The thing with the song placement in this album is that like a prism, first, you need all the colors in order to get the light, that's why all the fun songs are in the first half of the album and the more subtle, personal songs are in the end. One of my fav ones is "it takes two" from the deluxe edition!!!

To talk about theses songs historys: -''Birthday'' was inspired by the first album of Mariah Carey, the vocals of Katy in this song was inspired by the voice of Mariah Carey at his debut self-titled album. - ''Walking on Air'' was a 90's House song oriented. She write the song after she hear ''Finally'' by ''Cece Penniston'' in radios when she begin in the studios that and she talk about that at Max Martin when she put her feet in the studios. It's was recording the next day. -''Unconditionally'' was written after a travel for social humanity in Africa in 2012 who she was touched by the love of childrens for her mothers depist amost no money, so she written a song about unconditionnal love. It's was katy personal favorite song of the album. -''Dark Horse'' was unexpected success after she organised a vote between this and ''Walking on Air'' for the release in promotional single in Itunes before the album came out). The public choose ''Dark Horse'' for promotionnal single in Itunes and the download was so huge after it's came out, at the point who the radios started to playing this song depist the fact that ''Unconditionally'' came at the second single of the album (after ''Roar'') and climbing the charts. The radios playing so much ''Dark Horse'' at the point of the song eclipsing ''Unconditionally'', inciting Capital Records to released ''Dark Horse'' has the third single of the album because of his huge success in radios. The song was n.1 in US before a music video was shot. -''International Smile'' was written for her close friend, the DJ Mia Martini (it's also indicated in the booklet). She travel the world and she put her shine and her smile everywhere who she coming, so Katy made her song for her close friend. -''Ghost'' was about her divorce -''By the Grace of God'' was about her suicidals idea and her depression she suffer after the divorce. And easy to react the deluxe edition (with the ballads ''Spiritual'', ''If Takes Two'' and ''Choose Your Battles''), because the three bonus tracks adding a lot of the context of the album. The deluxe was better then just the standard (i have the deluxe edition of the album in CD). Because the second half was all slow and mid-tempo ballads who you enters in her most personals songs of the album (like ''Ghost'' and ''Choose Your Battles'') while the first half (1-8) was more radio-friendly then the second half (9-16). Besdes, outside the horrible and trash ''This is How We Do'', i like the songs of this album. ''Walking on Air'' and ''Unconditionally'' was in my top 3 of favorites song of Katy (the other was ''Last Friday Night'') and thses two songs was played almost all the times in my home.

''Dark Horse'' is to date her final n.1 single (she have nine n.1 singles in her career in US with the three first albums) of her career. She making the video when it's was already n.1 in US and the video was released at the same time who ''Happy'' by Pharrel Williams replaced ''Dark Horse'' at n.1 after ''Dark Horse'' spent four weeks at n.1,

I think you might feel the track placement of PRISM better if you listen to the Deluxe Edition. As you can notice, all of her banger tracks are in the first half of the album (from Roar to International Smile). The second half (from Ghost to Choose Your Battles) is full of slow and mid-tempo tracks. My favorite tracks are It Takes Two and Unconditionally

This album is so skipless. I think all of Katy’s albums are too good to be consider bad. Even Smile, despite being bad mouthed by many, is such a good album. Personally, Witness and Prism both tie as my #1 favorite albums by her. Fun Fact: I Miss You More from Witness was intended to be on this album, but it didn’t make the final cut. Katy didn’t want to leave the song out, so she placed it on that album. I wish she placed it on this album since it shares a similar theme, but I also feel like it was therapeutic for her in a way having it on Witness (Save As Draft would feel so out of place without I Miss You More tbh, lol)

To me it feels like Birthday and International Smile could have been in Teenage Dream. Legendary Lovers is great but it sounds close to Dark Horse in the vibe so I guess that's why they didn't release it. Walking On Air clearly should have been a single. It's not my favorite album but there are some very good songs

International smile is about her close friend! Ofc legendary lovers should’ve been a single. Ghost is about her marriage breakdown after she got sent a text asking for a divorce on NYE. By the grace of god is about her suicidal thoughts after the divorce. It’s often said the album has side A and Side B due to different moods
