Hey man thanks for your compliment. I think my bass sounds really good here. It’s a 30 inch scale bass with flat wound. I’m using the front pickup and play near the bridge. I think short scale bass really shines in accompanying this song.

hey i’m new to playing bass and this tab is very helpful but i noticed that you aren’t playing what’s written in the numbered tab in the second to last measure of the phrase (like in measure 7 i think) so are you playing 6-6-5 on the e string? thank you!!

Hey Grace, good observation! I look back at what I did, I noticed 2 things: 1. I play a G note at the end of beat two, which is the 5th of C. I think there is a transcription mistake here about the E string and A string, but overall it's the same. I will give you an example: I play 6th fret on E string in the video, which is the same note as 1st fret of A string (Bb), and 5th fret on E string is the same note as open string of A string. A rule of thumb is that if you need to play the same note on the thicker string before the thinner string, you add 5 frets. Yeah so that means you can basically play this song with open string + first few frets of A string. As a bass player, it's some good knowledge to have (Sometimes it's too hard to play in certain positions). Yeah I do make a mistake here, probably when I was checking the tab at the end, I didn't move it to E string. And I recommend you to explore and find your best position to play :D. Hey Harmony, yeah I look at your channel and the group cover is interesting! I think the tone of this video is achieved by using a short scale bass with flat wound, front pickup on, and play close to the bridge. I’m using a Darkglass compressor but I think EBS compressor with Tube mode can make the sound fatter. I think with a short scale bass and flat wound, the bass will have a weak attack and has this lazy sound, also plucking close to the bridge brings out the fretless kind of tone (an extreme example will be Jaco). Feel free to experiment with something similar (Fender Mustang Bass with flatwound could be a good option)
