My first trip out of India was way back in Nov 1996…. My destination Chicago… lived there for one full year… brought back all the memories …. Walk around downtown….navy piers… driving down lakeshore drive … and of course going up Sears Tower when it was still the tallest building in the world 😀… I still have the box full of pictures

Missed you by about a week. Be in Kolkata in 7 days! Ex-Michigander here. Big Rapids, Grand Rapids, Detroit. Always my favorite places. But Kolkata is dear to me too. Enjoy the quaint city that is falling out of step from its other megapolis cities in India. The food scene though, incomparable.

IGI Airport in New Delhi has very cheap sleeping pods at the airport itself for the convenience of passengers waiting for a connection. They are called SAMS (Snooze At My Space) and with hot shower facilities. You do not exit the airport so fewer hassles of commuting.

Hello, I am from Kolkata. Please, visit the Newtown - Saltlake - Rajarhat area. That is the most developed part of Kolkata where you can find places like Eco Park and Nicco Park. A hanging restaurant is also present. Also, you can visit places like Park Street, Alipore, etc.

As you'll be staying in Kolkata for a longer duration, do visit North Bengal, the Dooars and Darjeeling district and also Sikkim, as it is unspoilt natural beauty there, however as winters is on the anvil, it is very cold there and with luck you may even get snow.

Brave man! Why would you go to India? Oh yes, it was going cheap! Years ago I have fond memories of all the impoverished (Goras) in Paharganj, near the railway station in Delhi. The poor in India (and there are many) gives the rest of us hope, that there is a chance of a new life if one is worthy! You have to put sentimentality aside when you get here as most Indians do....or you are lost for good.

You will have completely different vibes in different parts of kolkata.... Visit Newtown with mother's wax museum and eco park seven wonders.. industrial area... nicco park... Science City.. belur math and dakshineswar temple... In Esplanade region you can visit Victoria memorial park... National museum... Birla planetarium... Race course.. alipore zoo.. Nandan... Children museum.. in the south Rabindra sarovar lake... Vidyasagar Setu.. Ganges river front... Ice skating rink etc etc.. North and central has hundreds of historic sites... Plus lots of markets shopping malls.. if you can visit IIT Kharagpur or Shibpur engg college and Botanical garden... ISKCON temple Mayapur etcetc and then surely travel to Darjeeling and Sikkim....
