I've got two 535s...I don't mind the 537, not a tanto fan so I won't get one. The bugouts damn near perfect for EDC. They should have just started making more varients of it or added it to their custom shop instead of whatever the bailout is trying to do. Budget bugout in D2, mid range S30V, and then add a M390/20CV blade and different handle materials. They would sell like hot cakes all over again!
@BlueCollarSurvival

that's exactly what it is they're going to run with a bigger version of the bug out basically with more expensive steel and a higher price tag. when they could just make a larger version of the bug out with different blade options and they would still make tons of money with less of a markup and price. Hi. I'm not a benchmade owner, way above my price range. So i can't compare or comment about the quality. I will say this. I really like the look of the tanto blade style, from japanese traditionals to modern modified tantos. However, i do not own any because i have yet to find a use in an edc situation. I can see their tactical value but not in edc. I am always willing to learn of course. Good health and stay safe.

But is there a long time edc review if that really results in that bad edge retention? I mean i wouldnt buy that knife for hard use but i least expect that i can break Down boxes at the shop a day without resharpening it. Till now it sounds like a aus 8 or something:D. Just ask because i really like the looks of it.

It does have a really appealing look I know but no honesty with the HRC the way it is for everyday carry such as breaking down boxes and stuff like that it's probably comparable to 8Cr13MoV. Don't know why Benchmade just didn't stick with the s30v on this one. Thanks brother

and the bad thing is their marketing is playing it like it's some kind of hard use tactical military knife. unfortunately a lot of people will eat into that marketing ploys and I guess if you fall for it then it's your fault that you waste your money. I like this knife as a Bugout alternative, but I am not really a huge Bugout fan anyways, I prefer the Griptilian. 3V was a strange choice for BM, especially since, as you noted, there us no f'ing way you can truly abuse this knife and not break a scale 2 seconds in. 3V for a fixed blade, like where you might use 1095? Ok. Would it have been better to do a Bugout, Mini-Bugout, like all of there other series...probably.
@BlueCollarSurvival
@BlueCollarSurvival 5 жыл бұрын
absolutely, if they made variations of the bug out they would be huge sellers. and I see where they were going with this knife but just don't understand some of the material choices. here in Canada i can buy a cold steel recon folder with a 4 inch blade for 60 bucks less than that with g10 instead of plastic a solid lock that will wear forever and a much better build and being that fidget factor is not a consideration for me why in the world would i even buy a benchmade at all ? Atomedge_Sharpening here. This knife is kind of a cash grab. Sure they put thought into...the MARKETING. They rested assured fanboys of steel names would buy the knife and rested on the old adage of steels like 5160 (Harder is more prone to break, softer is toughness) which is the most general thing even the most ignorant person who plays with knives "knows". Unfortunately it's 2019 and higher alloy steels and really...even basic steels are coming out showing they can be plenty strong, plenty tough at high hardness... We're learning it just takes more care, time, effort... money. It cuts into their profits. Their excuse for hardening the steel to 56-57 with an admitted variance of 1HRC being standard protocol in their QC is a slap in the face to people who are smart enough to look up the CPM 3v datasheets the manufacturers supply freely online recommending the hardness be 60-62 for it's optimal properties to shine. None of this mentions the HRC was measured at the pivot area... They still had to go through a grinding process so the edge could be even softer. I wouldn't be surprised if knife companies tried to lie outright about how toughness and hardness actually work in response to this.
@BlueCollarSurvival

You've nailed it on the head. It's sad that people still eat into these companies marketing schemes. The testing and spreadsheet David and others are putting together is really starting to catch people's eyes and for good reason. I'm hoping with a lot of us exposing these companies flaws that the companies will step up. Wishful thinking likely but here's to thinking positive🍻 Thanks brother!
