Strange, when Rick passed I opened a Bottle of Rye and sat in the back yard and reminisced High School in the late 70's. How I over looked this song baffles me, sure Rick wrote it, but Orr's effort is a next level memory for sure.

The Cars were one of my most favorite Bands. I saw them live in the 70's. Benjamin was my favorite. I thought he was the most beautiful man I'd ever seen. I'm so heartbroken that he died so young. The fact that it was Cancer was a crushing blow to me. I lost my only son to Cancer when he was 32. Nobody deserves to suffer like that. I'll always keep listening to your music. Sending love and prayers to you Benjamin I hope you are in Heaven with Rick and my son Matthew. 😔💔🙏🙏🙏💙💙💙❤️❤️❤️🎸🎶

@@mightychuba4025 I don't think Hawkes' keyboards made their sound as much as Ray Manzarek's made The Doors. It's pretty standard as far as new wave goes, but it beautifully compliments their sound. Now, Easton's guitar playing, on the other hand... very underrated.

Ben's vocals are incredible as always, but Greg Hawkes needs mentioning here as his incredible keyboard playing just makes this song! Greg's keyboard playing throughout almost all of The Cars songs through the years had a lot to do with the "sound" of the Cars. They were a unique blend of Pop, New Wave, Rock, and other styles that just worked and created one of the greatest bands of the late 70's and 80's.

Out of many of their huge hit songs it was THIS SONG that was left behind in my mind only to bang around in there for the next thirty years or so. It still sounds fresh even today. I think that's what every musician tries to achieve- a song of lasting quality that has tremendous "staying power." This is one of the greatest rock songs of all time... and the Cars will not be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame again in 2017. What the eff! Their song writing, groundbreaking keyboards & guitars, unique way of trading off lead vocals, originality that was groundbreaking and is timeless... Damn. But this song... man, it's the bomb. (They will be inducted into Rock Hall of Fame in 2018!)

I hope they kept some of his DNA before he died so maybe one day in the future they can clone him. He was just too beautiful and talented to be gone forever.

Benjamin Orr was sadly missed at the HOF induction. His voice fit every single song he sang for the Cars. RIP brother.

I agree! Back then, we saved our money, bought the albums, found time to blast them when our parents were out. The Cars weren't a New Wave band but a whole phenomenon of the modern Rock era. They were in the class of "The Greatest Rock Bands Ever" with whole albums full of great songs. They incorporated the keyboard too, so did Boston, but not like this! New Wave at the time was Missing Persons. Not everyone liked them, but EVERYBODY loved The Cars.
