Art's videos are great! I have been trying to figure out what the difference is between the various calibrite models without success. Art is the only one to provide a clear explanation of the differences that I have found (in this video and another he posted unboxing the various colorimeters).

Thank you Art. Excellent and informative videos! I am an enthusiast photographer and have finally splashed out and bought an SW321C and plan to buy a photo printer also though need to research this first. I am trying to decide between the X-Rite Pro and the Studio. Im in New Zealand, and we don't seem to have the Calibrite models here yet. What is the difference between the two other than the studio also profiles the printer to match the monitor? Is the Studio monitor calibration of lower quality than the Pro, and if so, how, and to what degree?

They are different type of device. I1Display Pro is a colorimeter and the other is a color spectrophotometer. Based on my testing colorimeter are better at calibrating display because of the measurement bandwidth when compared to a color spectrophotometer. If you want to do paper profiling you might want to consider the studio. But you have to remember as well that studio is a entry level color spectrophotometer and even though it gets the job done, you don't have a lot of ability to fine tune the profile.

The Calibrite Display Pro HL product page shows that it can measure up to 3000 nits. But i cannot find the max nits rating for the Xrite i1 ColorChecker Pro which is ostensibly the same but the HL on the new models may mean something like "high luminance" so I would like to confirm. Are they actually the same unit? Does the HL designation stand for for something or is it just a marketing thing? I have an opportunity to buy the Xrite i1 ColorChecker Pro from a friend and need to make a decision on this soon as I have already received a new SW272 and at the mid-grey (like around a value of 128) on a grey 8 bit ramp shows magenta and green response (shown as vertical bands on a horizontal ramp).

Edit: "shows slight magenta and green instead of grey" This shows even if the monitor is in B&W mode.

The old i1Display Pro can measure up to about 1000 nits. The unit looks the same but they have different sensor inside and between the Display Pro HL and Display Plus HL the sensor is different and also the tuning as well. HL is High Luminance. Are you using Palette Master Ultimate for SW272? If not that is the software that you should be using

Colorimeter are better at calibrating displays when comparing the two.

Im a little confused, The correct way is to use Palette Master Element for Hardware configuration (BenQ SW270C), and ccprofile for software calibration (Macbookpro screen)? Thank you very much.

Calibrate with Palette Master Element and Use the Calibration Slot to manage the various calibrations. So each icc profile generated by PME would correspond to a slot, and you should number them which slot they are. ColorChecker Display is the same as i1Display studio and no, that device will not be compatible with PME or any other properly license 3rd party software.

Because Calibrite and X-Rite Before it for a variety of reasons choose to release a fundamental starter calibration device that does not include the software that come with the advanced control as the pro counter part. The sensor inside this device is different than the pro and sensor capability would be one of the reason. Based on these reasons X-Rite then choose to not have this device as a part of their partner program where company license the drivers to use with non- X-Rite software.

@@ArtIsRight Yeah. Usually people use Calman Software to calibrate TVs. So just wanted to know how i1 Profiler works for TV Calibration. Have you ever tried to calibrate a TV using i1 Profiler. If you did how is the experience.

i1Profiler can in the instance that you are doing a calibration with a computer. So you would be calibrating the computer output, otherwise no. And not all TV can be calibrated either. The method of calibrating a TV for computer source would be the same as calibrating a computer monitor with software calibration.
