I wonder how it handles snow melt & salt runoff from cars above. I noticed a lot of fastened girders with what looks like corrosion resistant coverings, but it's hard to tell. 1000's of cars a day in during winter dripping salt laden water onto vehicles below and the support systems.
@InuKun20085 жыл бұрын
Well, since Tokyo doesn't use road salt, that's not an issue. In reality, Tokyo doesn't treat the roads after a snowfall. The snow just packs down until it naturally melts, with the city restricting road traffic to vehicles with chains until it's melted. The city only gets 9.5 days of snow every year (in the past 75 years they've only had 9 or 10 days per year), with only a small accumulation over that entire period from November to March. There have only been 6 years in those 75 where snowfall totals have been more than 15 cm (6 inches), and so there really isn't much need for the city to pay out for clearing and treating the roads.
@Cruz4742 жыл бұрын
Road salt should be BANNED!!!
@LongLiveHelghast Жыл бұрын
@@InuKun2008 here in the UK there are lot of cars driving around that have been imported from Japan, because they’ve been well looked after over there and are usually in a far better condition than their UK equivalents. The roads here are salted pretty much any time the temperature gets close to freezing, so unless you’re prepared to pay for corrosion protection, rust will always be an issue with UK cars. With the Japanese imports, you generally don’t have to worry about corrosion.

This leaves me with many questions. What if someone forgets to put the parking brake on or the owner never comes back, i would imagine its impossible to tow a car out of there
@Name-nw9uj3 жыл бұрын
If the parking break is not applied the operator will not signal the car to be stored until the owner has done so. Also a computer program likely keeps track of all vehicles, if one is left for too long the computer will alert the operator to have it removed for towing.

If this loading and unloading system could be adapted for train cars, every train could be an auto train. Drive to the train station and board the train while your car is loaded. Get off at your destination and drive away in your own car a couple of minutes later.

John Donovan there are fully automated trains in japan
@trainzguy24726 жыл бұрын
Ever heard of an autorack train car? Many freight railroads use them to carry new cars from factories. Amtrak, America's passenger rail service, also uses these on the auto train. They have 2-3 levels and are loaded via an adjustable ramp.
@dieseldragon6756Ай бұрын
Saying that, this could be the notion that might make Motorail work in the UK. We had that years ago (When taking the train was _much_ quicker and more reliable than driving) but a large aspect of inconvenience was the load/unload process, and once cars became more reliable people abandoned the service and it was ceased. The only hold-out was the Motorail cars on the Night Rivera (Which were loaded via forklift) but with the UKs very limited loading gauge making ramps and „drive-on“ facilities difficult to implement, this approach is probably the most practical which could be used! 👍
