The Bengal train accident that shook the country at large, claimed over 8 lives and injured many. The restoration work has finally come to an end, and trains have come back on the tracks, moving past the debris that lay as a grim reminder of the accident. However, the families who have lost their loved ones are now grappling to survive in the aftermath of this fatal accident, their lives have now come to a standstill.

I think the push is to make more from existing staff who we know are not 100% productive. Unfortunately this is having an impact on critical staff like loco pilots who are being asked to drive beyond statutory number of hours due to lack of staff. These vacancies should be filled first.

​@@varunadas actually railway haven't done organizational restructuring since railway do not want ticketing staff due to vending machines and more people opting UTS,IRCTC like app.Along with that for maintenance railway have adapted track machines, we dont want track man and JE like before.That why less recruitment being happening.

Great work Tamal, the most frustrating part of this incident and several such incidents in the last few years is , they are so easily avoidable by just implementing measures which are already available, it's as if the lives of lower and middle class Indians are so dispensable, run them down with cars driven by millionaire minors drunk in the liquor of power and ignorance or let them die in accidents which are avoidable by upgrading railway security technologies. I was on my way back home from work in Kolkata today and the cab driver told me that he lost a close friend, he said that the railway ministry didn't even include his name in the list of deceased, they had to write to the railway ministry to get this rectified, it is not the facilities that we as a privileged class enjoy that makes my nation great, but the feeling of parity that the economically backward class feels that makes a nation great.

This is so true people have the shortest memories. When Covid happened and i saw people dying left right and center and government trying to hide the death toll. I thought people will be offended that no body offered thm help but see. They forgot so soon. 😢😢😢

Least Indian Railways could do is to make arrangements for body to be sent to family of deceased. Some of these people are so poor that they can't afford transport in those carriers (we call them ambulances but in reality is simply a goods wagon). Also compensation should be prioritised so these people can afford to pay for the last rites and necessary religious functions rather than borrow from someone. Frustrating that we have so far not been told the truth behind this accident and no one has spoken to the assistant loco pilot of goods train who is alive (railway board has announced he is dead already).

If the NTT team is reading, your efforts are benchmarks, but correct me if I am wrong, there was system called ACD (Anti Collision System -gps based) passed in railways 18 yrs ago & trails were done in 50+ trains- A video of national geographic can also be found confirming it, if you can put pressure as to what has happened to this system in your videos I m sure things will improve.condolences to families who lost their life.

There was an interview with ex-GM of ICF who clarified that ACD had issues during testing. Kawach was built on top of improvements in core ACD but deployment of necessary infrastructure to operate this will take many years given slow pace citing capacity issues with suppliers (we know this is a lie as the priority is on building and inaugurating Vande-Bharat trains so our media savvy PM can cut ribbons).

It is very important for the media to show the news continuously. Because once the days pass and the media stops showing this accident news, the railway board/govt. will slow down the investigation, blame it on the dead loco pilot and close it. Only the victims and their family loses.

The railways needs to reform. Prices must go up. There should be general specific trains and people need to pay for railway services. Poverty is not an excuse for not paying

*Prima facie cause* The Loco Pilot of GFCJ Container train disregarded the G&SR and proceeded at normal speed and collided with 13174 ahead. Sign On Timings of Crew: The crew of GFCJ Container train had complete rest before they signed on in the morning of 17.06.2024 - LP Anil Kumar at 06:44 after Night off (More than 30 hours of HQ rest). Last sign off was at 00:33 of 16.06.2024. - ALP Monu Kumar 06:42 after Periodical Rest (More than 30 hours of HQ rest). Last sign off was at 13:00 of 15.06.2024. *Background* There was failure of track circuits due to lightning and thunderstorms due to which Automatic Signals between Rangapani and Chatterhat were not working. The failure occurred at 05:50 of 17.06.2024 which was communicated to Signal Dept at 06:05. As per G&SR 9.12/1 the System of Working changes from Automatic Block System to Absolute Block System when such a failure is “likely to last for some time or cause serious delay” declared as prolonged by the concerned officials of Signalling Dept. Since the failure was likely to be rectified soon, the failure was not declared as prolonged failure by the Signalling Dept, hence the existing Automatic Block System continued to be followed. In the event of signal failures in the Automatic Block System, to operate the trains, a paper authority is given to each train to pass the signals in “ON” viz. Red/Blank, the below mentioned Rule Position is followed. *Sequence of events* 1. Signal failure between Rangapani and Chatterhat stations occurred at 05:50 of 17.06.2024 which was communicated to Signal Dept at 06:05. 2. Since the failure was expected to be rectified soon, the Signalling Dept did not declare the failure as a prolonged failure as per G&SR 9.12. Thus the Automatic Block System continued to be in force. 3. As per Rule Position, G&SR 9.01 Authority T/A 912 was issued to all the 7 trains which departed from Rangapani station after the commencement of the failure. The signal numbers of the failed signals were mentioned on the Authority. 4. Train No. DN 13174 Kanchanjunga Exp (Agartala - Sealdah) was proceeding as per the above G&SR position and given Authority and was stopping at the signals. It had stopped at signal number ‘AS650’ between Rangapani and Chhaterhat stations for the prescribed time. 5. Meanwhile, GFCJ Container train departed from Rangapani with the same authorities. 6. As per the Gateman at NC 9 (which is around 1 km before the accident location) and as per the Train Manager the speed of the train was around 40-50 kmph. Total 7 DN trains passed from Rangapani during failure of the automatic signals with paper authority T/A-912.

If you can't fill up vacancies replace with AI enabled software and ultra modern, foolproof, impeccable automation. Your signalling staffs are outdated and unskilled, the shuttle changes at Board level doesn't come down to rank and files on time. Your engineers, station masters, Labourers, supervisors have their own way of functioning.

Indeed India moves on too soon especially when the deceased is a poor who's literally insignificant for the govt, bureaucracy, city people & elites... Sorry but even Cyrus Mistry road accident(self negligence of over speeding & no seat belts) got more condolences, mournings & media coverage than this accident! Rather some media section sat with comparison of number of accidents between UPA & NDA government! For them the loss of life is just another incident & ya they move on too soon ...!
