Hi, I'm Jeremy Vassar. I've been painting homes for over 20 years, and I want to help you with your painting projects. My brother Josh and I work together to make painting easy for DIYers and homeowners like you.
I've painted everything-from small rooms to entire houses-and I've tested tons of different products. On this channel, I'll show you all my tips, tricks, and honest reviews.
I know anyone can say anything online, so here’s my story to help you see what I can do.
Jeremy Vassar's Painting Journey
Age 15-21: I started painting schools in the summers with my brother Josh. This is where I learned the basics.
Age 21: I graduated from Temple University and started painting full-time with Josh.
Age 21-27: I worked up to 60 hours a week, painting high-end homes and a large retirement community-up to 60 units a year.
Age 24: Josh and I became co-owners of Handyworks Painting LLC, making our painting business official.
Age 24 (also): We started working with Danken, a company that does kitchens and baths. We still work with them today.
Age 25: We began working with Gemmi Construction, a high-end company. We still work with them too.
Age 28: I learned how to stain wood like newel posts, handrails, and steps
Age 28-38: I kept getting better, learned to work faster, and delivered even better results. We were also able to charge more for our work because of the quality.
Age 34: I started this KZbin channel to help DIYers and homeowners with painting projects.
Age 38: I launched "Paint Your Home Now," a community to help people paint their homes quickly and easily.
How many rooms I've painted (Best Guesses):
Bedrooms: 2,000+
Bathrooms: 1,000+
Kitchens: 300+
Exteriors (partial and complete): 300+
Family Rooms, Living Rooms, Foyers, Hallways: 2,000+
Closets: 3,000+
Wallpaper Removed from Rooms: 100+
I hope I can help you make your home look amazing with paint!
Jeremy Vassar

Liked and Subscribed. I am in the process of painting My room. I bought Benjamin Moore Waterborne Ceiling Paint today($60/gallon) and applied one fairly heavy coat. This ceiling has not been painted since 2008 and the room is used daily. What a nice job it did covering the ceiling with nice, fresh appearance. I am going to apply one more coat just for the heck of it. It can't hurt. If anyone is on the fence about getting this paint? DON'T BE!! Grab a gallon(or 5) and GO TO TOWN!

My favorite ceiling paint. For an individual that is doing the work themselves and not a professional painter it gives them the most reliable result, because of how flat it is. I have tried 3 different ceiling paints and this is by far the best looking ceiling paint I have ever used. It makes your ceilings look more expensive. I probably put in no joke over 40 hours of research into ceiling paints, and on the professional paint forums this paint was the gold standard.

Hi there. Glad you like the paint. We've noticed painters and DIY'ers put higher emphasis on different aspects of a product. Such as cost, ease of use, and finish. Sounds like you go for the finish. Good luck on your projects!

I'll second this for any DIYers out there. I took a ceiling in really bad shape (old water damage, bad previous repairs, and a huge dip) and repaired it as best I could. This paint hid all the flaws in 2 coats. I barely noticed the splatter, either, but this is the first time I've done a ceiling so I have no point of reference. It splattered much less than the primer... that's for sure. Just make sure you keep moving! I had a few lap marks on the 1st coat, but the 2nd coat was perfect.

So I get what you’re saying I work at an ace hardware and I’m wondering now there is a new label does that mean and of course it says ultra flat! Did they just change the label and it’s the same paint or did they change the formula?

I believe it went through a mild revision but nothing like the new formulations of regal matte and eggshell.

I tried to contact Benjamin Moore, but I haven’t heard back! Like I said, the cover on 508 ceiling paint has changed as did all the regal products which from what I understand the formula has changed ! What’s the question is the canned you’re holding at 5:08 ceiling paint now looks totally different. In terms of the label is a different or just a new label.
@SuperVassarBrothers

They’ve recently changed several formulations. Usually when the label changes then they’ve done something with the formulation.

This is probably a dumb question but I got a bunch of SW Duration in Matte for my basement ceilings…. I meant to only get it for the bathroom ceiling but I ended up getting it for all the ceilings in the basement. 😢 Should I eat the cost and get a flat version?? The color by the way is also SW ceiling bright white.
@SuperVassarBrothers

Nah, you don’t need to eat the cost. The Duration Matte will look fine on the ceilings. It’s obviously not going to be a dead flat, but it’s a soft enough sheen to look good on ceilings. Go ahead and smear that goo 🤙

What 14" frames do you use ? The wooster and Purdy are much too flimsy and flex too much for me. They are ok for eggshell over eggshell, but for flats or priming they just bend too much. I currently use 12" rollers from,a Canadian company called Nour and I absolutely LOVE them. At times I will just cut down a wooster pro dooz from 14"to 12" and re bevel the edge with scissors.
@SuperVassarBrothers
@SuperVassarBrothers Жыл бұрын
We use the Sherlock frames. Probably the ones you’re thinking of. We’ve tried the Purdys as well. They’re both meh. They both bend over time as the metal gets strained. For us they last long enough to still be worth it. Maybe one day someone will make a decent roller frame 😔

I recently used Behr i100 dead flat for my ceiling, I love the actual flat color of the paint. But I hate it overall, whenever it dries it tends to leave roller marks and just looks terrible. I was thinking about using this paint, but I recently saw a comment where someone is from where I am and it cost $60+. Ouch. (Edited: just checked the paint is actually around $74.99) A big yikes. 😬 Idk what other flat paint to use that'll blend right into the Behr i100 dead flat with one coat. I'm not trying too put 2 more coats again. I already put 2 coats of primer, and 2 coats of paint. The primer I used was the Behr + sealer primer and I honestly loved that primer. No roller marks with the primer when I used it and it hides extremely well.
@SuperVassarBrothers
@SuperVassarBrothers 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry you don't like the paint. We are picky about our ceiling paints and have tried a bunch (haven't tried that one tho). From what I gather, you need another ceiling paint which doesn't show roller marks and is a dead flat. For Benny Moore we like Super Hide Flat better than the waterborne ceiling paint. Video link below. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIPVpJWGhaiMhsU For Sherwin Williams we like Promar Ceiling paint. If that is too expensive try Super Paint in Flat. I would bank on doing two coats (sorry) so it looks solid. Our record is 7 coats for walls where we kept changing sheens (3 different paints and a primer). So we still have ya beat :)
@JulianBG
@JulianBG 9 ай бұрын
Here in Europe Sherwin Williams is not available at all - it seems it is a local (US) brand, so is not that interesting for us to compare with something that you cannot buy and use. From another hand, virtually every single paint sold in my country is thinned with water, which is always labeled in the paint store, how much it should be thinned before trying to use it. This is universal here and I haven't seen a paint sold around that have no recommended thinning. For example the latest formula of Regal Select must be thinned 5% with pure water. Also in the official Benjamin store the Waterborne Ceiling Paint is also mandatory to be thinned 5%. Yesterday, I've asked - is that just a recommendation, depending of the temperature or weather? They said - no, you must dilute it 5% and stir well otherwise it would be hard to apply directly. So, I'm really, really surprised that in USA that the topic about thinning with water is not something publicly discussed and I have no idea why in those specialised paint shops don't recommend the paint contractors or homeowners how much to thin, before trying to apply. It seems for me, that there is an expectation that you should be able to use the can out of the box without thinning, while for me that means you have more solids and when you dilute it a bit, then you actually save money (i.e. you get more usable paint for less money). Also, knowing a range for the thinning (for example from 5 to 10%) is also important because obviously it is different how easy to apply is, if the temperature is 50F/10C or it is hot - 86F/30C and you might need a little bit more or less water.
@SuperVassarBrothers
@SuperVassarBrothers 9 ай бұрын
That is quite interesting. I know some folks that thin their paint with water. It’s not the norm in the US. I don’t use any paints that I have to thin. Nor have been instructed to do so. The expectation is that it should work well as formulated.

It's our preference not to spray. Often with spraying, particularly thicker paints, you end up having to water them down. We only use Waterborne Ceiling Paint if we absolutely have to. There are a lot of other products that are cheaper and easier to use.

Hi - I have purchased this BM waterborne ceiling paint for bedroom ceiling. I was getting the ceiling re-skimmed beforehand due to lots of imperfections. The plasterer applied PVA glue on the existing painted ceiling in preparation to apply the plaster. Unfortunately, the plaster would not stick so the job was discontinued. Now I am left with PVA (shiny) ceiling, with lots of imperfections. I sanded out most imperfections by hand and was about to apply the BM ceiling paint but thought I would check out beforehand whether it was okay to paint on top of PVA. All the advice online says 'NO - don't do it'. I think because PVA is waterbased and emulsion paint is waterbased it will probably not be a good surface to paint on and both the PVA and paint will likely peel. What are your thoughts / advice on this problem? Would an acrylic paint like BM waterborne ceiling paint work in this instance or is there any other type of paint or prep that can address this problem? Thank you.
@SuperVassarBrothers
@SuperVassarBrothers Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure about PVA glue, but I’ve painted over a lot of PVA primer with no issues. I’d recommend doing a test area to see if you have any issues. If it sticks and looks good then let it rip

Why is a professional painter showing a video of cutting around can lights that have not been dropped down?
@SuperVassarBrothers
@SuperVassarBrothers 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sharon, nice observation. Sometimes we will drop the lights down, but a lot of times we don't. We are precise and don't get paint on the fixtures and can accomplish the job faster without dropping them. Also we have had the brackets that hold the lights break or won't retract up all the way because of age or faulty brackets. Depends on the paint crew, but we never have complaints when when we don't drop the can lights down. Have a great day and thanks for keen eye :)

I couldn’t disagree more on every level. If you know how to paint, there is no better ceiling paint regardless of price. This is it, the real deal. I’m guessing this person has never actually used this paint or they would see that this is the one. You can’t really review some thing if you haven’t used it. Knowing how well it works. I would bet that this person has never actually used this paint. It’s what I do. I’m a painter.
