I completely agree with you; this game is incredibly frustrating. If we're finding these bugs within the first few days of its release, how could the developers have missed them? With just a few minor changes, this game could be amazing. It's unbelievable how they mess it up every single time!

The sprint train bug is absolutely crazy, like they didn't test a sprint stage a single time ???
@stanleyrosella70427 ай бұрын
Appreciate you did this video. It help me see things a Lets Play might miss. That feature where you could see who won the different KOMs and sprints during the race was an important factor, taking it away is crazy. I was hoping to expand on it the old one, since when the race is done in the past you can't see who won the different sprints and KOMs that was during the race. Only the the final points for the stage in the result page. So they made this even worse. Shame on Cyanide. You're right that some things are really gone from old times. I miss the more detailed way to set up tactic before the race, and wished that more detail setup back. Maybe some improvement. Like picking out your sprint train, and who will you watch, other team or other rider, so a road captain can act while I sit in the car. It's a manager game so maybe less hands on, like on a sprint. Adding a roadcaptain stat that of course increase with years for cyclists could be my teams AI in-game. Cyanide need to learn how to setup economics for sure. You are spot on that Benji.

This makes me so sad to read. I played it a decade or so ago and never understood how to play, but recently got the 2023 edition on sale. After actually learning how to play, I'm having sooo much fun with it, but also there are soooooo many small flaws in it that I just don't get how that could get through to a published version.
@Legionarivss3 ай бұрын
@@HastarlThere's a lot of players who year after year keep buying it. Myself for example well over a decade. The game is certainly fun, but if you take in consideration that they haven't updated for I believe the engine since 2011. If other elements of the game would be extremely good that's acceptable but if you than just look at the career mode up to PCM23: - financial system has been underwhelming to lets say awfully made - transfer system is terrible, you never have competition from other riders & riders don't want to leave -sponsor selection was god awful and random. If you started with a small team your budget would run out and you would have to pick a team out of for example Brunei who would all of a sudden pay more. - sponsor goals awful - making your season program for a 30men squad takes ages with half the races not being available until later. So you need to do it all over. - training system is quite simplistic - not possible to make small nations grow due to not being able to get into pro conti without signing a foreign legion. Due to a system that requires a rider to win a world tour race. Which you can't get invited to if you aren't pro conti. And as the database gets yearly better riders all teams get better and you won't get a 4.5 ster squad if you have level 1-2 facilities within 6 seasons. And the list goes on and on. If you look at Football Manager, that's a game with a way bigger budget obviously but you could literally take a bunch of their features and implement it into the game. You don't have to reinvent the wheel. There's literally single developers that have done more in two years than the whole Cyanide crew has done for PCM in 10 years. Okay maybe they haven't got the biggest budget and not the greatest developers. But literally if you get: Benji, Decathlon Gamer, KillRob and some others together and you ask or even pay them to have some brain storming sessions a bunch of times. You can make this game easily 10x better with the same bloody engine. And it isn't as if they're charging €15 for the game either at release. For half fabricated games they ask full price €39,99. For a game that almost every edition at release has some major flaws. This edition sprinters not sprinting while being behind their leadout. Editions before it was corners that were broken. Also for several editions the KOM/climbers sprinting point is broken, with a 74 in hill, mountain and Medium mountain I would get beaten by 65 in all every time even on very easy difficulty as the player is programmed to lose. Even with a 85+ I lost which shouldn't even possible. While I play at extreme difficulty.

I still remember dual-sponsorships from PCM 2011, so it's cool they've reintroduced it, but you can add this to your list of reintroductions. I wonder how the game will handle jerseys with dual-sponsorships. The prospecting page looks cool too, and I agree with you on the happiness about other races. The facilities are really cool. And the sprints, yes. It's definitely the same in 2023 (not that it makes it any better). They should look into that. I'm fairly sure the gravel stuff was also in 2023. I've had strong cobble/downhill riders handle Strade better in that game than my puncheurs. I agree on the feature itself.

I wish they would skip 1-2 release years, just release a DB update and use that time to change engine. It is painfully obvious that the engine is so full of legacy that it is way to hard to iterate on. It is time to give the community something better, but sadly thats not the way game-dev world works.
@Hommeles907 ай бұрын
Hey Benji, great content and fully agree. I'd rarely use sprints in my team/pro cyclist because of the broken sprinttrain system that's there for years. Other flaws that are there for years is the crazy fast development of talents (havent tested it so far this year), not being able to attract sponsors based on the nationality of your riders and it's always way to easy to win certain stages with flat finishes close after hills (one stage in the Saudi Tour you can always win by pushing on the last hill, AI cant find a way to counter this). But the biggest problem of all is that there is such a lack of visibility of the devs themselves. There is quite a community but I dont see them making their own video's and interacting with customers.

Did they make it easier to manually manage rider training/fitness in career mode? In PCM 2020 you could do it in the planning screen, where you could also see rider fatigue. In 2022 you could only do it in the rider objective screen, so only 1 at a time and no view of current fatigue. I can kinda see the logic of removing the ‘noteworthy’ non-sponsor objective results, because these now contribute to the season objectives? By removing them it shifts the balance back in favour of the objectives which makes sense. But I agree in the case of really big results like monuments and GTs there should still be some added effect. Removing the sponsor feedback on team composition is a big loss for immersion too

In career mode it's still basically impossible to build a nation that has like 1-2 training facilities. As getting training structures up is impossible unless one of your nation's riders rides world tour and gets a victory there. With no real talent coming through to be strong enough over time to make pro conti with national riders. Example in PCM23, I've gained with a Chinese team in 5 seasons: 2023: 23 wins 2024: 53 wins 2025: 62 wins 2026: 92 wins 2027: 88 wins (august) 318 wins and probably 240 of them Chinese victories. Lyu Xianjing had: - 95 wins - 10x 2Pro GC win - 18x 2pro stage wins - 9x 2pro mountain jersey - 8x 2pro sprinters jersey - 2x national champion - 1x 1pro The point is I could literally win those races a hundred times more and I get nothing for it. It does absolutely nothing! While Ecuador has now structures 5 and popularity 7 due to Carapaz winning world tour stages. I literally can't get into Continental Pro as my riders aren't good enough to make it. Because stars depend if you make it to Continental Pro&World tour. Despite that I'm as China the 15th ranked country in the world & the 12th team in the world rankings, well above any pro conti and also well above some world tour teams. I will never get an invite to a world tour event and due to that will never get my training facilities up. This hasn't been changed in 2024 either. Really disappointing! Especially for a game which hasn't seen an engine update in well over a decade now? You would think they would at the very least try to make the best out of the game, rather make it a cash cow and keep milking it. Over the backs of the players who keep playing it because they love cycling.

Hi Benji, grateful for this detailed video and for you to be back on PCM in such an uncertain period. Cuz I guess that your voice matters a lot and it's very well deserved. Pcm2006 was indeed a very solid and enjoyable version, I wish they would just realize this and kinda duplicate it to the existing engine or new one even. • Sprints in these old versions were actually so great. Okay there were no HTC-highroad's like trains, but you could still be active in the last 3km, trying to jump from wheel to wheel, optimize the drafting, and launch the effort at the best possible moment. And of course there were no sprint killing 90° turns back in time. So basically we used to feel more in control and surprisingly the results were even more realistic anyway! 💁♂️ • Speaking again about old stuff, do you remember when there were cyclists real faces in the game? Of course it was a bit ugly but still remarkable. Nowadays I think we can still find the faces folder but of course it doesn't work. And well, on PCM and TDF most of the riders look like Greipel with even more muscles. Realism also goes through this... Besides, I got some development ideas that I'd love to share but I'm just an invisible viewer 😅 Sent you an invite on IG Thanks Benji!

My main issue so far is that I spent a whole season focusing on objectives to please my sponsors and they turned around and offered me a far LOWER contract. I passed & exceeded every single objective and was on course to meet a happiness score of 150 for both sponsors and yet they don't think i'm worth their time. Why focus your new release on sponsors if it's half-cooked and the game doesn't actually reward you for meeting objectives? It rewards mindless sponsor hopping for whoever offers the most money In general I also can't stand the transfer point system, why should you have to commit a limited amount of points just to see what a rider wants? In the early seasons where the point prices are inflated a failed negotiation can absolutely devastate your whole save & leave you in a position where you don't have enough points to actually spend your money. Didn't think too much about the sprints but you're 100% right, if my leadout is quite fast then I often actually see them beat my dedicated sprinter due to their loss in momentum. In general I feel there are certain stages which are far too easy to cheese; if there's a steep hill near the end of the stage then the AI can't deal with your team being aggressive & will simply sit back whilst your team punches up the steep gradient and causes a split, there was a race in the tour down under where my riders represented 6 of the top 7 in a "sprint stage" because of this. Milano-Sanremo is also a guaranteed win by using the exact same repeatable tactic as in last year's game. Ultimately I think the game suffers from the niche it occupies; cycling will never be as popular as sport like football, baseball or F1 so these games just don't have the demand to fuel a great degree of innovation. For a better game we will likely have to hope that the actual sport underneath it becomes more popular.

Haven't played it since 2018. And don't think I will buy the 2024 as well. Like you said there are too many good things gone while they implement something new. So for me It still is the same game as a couple of years ago.

Sprinting is the worst ive ever seen this game. They just brake after launchin their sprint out of the wheel of another rider. Its so bad ive been simulating every sprint race now.

And it's still not as outdated and update-lacking as the Tour de France playstation game 😅

Normally, with these poorly developed and squirted out asset flips you could argue that you're playing them because atleast they update visual enhancements, with this series they all look identical, there is no difference period. You're basically paying for a inferior game every year.

So basically, not worth upgrading from 2020...again.

with a proper investment and some actual thought into 2025... this could become a great game... I wont be buying '24 and honestly have give up on the whole series. Secondly the console version actually looks quite good.... has all development gone in that direction?.................

Benji you completely missed how shallow the new sponsors really are... Theres no multi year deals, except the ones hardcoded in the database, and you never get an "offer" from the sponsor you have, meaning theres never renewal. After you play out the sponsor contract you start with, you are forced to change sponsor and jersey every year... If you are doing some kind of small nation with few sponsors you will never get the sponsor from the country basically. Also the riders you have on your team no longer seems to matter for sponsor confidence, so you could have an american sponsor with a full french team and no downsides etc

I purposely kept it to the points I’ve been able to explore thusfar but I’m happily making a follow-up video when I arrive there. :)

Pro cyclist is broke too. Every year it's the same stuff and they take months to roll out the update

Same game, different title. Im done with it.

Honestly, I don't like the facilities much. Parts of this could be personal (like hired mechanics) and equipment (afaik it didn't do anything in 2023).

All Pro Cycling Manager have problems and the company never solve it , years pass and the game almost dont get new features , the years pass and the game is more or less the same.

Unexperienced development team with not enough money, sad to see this game going down.

I stopped playing this game after PCM 2010. Eventually picked up the '22 version on sale - and it was still basically the same game. Still the same weird 'elastic' peloton behavior, where if you go to x8 speed or whatever your group may randomly snap on a steep hill/downhill - but when you run on x1 nothing happens. Still way to easy to put your six mediocre-ass riders in like the top eight. Still the same ugly af "glowing" shaders and empty surroundings. Feels bad man 😒
