Bengal Train Tragedy: Whose fault is it & who's paying the price? Questions that demand answer!

A goods train rammed into the rear bogies of the Kanchanjunga express on Monday morning, at least 8 people have lost their lives in the Bengal train accident, and several others have been injured. Repair and restoration work has been underway since the morning. However, the laborers who have been toiling hard are usually the ones travelling in the general compartments of the trains, and sadly, fall prey when such accidents strike.

These accidents are not unavoidable. They could have been avoided if the ministry and management have been more conscientious and effective. Signal system are automated and every train is supposed to have a safety system that automatically is supposed to put a brake to any train if an obstacle is detected ahead. Then how can such an accident happen, over and over again? The signalling system must have failed. How can it fail so often if care is taken to keep it operative? So there is negligence at every level and the person at the very top must take responsibility. The minister and his board along with top officials have blood on their hands.

Dear Taha this is an automatix section. In automatic section there can be more than one train between two stations. If a train occupies some track the signal behind is red, behind that yellow and so on. So the driver of goods train must have seen yellow and then red signal but overshot it. Thats the prima facie. However, a report of status of signals in the section is essential which will shed light on whether driver actually overshot the signal or not

It's already confirmed by so many mainstream media channels that the automatic signalling was not working and both the train got clearance of paper signalling hence it's not the fault of the goods train driver. Railway officials are just trying to pass the blame game as he is no more.

He would have seen double yellow signal two signals back from the location of Kanchenjunga. There only he should have reduced speed. What exactly was the status of signals is important and that so far is undisclosed. So far the understanding is signaling was proper. So he would have seen double yellow, then yellow and then red before encountering Kanchenjunga exp. He didn't follow these signals

@@sarthakgouda no written authority is never given in Automatic block section There is no concept of authority in automatic section unless Advance is in manual and fails. However advance is station signal not block section. In block section loco pilot has to stop at a red signal for 1 minute during day and 2 minutes during night. After that he shall proceed cautiously at a speed at which he may apply brakes in case of urgency. And signal behind this signal will be yellow and behind that will be double yellow. So he has to go cautiously from double yellow signal only, reducing speed at yellow, stopping at red for 1 minute and then proceeding at a minimal speed. However he was at 110 kmph which means he didn't follow signals.

Loco pilots live like bandhua majdoor working 15-16 hours continuously Technician and inspection of trains& wagons are now less important Only one this important is New station building, vandhe bharat,cutout of pm in station. Mr. Rly minister should acknowledge that pressure on rly staff increase 100× in his time period So increase vaccancy Should Control in Babu giri Acknowledge loco pilots problems from long hours duty to Ops .

Vande Bharat should not be brought into the topic but separately we need to discuss, Indian railways need to speed up their tracks upgradation process which is also limiting the speed of the Vande Bharat’s speed and the implementation of the Kavach system is quite slow they need to speedup the whole process. It’s a good thing that work on the dedicated freight corridors have began that will decrease the load on such passengers routes but also the present ICF coaches should be decommissioned immediately and should be replaced with LHB coaches.
