That would be the kind of thing that would annoy me so I completely get you! The flat is beautiful and spacious, I like how you've kept so much of the previous furniture and just repurposed it/are using some pieces in different areas etc Thanks for sharing it with us!

Benita I had a "friend" who came to my new home and for the first 10 minutes all they did was point out all the things they would have done or "how they could never live in such a stark/cold home". I told them I will do them one better and that they will never have to be subjected to such offensive surroundings and that the front door in which they walked through was an exit as well. Let us remember that the button reads "comment" not "critique".

When we first moved into our house the bedroom light was on the same switch as the ceiling fans. If you turned off the lights you turned off the fans. It was summer and hot so we needed the fans to sleep so every night I had to climb on the bed to unscrew the lightbulbs so I could turn off the light. It was a joyous day when we finally got that fixed.

We recently found (were found by) a stray cat who is a dead ringer for your tuxedo. He even has that little side moustache white mark. He is on the couch with me right now, looking fat and happy, apparently adjusting very well to his new indoor life and really enjoying his new human servants. You've just given me the info I needed to tell my landlord (I'm a renter) why I don't want a smart lighting system. Here in NYC they're becoming the rage but I personally don't want to have excessive technology throughout my apartment because I have no interest in making my living space more complicated than it needs to be. We have the Phillips Hue system and uses an internet connection with a Wi-Fi router to communicate to the individual lightbulbs with voice or programming. Otherwise turning the switch on and off works as well. It’s been awesome! Especially the color bulbs and dimming options. The one in this apartment sounds like an absolute nightmare.

An all white kitchen, with a light grey marble counter top, like in your last apartment will look great! I can see how frustrating it must be to keep wiping those mat cabines. Also about the electricals! Once you have all this settled, you place will be awesome.

I like the feature of a hidden exhaust fan and love the decorative crown moldings and the medallions around the ceiling lights - they add character. White cabinetry in the kitchen will make a big difference with the ambiance and like you I would also take it apart and redo; so true that once you see it you can't be unseen❤ Your new home is looking rather welcoming already!

I know what you mean, my friend’s home in Canada is all on an app for the heating, so he can put the heat down and up when he is away and have it just right when he comes home. I just can’t get used to computerized switches. My old apartment I live in still has a fuse box, no breakers. But I am renting so hope change on that coming in the future

I like your new kitchen ideas. I always thought I wouldn't like a smart house, I'd rather just do things manually. Now I know for sure that it's more trouble than it's worth! It adds depth and character into a lighter apartment, also the color is very natural, as If you’re in the forest! 🌳 works well with all the wood furniture you have. Most interesting. It always takes some time of living in a new home to work out what needs updating or changing of leaving as it is. To live in your old stomping grounds is wonderful and being so much closer to family and friends is so important and very exciting to be able to get out daily and just wander about in the city. The cat is going to be so happy to be able to get outside when the weather improves and you have the cattio in place as I am sure it misses its dear friend. I hope you have a wonderful day. 🙂

About the (smart) lighting situation - Ikea has plenty of smart light bulbs on offer and they have switches as well. Their switches are battery powered and not wall mounted, but you can just stick them next to your regular switches and they'll work like a charm. You could even remove the current switches and replace them with dummy covers and stick Ikea switches on top of that, so guest avoid the confusion. I would also recommend Xiaomi. They dont have as many bulbs, but they do have additional sensors you can set up, like motion or light sensors. Those can be helpful in situations like turning the night light when they sense you step out of bed at 3am. Or the sensors detect that its getting too dark in the room during the day and turn on the lights where needed. Like Ikea, they also have those portable switches that you can program to switch lights or set up additional functions. Looking forward to see how you go about this and also looking forward to seing the new kitchen when its done.
