That’s Jim Thiebaud? That’s so funny he made you a graphic. You’re living my childhood dream. I hung in the DLX store on Market a lot from like 94-98. I was really into Real, and I took the Real oval logo around the time they put it in the coffee cup for a graphic and sent in a collage I made from a Penthouse with the oval logo where she was spreading it, and Jim sent me back a letter and a graphic he made for me and some stickers or something…I still have that letter saved from Jim somewhere. I think it was sign Jim and Tommy. I must’ve been maybe 14 or 15.

Loved this Ben! I think it's great to see someone putting the manufacturing side of skateboarding in the spotlight. All skaters I talk to seem to have there favourite skate brands but when I talk wood shops with them, they are not so informed. For me, when I'm buying a new board my first priority is where the board was manufactured, then the brand preference comes next. I've found that board quality and longevity can be quite varied depending on which wood shop manufactured it and in my opinion, BBS is the best mass producer when it comes to quality. I have some other smaller wood shop favourites like Pennswood for example and I also have some wood shops that I avoid like the plague!
@TheRealWarez9 ай бұрын
Welcome to the minority... I have seen the interest/knowledge about wood shops grow in the past 10 years or so. Hopefully it continues. Believe me when I say, 10 years ago it was abysmal. It has also become more difficult to keep up with which brand uses which shop now, as it's not like it was then when you could simply know Plan B uses PS Stix (they don't anymore :( )... they might for some decks, Penn for some, and some unknown Chinese shop for others. All within a 4 month period... hell, a couple years ago I saw Element use 3 different shops within the same deck SERIES.
@benj61079 ай бұрын
@@TheRealWarez 100%! Just out of interest, where are you getting your wood shop supply information from? I typically use the Wood Shop Directory on Slap Mag but wondered if there are any alternatives?
@TheRealWarez9 ай бұрын
@@benj6107 While the Slap directory is nice, I've found it can be inaccurate for some brands... mostly the ones you actually need the directory for (REAL, Anti-Hero, Almost, Enjoi, etc. don't change their manufacturing very often, if ever, as you probably know). So, I mainly go about it the same way I did before those resources such as Slap existed... I go online and try to find a website selling whatever board I'm looking at purchasing, that takes real front and back photos of their decks... Normally, if you can find that for said deck, you can zoom in and see whatever markings/engravings are on top. The Slap directory is very helpful in learning the woodshop markings, but like I said earlier, I never buy a deck anymore unless I see with my own eyes which shop it came from. You can also try contacting woodshops directly... sometimes they will answer any question you may have about which brands they work with. Sometimes they act like it's a national security secret. Just depends on who is answering the email/phone that day.

Love your story about the graphics.I still have my first lollypop board, think it's like a 30 year old Element deck, that have been ran over by a car, and is so worn there is bearly any tail left on it. I just kept it as like an art piece as I didn't want to break it, and I have like been painting on it to like justify keeping it on the wall. I ordered like a new deck online, but ofcourse they didn't send me the one I ordered, so I ended up with "grandma's curtains". That's just the perfect description of it, so I'll paint it the same way as my old board. Do you think there's any marked for cool looking skateboard graphics?

I love that size and wheelbase as I'm 47 years old and still flip the board around (to my ability 😄). I'm looking to retry a pair of Venture V-Hollow Hi as the forged baseplate will drop the truck a bit, how much would you think that would throw me off on my sessions?
@bendegros9 ай бұрын
I only like them on 14”WB. The only way to know what works is to try it. Try to em on your regular deck. If you hate it get a 14”WB or just go back to Indy’s.
@michaelgoldberg70189 ай бұрын
I hear what you're saying. For the board to feel like the WB I'm currently riding with Venture trucks, the board's WB would need to be shorter to compensate for the pivot to baseplate's design of the Venture as it's positioned wider than most of the truck brands currently. Thanks for getting back to me on this! 😁 @@bendegros
