If you practice just what you saw in this video you´ll never be fast like Ben did. Notice that when one finger is stretched out the next one has to be bent and this requires exercises to educate the fingers to be able to flex naturally and at the right time sure this is work for many years. This Ben didn't say because the secrets are paid for and he doesn't give them away for free

Question:When I practice the rolling Rasgueado (~ 2:10), where I fire from index to pinkie, I’m getting more of the Iron Maiden horse’y rhythm than that fantastic rolling rhythm you get. Are you strumming back with the index finger post pinkie strike? Or, maybe I haven’t got enough speed yet. Your videos are incredibly instructive. Thank you!
@BenjaminWoods6 жыл бұрын
the very last stroke of the rolling pattern is an upstroke with the index (on the next ONE beat). glad I could help
@GrahamAndersonis6 жыл бұрын
Ben Woods Thank you:) Question: if you are doing chuggy triplets for metal/thrash in 4/4, are you forgoing the pinkie downstroke? Is it an index down stroke, middle down stroke, ring down stroke (per beat)....with a finishing index upstroke on the One? If not, what sequence do you use? Your hybrid style is inspiring. So much fun.
@BenjaminWoods6 жыл бұрын
Triplets: either index middle ring (all downstrokes) repeat, or Index down, middle down, index up, repeat. THis is how I do it, though it may not be the 'traditional' way

Question, I keep compromising my thumb on the down stroke when I do it over my golpeador, when I do it over my fretboard I'm fine, what van I do besides obviously practice, it frustrates the hell out of me. Love the video's bye the way, big thumbs up.
@TheGoombaslayer6 жыл бұрын
Dirk Jan Klijn I can do tremolo, these fan strokes and some other ones and I can play non of them over the sound hole. for some reason i can only play them at the fretboard. Its fresturating but ice learned to do some very cool tapping sounds with the rolling triplets by tapping my thumb and brushing my fingers against fretboard and body
@dirkjanklijn99496 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul for your answer, it seems I'm not the only one ho has a problem with this, ideed when over the fretboard you can make some nice tapping sounds, I'll keep working on them, aybe one day I can play them anywhere I like
@lebulkEnjoy7 жыл бұрын
Do you actually need long nails for it or is it possible just with the fingertip?
@BenjaminWoods7 жыл бұрын
You do not need long nails, although it helps if you kiss the string with the nail tip. The fingerstyle players do amazing things on their steelstring guitars without any nails at all. I use nails for these techniques. This series is a demonstration of how I do things. Not the ONLY way thats possible. There are many ways and I encourage you to use what works best for you.
@lebulkEnjoy7 жыл бұрын

@abrahamcervantes76497 жыл бұрын
You don't need nails but it will hurt quite a bit if u play without them but don't play on a steel string won't have the same sound and it will tear your fingers to shred
@surrurgabbara13786 жыл бұрын
I tried also to find some flamenco lessons in Germany but there's nothing where I live, Ben wood is the best! You don't need nails if you just started go without them. Einfacher 😉

Is it a mistake if we go index first insteas of pinkie ? Pure flamenco players will maybe say that but i feel way easier to do it ur way .. @benwoods
@BenjaminWoods4 жыл бұрын
Well I'll tell you, I have always went Index first. However it's true I have had some strange looks from Flamenco players and luthiers especially when in Spain. But I worked hard and can get the same sound. If you want my advise, just work on pinkie first, then you dont have to worry about that. I've never cared what people think though so I just do it Index first, which is one of the ways the maestro Juan Serrano did it (he could do them all though). Good luck!
@louisramos14284 жыл бұрын

The thumb goes up twice, both times, it hits the soundboard first before hitting the strings. It can be quite painful though when you accidentally hit the skin and not the nail.

At 2:04 the "rolling version" of the abanico, is that just pulling the pointer back before you finish, and effectively just doing 4 out flicks but continously? or is there a pull back in there. Amazing series by the way, always loved flamenco guitar, play with a pick and rock fingerpicking rn but growing out my nails and starting to get the hang of the new style!

I just realized you probably were told to do the 4 stroke pattern first because in the dancing portion of it the beat counting changes. So it's 1-4-7-10 so it's the 4 stroke leads from beat 1-4 and the triplet twice ends 4-7
@hawiiboy1114 жыл бұрын
Ends 4-10*
@jgrossma7 жыл бұрын
On Juan Serrano, he could probably do any rasgeado you asked him to, but I think the one is is most known for is i-c-a-m-i. Seems like the one you like is i-m-a-c-(i). You both start with "i", but yours is still "backwards" (NTTAWT)! For what its worth, there are MANY different variations on this: Some lead with the little finger (c), some with i. Some completely avoid c including a number of well known modern players. Some like cycles that include an up-and-down with i, some do all downstrokes to get a drum-roll like sound (Sabicas was known for that). Some like 4 stroke cycles, some like 5. Some snap the fingers against the thumb "spitball" style to get more force/projection, etc while others keep the fingers relaxed more like a free stroke. Etc. I think this really just comes down to personal preference. As long as you achieve a clean, regular, fast and loud sound, with the rasgeo in a way that makes musical sense. you're OK. IE, if you can do it without hurting yourself, and it sounds good, it *IS* good!
