Been carrying and using mine for about 5 years. The aggressive grip was my first attraction. When I first took it out of the box and started playing with it, cut myself 3 times without realizing it. Sharp as a razor. Love this bad boy.

I have the knifeworks contego..m390..blue and black g10. Great knife. I disassembled it, cleaned it and oiled, adjusted the pivot and now the blade completely drops shut without any wrist flick at all.

Love the Contego! The aggressive scales and traction make this blade. Have had decent luck with edge retention and whatever coating is on the blade is holding up. Would recommend this knife any day.

It had been on my wish list since its release and thanks to an awesome brother received one last Christmas. After several months of edcing I have really enjoyed it. The pivot screw needed a bit of loctite and adjusting but other than that I've had great service out of the m4 and have done a good amount of thumping on it. If you are using gloves a lot at work and edc this the traction plan is ideal, if not some 5-600 grit sand paper will take care of those edges. I've got large size hands and haven't had ergo issues. Great little review crocket
@Cr0cket209 жыл бұрын
kuneefay Now that you mention it I think I had to slightly adjust the pivot on mine as well. If so it was no big deal. Thanks for watching.

Great video review ! I've had mine since they were first released, I'm glad I bought it. It's a real workhorse! Having this knife lead me to other Benchmade M4 knives. I think they do the heat treat right with this steel. Thanks for testing this blade, it confirms my opinion.

I bought this knife a day or so after my first comment on this video and have been using the hell out of it at home and when I'm out backpacking/ hiking in the hills. I didn't want to wait to get the black blade so settled for the plain coated and I know what you're talking about where it looks like the blade has hardly any use! I'm really thinking about getting the fixed version now. About the Ergo's, I just hit the edges with a medium grit sanding sponge and they're fine, but then again I have Manly Firefighter Hands (hehe).

I own this knife with the grey colored blade which actually is coated but appears to look like uncoated steel. I LOVE IT! It is a bigger knife but for the size i think it's fairly light and easy to carry. The grip amd traction is awesome. You're not going to slip on this knife. The ergos to me are good. The sharp edges only seem to bother me when it's in my pocket and i have to reach past it to grab my keys or something out of my pocket, in that case it's rough on the hand. The biggest and best thing with this knife is i actually feel like i could seriously defend myself with it. And even intimidate someone who might be threatening. It's large enough and looks bad enough to do that probably. Anyways thought I'd share my thoughts.
@Cr0cket209 жыл бұрын
bryan edman Thanks for the thoughts. When I get around to it will eventually knock down the edges of the handle scales. Not too bad though or I guess would have done it a long time ago.
@joerossa11129 жыл бұрын
Crocket, your review is spot on! I own this knife and I would say that I agree with you in every respect. I love the steel. It holds an edge great. I do feel like people knock on it a little too hard for the ergos. I didnt think I would like the knife at first and ended up falling in love with it.

Crocket, you're one of the few reviewers that can make me want a Benchmade folder. Even with the negatives in ergos that you mention. Maybe it was the footage of the windshields?

The windshield was fun. I had my kids with me too and let them have a couple whacks at it.

Now thats a good Dad. The family the extricates together stays together! I was a firefighter/EMT most of my adult life and laminated windshields are great learning materials since the glass doesn't shatter/fly like the tempered glass. Occasionally we'd bust out the hacksaw instead of the sawzall and take a top off. hacksaws buzz right through front windshields.

I do the same by gripping both sides of the axis lock to enhance and disengage. I don't know why but to me it seems like it will last longer doing it like that. When using only on side seems like it will stress the parts and cause it to wear faster whether it's one side of the omega springs and/or cause play on the axis lock bar.

If you had to chose one, would you get the rift or contego, I personally couldn't justify getting both. Basically is the M4 alot better that the 154cm because I know the blade isn't too much bigger than the 950 and the price difference is only $10-$20 :)
@danielheller96249 жыл бұрын

M4 holds a better edge for quite a bit longer than 154cm in my experience. And takes a super sharp edge too, maybe even a bit better than 154. Either knife you're going to like but M4 is a more capable steel i think.

CampfireTalk LOL I had to check to make sure (which reminds me there was an editing mistake in this one, when I was showing how well the knife cut through the phonebook paper, there was a vid clip over the top that wasnt supposed to be there). Awesome review! It's a great knife I am like you I really like the aggressive g10. I think a lot of people forget what it's intended use is for and complain about it being to aggressive for traction on the hand's. I love the m4 steel it takes a wicked edge and it's tough enough to hold that edge for a good while and won't chip like some of the other high end steel's. Also if some people are concerned about rust knifeworks makes an m390 version of the contego which has smoking corrosion resistance to rust compared to m4.
