So much wisdom. I locked into my "perfect setup" back in the late 90's, and I just couldn't skate transition at all with a low street board, nor could I ollie super high with low trucks and a flat board. I could do tech flatground and curb tricks for days, but struggled with ledges over a foot high, even if the curb version was easy. I always wondered why I could do switch flippidy tricks way easier than friends that rode larger boards, and sucked ass at taller ledges when I could back tail a curb and steeze it out for a long slide with a blindfold on. I'm sure a pro could get on a department store plastic board and land a laser flip it in three tries. I was ok at skating, but never amazing. I know nothing, Jon Snow.

I just finished riding my second deluxe full SE shape. The first one was an anti-hero 8.12 with the Full Kicks and 14 inch wheelbase. I loved it so much. My second was the 8.06 Real Full SE. I'm also taller and grew up skating in the 2000s on probably 14 inch wheelbase. I think you are right about the muscle memory on smaller boards it's like home. I think you look so comfortable on the smaller boards. You still rip on the big burly ones too though. Thanks for everything you do Ben super inspiring.

"Kyle Walker you don't ride this board" killed me. I got sent some stuff by a homie at DLX a few years ago and one of the boards had a post it that said "Kyle" on it NOW I'M NOT SAYING I got a board from his pile, probably not, but that's absolutely what I tell myself.

That Gonz toque is sick. I just started skating again after a few years off the board and your videos are helping me find the inspiration again. I moved to Australia from Alberta a couple weeks ago, and don’t have anyone to skate with so it’s usually solo sessions for as long as I can stand the heat. Not gunna lie, being 28 I find skating scarier then ever, definitely don’t have the confidence of my teen years anymore. Your videos push me to keep trying to relearn my old bag of tricks. What you said is spot on what I realized watching Caleb Barnett on hockey. It's why I started skating the 8.18-8.25 hockey shape. He's super tall but feet close together and laid back style. Some of the ones from psstix measure out with a 13.89 wheelbase 31.5 it's crazy at 6 foot 3 but has helped alot with controlling my upper body and relaxing.

My perfect setup. 8" Moose blank, Thunders standard, 52 mini logo wheels, any bones bearing. i would totally love this full SE shape if they made it symmetrical. im stuck on the twin tail but it would be nice if the shape was more full & the wheelbase was shorter. i use venture lo’s to help compensate for a quicker pop. my ideal set up would be if they would make a 8.3-8.75 symmetrical deck with a 14-14.25 wheelbase & mellow kicks. not picky on the concave but i would like it to be super full & squared out. i would stick with the modified venture lo’s(use a soft riser to preserve the deck, replace lower bushing with indy extra soft & remove the top washer so you can carve), hard luck ceramics, mob grip, & 58mm spitfire F4 conical fulls(so i dont have to worry about hitting rocks when bombing hills-you get used to the wheelbite). no one likes how crazy loose my trucks are but i think it helps your skating in a myriad of ways even tho it can make landing tricks harder. also not many people seem to care about the twin tail but i like how you dont have to worry about which side is which & how that basically doubles the life of the deck. especially with the soft riser to prevent pressure cracks.

Nice review, now time for discussion again :) First a suggestion, if you want to take short wheelbase testing to a new extreme... you might try out the Real Ferguson Cosmo Dots Full, which is quoted 31.5/8.06 with a WB of 13.9". I surely will, but have to grind down the torgersen perimeter first. I'm a less-than-tall guy at 174cm height, and i like the 14" variety of wheelbase. These boards feel less bulky to me, even more when they are shorter, well below 32". The fact about the techy, lower-popping character of the full SE's with the mellow kicks and concave is true, especially with smaller wheels even on standard trucks. When you have problems with higher ledges, resulting in ollieing more into than onto them, try to jump a little more "backwards", so it feels like kicking up the board almost vertically. This makes the back foot kick more forward, in direction of the wheels than straight down to the ground, which lifts your nose higher. Your front foot just needs to allow that, so you gotta pull it "back-up" a little more than usual. Nollies would be jumped more forwardish in this way. Consider the extra time you need to level out the board, to make tricks less rockety. This is making this style needing a little more strength to put into, but it's not making it too exhausting when carried out more often. Might be harder to describe than to just try :) This also helps with getting higher ollies on snowskate decks, which got no trucks but a steep nose/tail...
@bendegros5 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I have been getting progressively more used to it. Even the very next day was even better. It's still not my absolute ideal. I would add a degree or two to the kicks and add 1/8" to the overall length and WB making it 31.625 with 14.125WB. It's so close though. I really love this setup.
@makrospex5 жыл бұрын
@@bendegros These are rare figures, i guess. Most i've seen were 14.25 and 31.75 (and up).
