I'm so glad an accomplished musician is proud to rep for FL Studio. Whenever I talk production with casuals and pros alike, the conversation always takes the "bro you need to try Ableton" route smh they seem to believe FL can only operate Sytrus and stock legacy drums lol

I was working on Kinect integration at the time and when Kinect died as an independent thing and nothing really replaced it, coupled with the costs of AL, I kind of put the live integration thing in the back of my mind until, well, now. Seems it's time to refresh my view of the DAW landscape again. I'm not quite set up to receive that component in my toolchains yet but when I get there, it's great content like Benn and others that will make my first guess a pretty high confidence of being my best guess (until I learn more, but that requires hands on and time invested).

Yep...I KNOW there are "better" DAWS, and I've tried them and I simply can not make music in them. 😊 And when I get hit with inspiration, I need to be able to get shit going and so I end up falling back on FL. And now I can do everything I need in FL, and very fast, so no need to move to another DAW.

I switched after 8 years from FL to ableton and I feel there is is a substantial improvement in ableton from a workflow standpoint that yields more creative results. I think having a solid foundational understanding is important but the way a program operates creates different results.
@SB04182 жыл бұрын
Majority of the time, probably yes. But some cases, like me, learnt differently. I started with Ableton then went to logic and then went to FL and found FL to be easiest and it wasn't my first. Edit: And I spent quite a while with each DAW so I know how they work since I had to learn them.

Yessssssss! As an FL Studio user, I've been struggling to find the right midi controller. So many of the great midi controllers out there are built for every DAW under the sun except for FL. Novation take my moneyyyy......! (P.S. If you make one with premium bits, polyphonic aftertouch, etc, you can have more of my money, so uh.... do that, please.) I didn't know about scripting interfaces for any midi controller though, that sounds awesome, thanks for mentioning that! I will toss it out there that my only other gripe with FL Studio is recording. It's super easy to let your project get messy and out of control when recording multiple takes. I don't know how much better (or worse) other DAWs handle that workflow, but other than that, FL Studio is great for me!

This is somewhat unrelated to the video but I'm extremely happy to find someone who has one of their projects built into FL making KZbin content as well as being active. Most of the other guys from the mid 2000s - 2010s I've looked into have completely disappeared.

That is such a cool keyboard - and probably the best demonstration and presentation of any DAW controller on KZbin ever. My guess as to why it's cheap is, Novation took two of their Launchkey mk3 midi controllers, (which were designed for Ablleton Live), recolor it to slate gray, and give them firmware for FL, so all they were paying for is the software modifications and a different color plastic; the hard parts, (design and machining), have already been done. :)
@normanlove2222 жыл бұрын

And by the way, I saw your review on the Akai MPC61, and mine was on back order and when I saw your video and why I really didn't want to buy it, I went and changed my order to the MPC-X. I just stumbled on your video about Uli B and the tribe and now have come to like your videos, your articulate and so fare consistent in your spoken positions on various subjects. I don't subscribe to any ch, or ill say I rarely subscribe with any intent of returning, But you have my returning ear. Good job man, I'm going to binge on your videos while I check out FLS as I've been an AVID HD PT user since the farm card days and so you know the kind of cash outlay I have been through over the years, and I have had it up to my wallets neck with AVIDS crazy licensing structures and insane pricing and even more insane support system. So we have shed ourselves of all AVID hardware AFTER THIS LAST MOVE TOI A FULL-ON SUBSCRIPTION BASED system, I personally believe it will spell the beginning of the end of this once monopolizing company. So my reaction was to stop giving them any more of my money, and I want to stop so badly, But I need a relatively smooth transition to the next DAW, I know there will be a learning curve, no biggy, But as far as features and edit tools and one thing that comes to mind is the engine on the HDX cards, there is a tangible effect here where it's not all just software, so I'm concerned about how that will play out with the absence of the cards. IO do know this ill have gained some PCIe slots, what would be just perfect if a software company would figure out how to utilize AVIDS hardware benefits inside their own software, OH man I could keep my card and dump PT and say so long AVID, like they would even care. they could give two shits about me being a loyal customer for over 25 years since day One . And I have been a willing participant to myself being extorted in some ways with my playing along with the crazy cost points of the hardware-software $ it has felt like in software updates and version updates especially, it's been a constant thorn in my side that has become more irritated in the last 5 years. So I have shed myself thus fare of the two C24s then Live desk or controller, and various other hardware items, some extra HD I/O's SYNC, MIDI interface etc.. all gone and I'm now down to just the software 2021 version, that I still hold a perpetual Licence for stemming all the way back to version 3.1, still hold and use three S1's and a DOCK that's it. I have been looking for something I can realistically move to and at some point dump AVID 100%, And it's a difficult step as I have clients and overlapping productions that is or are moving between my room and other rooms fitted with PT. I'm an old analog guy so for tactile reasons I need faders, and pan knobs in front of me when mixing. so I know that there are finally a host of other controllers out there that I can only suspect will interface with FLS, If they do cakewalk or DP or Studio One or AVID even, I've never given FLS a serious consideration having somehow lumped it in the same boat as REAPER for instance, Perhaps unfairly and so I will start with an open mind to FLS starting today, for some reason, years ago I had done this and not looked back, but after seeing your video I'm downloading now and will give it some real-world consideration. So anyways Hello Benn, I'll be around and commenting. thanks for the time it takes you to script your content to research and think it through, all the production and behind-the-scenes work does not go unnoticed brother. JTH Seattle

FL STUDIO USERS: how do you guys do your expressions with kontakt instruments? I have a oriental strings library, which has “heart of violins” expression (Crescendo Decrescendo). Linking Midi cc11 to the mod wheel is suppose to do the job, but the way fl studio is, it doesn’t work as it should. When i link the cc11 it just does the regular dynamics like how it would be with orchestral libraries. I'm extremely happy that Image Line and hardware makers are slowly starting to produce things that integrate better with FL, but can we have something more than a tiny controller, and god forbid can we have Aftertouch. Why not bring some well needed integration to the SL MkIII, Novation's flagship controller? I was just about to buy one until I started realizing the headache I would have to deal with getting it to work half decently with FL. Don't get me wrong, I like the portable form factor for it's utility and I think it's a very attractive piece of kit.

I've had nothing but hell getting aftertouch working with FL lol. Never had any luck getting either of my controllers working with it sadly, and I'm not about to start learning python just for that lmao
@alteredworks2 жыл бұрын
@@kishinslayer2228 Right?! There was a setting somewhere to enable it, the same way the pitch bend and mod wheels do not work automatically (WHYYYYYYY?) and have to be assigned. You can do the auto link to aftertouch, but you have to have the key depressed and held down first and then apply aftertouch pressure after you link it. Otherwise it just links the individual key to whatever knob you've mapped it to. It's also irritating because when you do map it, it's always the full 128 level range making it almost useless for assigning to a filter. No pressure, sends a zero value. There's a way to limit the range using an automation clip that I haven't tried, but what a pain. If you have poly aftertouch, forget it. It treats it all as channel aftertouch and it freaks out if more than one key of pressure is triggered. Meanwhile all the other popular DAWs are now supporting MPE.

@@kishinslayer2228 It's bizarre that my controller and all my hardware synths communicate perfectly fine with each other, but in FL it's some sort of enigma. I can go to the Current Project> Remote Control> Omni Channel Pitch and set it there and then it behaves as it should, but why on earth should I ever have to do this? I literally just ordered and KeyLab MkII that should be here Monday and I know I'm going to have some fighting with it.
