he prefers smaller , lighter , more pocket friendly blades (as do i) .

Yup, the 808 is a better EDC, not as good of a tactical blade, which the Contego excels in.

Custom Edge Works I once read that the best knife for self defence , is the one that's in your pocket every day , It makes sense . Given that , I totally agree with you . When my knife shop gets them in I'll have to get them both in hand .

I've heard/read that as well and agree. Same goes for anything though. The loco looks like a decent knife for EDC. A bit chunky for my taste, but it would work. The point of my video was to clarify that the Contego should not be compared to other EDC knives, because it is not an EDC knife. It's a tactical/utility/heavy-use blade. Something I would prefer to use for tasks where gloves are appropriate.

dude anyone that owns a Benchmade do not pay for pocket clips please all you have to do is call Benchmade customer service and they will give you any pocket clip for free shipped out to you for free with the screws and everything

Holy fuck, you need to grind off the edges on this handle, otherwise you will hurt your hand if you actually use the knife There is a tiny amount of blade play, not sure why, can hear a clicking noise when grabbing and moving the blade in locked position. Also the knife shop sent me the wrong model, i ordered the black one and got the stupid gray coated one.
