Down in the River to pray - Arr. Jace Wittig
not the same as the choir that sings the national anthem
Also the "oh they're above us" is referring to the soloists directly above us as we couldn't see where they were like we could see the rest of the soloists throughout the piece

Additionally its a skill they actually teach in choir, its really easy to sound messy if you dont all annunciate like CRAZY. Zoom in on anyone singing choir ever and you can see how much they have to put into making the individual sounds needed to construct the word, on top of also being on time all together

I remember this performance like it was yesterday. I was on the second to the top floor. A little ways into the song, this woman left her room and joined in. She knew the part in everything. After we had finished, she told me and my roommates about how she had sang this song before. I had assumed it was something she had sang in church maybe a year or so ago, but it turns out the last time she had sang this was when she sang in an Allstate choir in New York, about 10 years ago. That really stuck with me. Her story really showed me how music stays with you. No matter where you are or however long it’s been, when a piece of music means a lot to you, it becomes engraved into your mind, and so do the memories that go along with it.

I have always lived with music anhedonia (age 47). I'm incapable of enjoying or having any type of emotional reactions to music. My brain just hears music as another noise. I've never understood how people can "feel" music, until I watched this video. Something about this choir, singing this song, in this location, gave me an emotional response for the first time ever in my life. I got goosebumps at 1:09, and even had a few tears a few moments later. That was amazing. Because of this reaction, I quickly searched for other versions of this song and ended up with my typical response. I hear it, but I don't feel it. I even watched other videos of this choir performing different songs and had no reactions of any kind. Something about this specific performance is able to bring emotion out from within me when no other music before, or since, has managed to do so. I am utterly stunned. Thank you so much for this.

I was in a treble choir in high school and some of my best memories were singing a capella in public places like this with great acoustics. It's like a flash mob. People stop in their tracks to watch. If you sing perfectly in tune you set off overtones, notes that resound off the walls and echo back at you. It's one of the best experiences of my life, connecting through mysic that way. Thanks for the video. It brought me down memory lane!

@@Sheriden. A religion is a specific set of beliefs and practices, the Church goes far beyond that. Virtually all the people who shaped the world we live in today were/are Christians and Jews, all with different ideas, aspirations, political views, etc. Studying our history of Science, Medicine, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Business, Economics, Politics, etc gives a very broad picture to a "religion" that it often painted as very narrow viewpoint. Post modern atheists regard the Church as archaic, backwards, ignorant, etc, while failing to realize all the accomplishments of Western Civilization on which Judeo-Christian principals are built, and how said principals still affect society to this day.

Not condoning the actions of the state at the time, but certainly not the persecution story that we are constantly spoon fed via mass media. You and me both... I was part of the Institute choir under Marshall McDonald for several concerts on temple square. We did his arrangement of Hark Listen to the Trumpeters in the Assembly Hall, Tabernacle, and Joseph Smith Memorial building. I will *never* forget the harmonics floating over the men in the beginning. I knew in my head it was simply the acoustics, but my heart swore the angels sang with us whenever we were in those venues. My only regret is we never got any recordings of any of our performances.

Don’t worry, it’s not religious! Religion is man’s attempt to reach up to god. Christianity is God reaching down to man.😀
