Just wanted to tell you that because of this video, I have switched to Benro :)! Excellent in convincing me, I have some Manfrotto products, and after seeing how well the Benro held your rig, that sold me into looking into the tripods, and I just ordered on. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this comparison.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Putting a small telescope on a video tripod gets a lots of risk in exact point you showed. Thanks a lot.

That was one of the best reviews I have ever seen on KZbin. I wish they were all that thorough. I just ordered the exact same Benro, which is why I searched for some reviews on it and found yours. Thanks!

Joe, this was an awesome video and surely sold me on Benro! I just ordered the monopod, and next week the S8 tripod! Shout out from Chicago!

Awesome! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge! I was thinking about buying 504HD, but now I can clearly see that it doesn't worth it's money compared to S8. Great video. Thank you! P.s. By the way, you have a great voice!

Thanks. Nice video and good looking rig! Great comparison for pretty equal products. Definitely needed for anyone who is torn between which to choose.

If I'm not mistaken, the counterbalance alone should hold your rig in position. Ideally you should need to compensate with drag. The drag is just to compensate on pan/tilt movement depending on which lens you're using.
@craiglove8 жыл бұрын
Yes they should, but not at this price point. A $10k Sachtler will do it nicely. They can only do so much for $300 ya know...
@MrRay6459 жыл бұрын
Never been a fan of Manfrooto heads either and cool video. Just wanted to add the reason heads rated for say 15 pounds can't hold a 10 pound rig like yours is the height... 10 pounds several inches above the center of gravity (COG) will "feel" like 20 to the head. if you had a fully adjustable counter balance rated for your rig weight and factored in the tall height it should stay EXACTLY were you let go no falling or returning (drop or bounce back) Its amazing how much easier smooth pans and tilts are when you have perfect counter balance and can set drag based of focal length.

Great video. Worth stressing how important it is to be able to take your hands away without worrying about a disaster unfolding. And beyond that, from a basic filmmaking perspective, having to hold the camera up as you would with the manfrotto is just a complete nightmare; that would significantly impede your ability to follow action smoothly and make good videos.

I have the same manfrotto. The benro is a great value.

Thanks for making this video! I have nothing like your rig, but the way the head works looks good! And if I buy anything smaller and lighter, features will be missing... So my camera with lens is under 1 Kg. So going by supported weight, its overkill. But going by the features, with every brand, I have to buy a head that's way over my weight it seems?

Thanks for the review. You have Benro S6 and S8 heads, how do you think, for the reportage video on 5DMk2+70-200mm+RODE VideoMic Pro+ on-camera light (total weight ~3.0kg/6.6lbs) is enough S6? Are there many pros will give S8? Is Pan Drag really useful? Thank you.

Great video dude, one question do you feels confident in the acutal sticks being able to hold a rig as heavy as yours or would a tripod like the Benro BV8 with the double legs and spreader system be a sensible choice for a heavy rig. Thanks again for the great demonstration.

How do you think, which head better Sachtler System ACE M MS or S6-S8? Thanks.
@jlippencott17 жыл бұрын
It's not so much the weight, but the center of gravity that's causing trouble. You have a rail system on top of another rail system on top of a quick release. The stack is just too tall and top heavy.
@yonoko69018 жыл бұрын
sorry fom my bad english. when you set conter balance at max + the drag on the benro s8 can you tilt and pan very fluid (the same as it is set with no drag and no counter balance)? thanks

@troyphillips10776 жыл бұрын
You didn’t balance the rig to begin with . Just saying! I still see what you’re saying but the whole rig should be balanced on the head also . It shouldn’t be solely upon the braking system. I too will probably buy the Berno head . Thanks a ton for the great video.

Excellent video. Love the live comparisons. Just curious though, if comparing apples to apples, shouldn't you be comparing the S8 to the 509HD?
@StillPictureProduction10 жыл бұрын
I was looking for this exact video because of 2 reasons: that the S8 and the 504 both carry about the same weight and cost about the same price. Why would you suggest the 509?
@InahrobeProduction10 жыл бұрын
the 509hd carries more weight, you can't compare.

Hi, I just got the H10 instead. Had a GREAT Holiday sale at BH. Thanks very much again. :)
@EvilMoneyProductions10 жыл бұрын
***** I was just thinking top model compared to top model. I didn't know Benro had one higher, the H10. Benro makes really nice stuff for the price, but the build quality is nicer with the Manfrotto heads. Benro seems to use a softer plastic. Plus, the 504HD comes in ball attachment, which is major. Not sure why Benro didn't do that. But, for the money, Benro is great.
@puddytat628 жыл бұрын
You really should not have to crank the tilt drag in order for it to hold a heavy rig..or in this case a medium rig..... the counterbalance should do the job in all honesty.
@puddytat628 жыл бұрын
I was told by a local reseller that Benro is essentially a knock off company of Mandfrotto products. Maybe that it is true but clearly from this test the S8 seems to be an improvement over a well respected Manfrotto 504HD/ Curious to see how the Benro holdsup to daily useage. This video shows a pristine unused one so not surprisingly it seems to be working extremely well. I am writing this question two years after your test so perhaps you can fill us in on how well the Benro has performed for you in the last two years.
@dnickbright8 жыл бұрын
They will say that because it is newer. We always used manfrotto and have had to replace 3 in the past 2 years. We just switched to benro in hopes that it will be more reliable
@craiglove8 жыл бұрын
I have both Manfrotto and Benro and prefer the latter. The 500AH head is fine for no frills lightweight stuff. I hated the 502AH and returned it. The spring was way too strong. Tilt lock is on the right side (?). The B7 Benro is perfect for me and my DSLR's. Excellent products for the price for sure...

Comparing a maximum setting for counter-balance of Benro and 3/4 setting of Manfrotto is completely wrong. Set Manfrotto on setting 4 and see how max is compared to max. I had 504HD holding a Kessler 8ft jib with stripped 5Dm2 and 6kg counter-balance without any major problems (it was pushing the limit, but still holding fairly well).
@wulf9gang7 жыл бұрын
virtyland 3 is the highest setting, it goes .. 0, 1, 2, 3 .. 0 doesn't actually count because it has 0 counterbalance. Plus the 504 kit is $700-800 and the Benro s8 kit is $400-550.

Dear ‘white people’ i know you think that you’re being flattering, but the choir of comments about his voice are akin to the (alleged) phenomenon of white women constantly asking to touch black girls hair. His voice is a typical african american draw, one of many, maybe from the Northeast by way of the south. Nothing exotic to see here...
