My first Southern Word was "Ommuhnuh," in a deep male voice. I overheard this in a mall, and at the speed of thought I wondered "Is he going into a Sesame Street routine?" Immediately, though, he finished his thought, ". . . git me a cuppa coffee here." So "Ommuhnuh" means " I intend to ..."

+Chella Born and raised in TN here, traveled all over the South, worked in AL, lived in GA briefly; I've _never_ heard anyone call it a "buggy." While some call it a shopping cart, most people call it simply a "basket." As in, "Go get us a basket for the groceries."
@chinchella3
@chinchella3 8 жыл бұрын
Well, I had never heard the term either until I moved to Alabama... a basket is different from a shopping cart. It's the smaller BASKET as opposed to the cart on wheels.

I live in georgia and maybe its because i live here but i cant think of anything super out of the ordinary. My extended family from illinois thought it was weird that i said "fridge" instead of refrigerator, but some of them also couldnt believe i didnt eat beans everyday and that i didnt live in a little house on the prairie with giant white columns and shit.
