One small bit of advice I would add...try to envision your hips and shoulders landing on the same vertical plane as the edge you are grinding. I often see people learning this trick, and they get their back truck on, but their front truck misses a bit. Usually this is because the hips/shoulders are not fully “lined up” with edge you are grinding-and your feet / board will follow the direction your hips (and shoulders) are pointed, so you want to make sure that is on the same plane as your board/trucks/ledge.

Aim to land the front truck first and then set down the back truck. I've actually taught a few people the trick to to this trick when I saw they were having the same problem I was having when I was learning them. The front truck would miss and they'd end up in some weird feeble or slip into a boardslide and bail. The way I fixed this was to aim for the front truck first and then sort of pivot the back truck on. This not only achieves the lock in with both trucks but forces the correct body alignment.

You have geriatric skateboarder ESP. I've set tailslides, back 50's and heelflips as my three "get back" tricks and was sorely disappointed by the back 50 tips on KZbin. Was literally thinking "I hope Ben D.G. posts a trick tip on backside 50-50's" and you've delivered. Bonus points for crooks on that insane ledge at the end!

If you're just learning these, maybe first try to ollie up a curb backside, clearing the edge altogether. This will teach you the slight backside tweak you give your ollie when popping up something behind you, and once you can do that just start aiming for the edge.

I used to be a natural at bs 50-50s in my early teens. Could add tricks into and out of them and also had bs feebles and 5-0s pretty locked. Now coming back to skateboarding after 10 years I cannot bs 50-50 if my life depended on it. For some reason it just feels so awkward ollieing into it now. I can't pop the ollie and shifty the board into position to position to land in a 50-50 I either land in a weird crooked grind somehow or just miss the ledge entirely from trying to do the slight shifty to get both trucks onto the ledge I end up turning away from the ledge. So frustrating.

Yuri Lopes I have only landed frontside 5050 on a ledge and I never tried it yet on a rail. I find what is so hard with the backside 5050 is how to ollie up the curb from backside. I find a 5-0 is even more sicker on a rail than a 5050 and what is good about the 5-0 is that you only need to lock in your back truck. Just like with the 5050 on a ledge when your board does the overshoot on top, it is the same as someone trying to 5-0 on a ledge and when the 5-0 overshoots you have a manual instead which is similar to the 5-0. I tried boneless to 5-0 on a curb and it is fun. It is hard for it to grind but I’m getting the boneless to 5-0 position. A couple of times when I tried boneless to 5-0 the board did the overshoot so then I got boneless to manual. I find 5-0 is better than manual because it is easy to go off from the position of the 5-0 because it is locked in.

As a kid me and my mates made a box with some coping on just a pallet. But when I tried bs fifties I would actually come from front side and Ollie over to a bs fifty. And then just move more and move bs until it felt more normal though I think I was never to confident as I'd be Ollie more straight and never got with the angle that you approach. Seems like a good tip

Really good channel you have here man, super helpful tips. I’m in my late 30’s and have been off and on boards since the late 80’s, I was never really big on flip tricks though it’s mostly because I find them really difficult, I skate transition for the fun of it, even on ramps my tricks are very limited to basic lip tricks and simple early grabs that barely shoot me over the coping!! 😂 I can’t do back 50’s at all, no matter how much I try them, frontside is fine though except for flatbars that are round, I can’t seem to hold any balance on those at all and always slip out on them. 😞

@Dav21124 жыл бұрын
@@Fanaz10 and who are you?? You're so good at back 50-50's that you came on KZbin to watch back 50 tutorial videos, then comment and tell an old man who came from a transition skating background in the late 80s that they should try harder... Jog on man.
@Fanaz104 жыл бұрын
@@Dav2112 LMAO, calls OP an old man, attacks me for giving advice, way to go bruh. He said it himself - he finds flip tricks too difficult, then he ALSO finds back 5050s too difficult, and that's why he skates transition. Don't be a bitch, try harder, and you'll get it eventually.
@Dav21124 жыл бұрын
@@Fanaz10 you do realise I am the OP of this comment, and the old man I'm referring to is myself? back 50s on rails I can't do, and I struggled with flip tricks because I was never a 'street skater', what is it that's too hard for you to understand here? Grinding a rail is a lot harder than grinding the coping on the ramp, at least I have the ramp deck to balance on, I can't do them on rails because I can't balance them, I've been on and off boards for years mate, I never took it fully serious, I learned basic ramp tricks and had fun with it. Skateboarding is about having fun and I had plenty of fun doing it throughout the years.
@Fanaz104 жыл бұрын
@@Dav2112 aight dude, I get you're all about fun, nothing wrong with that, just don't go around whining you can't bs 5050s. btw, thought we were talking about bs 5050s in general and not round rails, that's a whole another level.

just keep doing kickflips bro. you'll get there. it sounds stupid but literally keep doing them repeatedly and practicing the flick with a lot of friction so the nose dips in the air. the trick is to figure out how to get a lot of friction when you flick - flick super hard, not super fast

I had those locked in the early 2000 and I used to to backside fiveohs too. But one day I accidently hit the backwheel on the edge of the curb so that the board didnt come up. Since then I have build this crazy mental blockage of that trick and it bothers me.
