Thanks Ben, after thoroughly cleaning the exhaust vents inside and under the house (no help), I was all ready to order and swap all the parts out on my 8 yr old Cabrio but when I took the front off I was shocked to see all the huge gobs of lint clods that had grown on inside the plenum intake (other side of the lint screen). So after a thorough cleaning of that area I decided to put the dryer back together and see if that might have been the problem!? And YEP, that was it. The heating coils started working again and the check vent light never came back on. My wife says I am the man! But really Ben is the man!

Thanks! Absolutely the best DIY instructional video I ever watched. It helped that you were troubleshooting my exact model dryer! Very lucky to find both you and my dryer in the same video. Thanks again, it was the cut-out sensor that went bad, but it also needed loads of cleaning that can only be done effectively by breaking the unit down. Now running like a brand new dryer.

Simply the best how to video I have ever come across on KZbin. Very easy to follow steps with nothing left out. I followed to the letter and found my issue to be the heating element had packed up. $40 fix. If all videos on KZbin were this well put together we’d have no need for tradesmen. Thank you so much!!

By the way forgot to mention when looking for the replacement element....be careful they will charge up to $200.00 for the part. I found what I needed on Amazon $30.00 came overnight! Exact one! Saved me a ton of money with this video. Thank you again.

Thanks for the video. It makes me want to throttle the design engineers at Whirlpool. The Whirlpool I just replaced was over 25 years old. To gain access to the heating element I just had to remove 8 or so screws on the back panel. I then had access to the entire heating system to check/replace the components. Now you have to practically disassemble the whole machine! Remove the whole drum just to check the thermostat or heating element? What BS. Talk about a giant step backwards.

They simply don’t make things anymore easy to work on, they actually want to make it harder. Considering repair technician fees for the time it takes and parts pricing makes the person with a broken unit contemplate just getting a new one instead which is what manufacturers want. They don’t want you to have a dryer that lasts forever and easy to fix. Just like the ancient vacuums that don’t break, the old fridges that work like the day they were new. They all caught on that they can make more money by making products that fail over time and even more money if you make them difficult to fix.

Thanks to this video, I was able to conquer a job I could not have done on my own. My dryer is exactly like the one in the video, and its heating element is not the simplest to replace. I had erroneously assumed the element would be accessible from the back of the dryer, so I started there and quickly realized I didn't know where to find the element. A quick Google search, and I was watching this video. Watched a little ... paused ... did the steps on my dryer ... returned to video, then repeated those steps until I was done. It was awesome to be able to definitively diagnose my bad element with a multimeter before actually installing the new one. I knew I had corrected the problem before I ever put it back together and had confidence it would produce heat when called upon to do so. I really appreciate the assistance that allowed me to do this myself and save probably hundreds of dollars. Thank you!

Finally found the right video!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU so Much. My model number on my Whirlpool Cabrio is WED8900BC0 for those that are interested. If you are just trying to test and replace the Thermal Fuse then fast forward to 6:39 to learn how to take the front off. You don't have to disconnect the control panel on top to get to it. And you don't have to take the drum out to get to the fuse. Then fast forward to 11:20 to see how to test the fuse. If it is bad, then replace and enjoy dry clothes. Also have fun cleaning out all of the lint in there!

Great guide! I decided to test my electrical first. I I was unable to test for 240v with my analog meter, so I used a digital one and found the outlet is working appropriately. I changed out the breakers though as they didn’t have the connector to switch off both breakers at the same time (maybe I could’ve bought the connector in hindsight?) I followed the whole guide in order. The thermistor wouldn’t read at all with my digital but it did with the analog reader. Ultimately, I found the heating element was bad, but also found that the idle pulley tension arm plus the belt needed to be replaced. It all took my about half a day and $80 in parts and cleaned out all the lent. The belt is awkward to get on like the video shows. When I turned it back on there was a slight burnt smell for about 5 min, seemed to be just from cleaning. Working again! It’s weird that my washing machine completely gave out about 2 weeks ago and now this.. I decided to get a new speed queen Tc5000 - not disappointed

Excellent video! I was able to check all the stuff under the drum without taking the drum out. The drum can be propped up/in with a length of wood, and all the connections can easily be reached. I checked everything in your video, and after all that, it turned out one of the two breakers feeding the 220V had tripped...the one that the machine needs to heat the air...

Although mine is gas dryer, this was an extremely helpful video - THANK YOU 🙏🏼 Unbelievable how packed full of lint these things get! I’m sure my high temp sensor is bad because there’s evidence of a smoldering fire in mine yet it’s working with intermittent heat issue. (& a good thing it required attention before we had a full-blown fire!) If cleaning alone doesn’t solve my problem I’m guessing it’s going to be the usual culprit, a bad gas igniter. I just can’t comprehend the fact I have to take that bulkhead apart to get to such a high maintenance component!

Sadly, many brands have gone to a more "Elegant" 1pc front that does away with any hope of a service access panel. Which is a shame because it'd be SO helpful on a unit like this.

Awesome homeowner video! Was able to quickly diagnose a bad heating element. Thanks for sharing the location of the tech data sheet under the control panel. I had to dig out my Robertson bits (square head) to get the console off. This is only the 2nd time I have run across that style screw. looking for manuals that’s not one the popped up. Interestingly, I got a diagnostic code F 31 which is not supposed to be a code for my model. Whirlpool refers you back to an L2 error. Thanks for the tip using a putty knife too. In the past I would have shoved a flathead screwdriver between the pieces. The putty knife slide right in and was long enough to depress the clip all the way.
