I say this with love. Ben, you yourself are cheating on slappies. There shouldn’t be any lifting of the front or back truck. The nose hitting the curb is what is supposed to get the front truck on the curb and make the slap that slappies are named for. The true test if you can do them is to try them with your feet right on the bolts. If you’re bored one day give them a shot. Roll up at a 45 degree angle or more (oddly enough more is easier, but you grind less the more straight on you hit it). Your nose should bash similar to when getting into slappy crooks. And like you said, there shouldn’t be any lifting. As your front truck locks in, putting a little more weight on your front foot and being weightless on the back foot should guide the truck onto the curb naturally. One of the best tips I have is to think of them as fakie 50-50 stalls in the mini ramp. It’s the opposite of regular stance 50-50s The leading truck gets on first. The trailing truck follows. When you figure out the proper way, they’ll feel way more consistent. Especially with feebles. Figuring out how to get the nose to slap on the way into feebles was weird, but I’m glad I did. I used to eat shit all the time trying them the way you did them in the video. They feel way better now.

All great tips, I did the back truck-first approach for ages, until I learned slappy crook into back 5-0. In the process of learning that trick I picked up slappy crook to 50-50, and then the front truck-first, proper slappy method came. Think of it like slappy crook to back 50, but keep your weight on your toes (as opposed to standing up on your front foot heel as you would to get up on top of a slappy crook). And yes, a deep carve is everything; it will naturally push you from the sharper crook angle into back 50
@ejlopez6637
@ejlopez6637 Жыл бұрын
You want the curb to be taller than your nose. The ones that sit lower are actually harder to snappy. The carve in method Ben was talking about will help though. You also need that same carving technique for slappying stuff at ledge height. Otherwise, if it’s just an average curb/parking block you can get into it by just bashing.

i think it's cheating too, the real one is when you don't use neither your nose and your tail. You have too put both feets on bolts. Only way to don't do a tic tac, to really smash the curb. Of couse you can do it like you want, but i swear the sensation is way more intense and fun when you'r doing those like this. Try it, have a good day !

In my opinion this is not the "correct" way to do then. This is the way Dan Corrigan does em. Where he smashes that front truck into the curb. It works, but if you watch the way Jef Hartsel does em, that’s the best way ..in my opinion. Looks smoother. At 3:00 it actually looks like you’re lifting your nose..? I always keep my back foot closer to the bolts than to the tail. That makes it harder to cheat. Cause I’m not able to push down the tail so easy.

@ElisainNature
@ElisainNature Жыл бұрын
@@18JR78 I don’t agree. In my opinion it’s easier to cheat the longer back your front foot is places. And it’s also easier to bend up the wheels by keeping the front foot over the bolts. But after a while I started moving it a bit behind the bolts. Then you’re more ready to take a new trick off the curb. Yeah, I feel you. Gets more and more difficult to pull it off the bigger your balls get though. 😕 🥜 I got a micro-penis with two gigantic balls, so I know how hard it can be 😞🐛

To help fix your achilles or ankle problems, try riding a road/mountain bike while standing with the balls of your feet on the pedals and butt off the seat. This will activate your calves and other supporting elements around the ankle, including the achilles. Bike riding is also great for quad development which ultimately helps to stabilize the knee. Plus riding a bike is very low impact.

@@bp4861 anything you said is ultimately wrong. As a skier and skater which are both terrible for your knees. Biking is one of the best things you can do for your knees. Running is bad cuz it's high impact. Skating isn't bad or your knees but you're only using a limited amount of muscle groups and it doesn't help with rehab. Road biking is really good for your knees. Low impact, builds up muscle all around your knee which helps with your cartilidge and helps stabilize your knee. The fact you even made this comment is beyond me. If you have super bad knee pain from jumpers knee the best thing you can do to get rid of that pain is ride a bike. and Yes BMX would probably not be good for your knees.

Excellent points! As a hockey player / ice skater as well as skateboarder, I have noticed that running is good for cardio but high impact on the joints and riding the bike is good for building lower body strength around the major joints while still being low impact. Riding a stationary bike at any intensity is most certainly one of the best things you can do when you are injured. Sitting upright with your hands off the bars also builds core strength.

honestly It just looks like you’re doing a slappy but not fast enough and not getting a hard enough carve in, slappies pretty much always have your front truck hitting first, granted you shouldn’t “lift” with your front truck but if you go fast and carve hard enough you’ll essentially powerslide in, jason adams is a great example, but he still does get on with his front truck first, just not really leveraging with the front truck as much like a tic-tac up. to me you just need more angle, at least on your backside 50-50’s.

Stop calling learners, posers, even if you are talking about yourself. Encourage dont discourage. People are hard enough on themselves, they dont need words like poser always being tossed around when someone isnt doing something proper. A poser has always been a label reserved for people that dont actually skate. Lets not use it against our learners. I remember being picked on and called a poser because I was riding a variflex while they rode Santa Cruz boards, and My stickers came from a plastic egg out of a candy machine at K-Mart and theirs came from the skate shop. none of which has anything to do with actually riding. It was not pleasant and it just meant I had to skate alone and that made it so I couldnt learn much, because I had nobody to learn from. its not like today when you can turn on stream or dwnld some video. I digress, and I will say, I am glad you are actually skating again and not pushing products. I hope the heel is ok. Tighten up them laces Ben!

Dude he's making fun of the word you poser LOL. A lot of us know what it's like to be on the receiving end, especially if you were just getting into skating in the 90s like I was. You were a poser if you had baggy pants or if you didn't have baggy pants, had skate shoes or didn't have skate shoes, etc. etc. It's definitely something us older skaters think is ridiculous now and he's jokingly using it. I learned by constantly asking these older kids that were Fking jerks to me the whole time and I put up with all their laughing and condescending remarks and they'd never help me. I would go home and practice in the dark in my backyard every night and tell myself that I was going to do what I love no matter what. Eventually, this poser was kickflipping 6 sets and trying stuff they were too comfy and scared to try, at half their age and size. So believe me dude, I get it.

Get a good physical therapist to help you through your achilles tendonitis. I'm only two years younger than you and I've gone through this injury twice now and the only thing that helped me get through it was actually doing the exercises prescribed and not resting too much. My PT actually recommended that I keep skating because inactivity is even worse for something like tendonitis because the muscle and ligament just stays tight instead of loosening up like it does when warmed up with movement/exercise. Warming up before skating, a static stretching routine and after skating (stretching my big toe in addition to calves really helps a lot), getting hands-on treatment from a PT, massage gun for your calves, and doing exercises to strengthen your achilles and ankle. That is how you treat it. Hip mobility will also help improve your symptoms as well as getting some really good insoles for your shoes to actually give your arches the support they need. I just recovered from this again after falling into bad no stretching habits for a while but it's already starting to go away because I'm doing the right things again. Not even sure if you will read this but I hope it helps if you do.

Dan C. "cheats", its always slightly lifted vs bashed. His foot positioning give it away. Sup Dan ;)

I used to slightly lift when I realized I was scared. Once my balls grew I started bashing them in full speed and tight angles. Gotta keep the front foot behind the front bolts to avoid any cheating. The faster the easier.

Real backside slappy is no lift , front truck always first.

Rewatching this, I kinda prefer to do bs slappies like that, I mean bs feebles are done like that, because now I think bs smith or 5-0 slappies may be easy that way

Front truck first, you still can’t slappy

Ben I hate to tell you but you are still not doing a legit 50/50 slappy because you lift up your front truck . A legit slappy your front truck bashes into the curb first and then your back truck follows .
