I got the 200 level stack in 2022 when I brought my home. The folks that flipped the house only gave the smallest area for a washer/dryer to go. When I was shopping for laundry systems this was the only thing on the market that would fit I. This very specific tiny space. Since I got it it's been going strong with no issues & I've hyped it up so much other family members got it too. I'm glad my purchase 2yrs ago has your stamp of approval. I bought one in May 2023: it’s been running great! Notes for potential buyers who plans to push this into a small laundry closet like I did: 1. Buy a longer 240V cable (3- or 4-prone): recommend ~10 ft. 2. Buy longer water hoses: recommend ~8 ft. The reason is simple: you need these cable/hoses long enough to install them before pushing the whole thing into the cramped space LOL.

It's funny you mention about Lowe's delivery not knowing how to hook these up (especially the heat pump version), after the second DLHC5502 I sold got hooked up without the rubber cap on the unused drain port, I started handing out a "DLHC5502 INSTALLATION NOTICE" leaflet to customers and instructed them to present the leaflet to their delivery team. In it I had photos and warnings about the importance of the rubber cap on the unused drain port, and had instructions in both english and spanish just in case lol. Since then, I notice LG has started shipping the DLHC5502 with a warning paper about leaks from uncapped drain ports, and they're also shipping them with *both* ports capped from the factory instead of both ports uncapped and a loose cap in a plastic bag inside th dryer... so that's a huge improvement from LG on this. haha

Ha ha. Nice catch! I noticed it literally 15 seconds after unboxing, but my issue was sheer confusion: It looked like it was a secondary drain which freaked me out to understand which was the right one. Glad I wasnt the only one!

I had this set (with the Turbo wash and steam for drying) for a year, very happy with their performance . I like the big drums , you can put a large load with no problem. The only problem I ran into was the installation on a second floor. The machines are very heavy and bulky to maneuver in stairs and corners but thanks to two good installers the process went without problems . I had to upgrade the dryer exhaust to rigid metal tubes. The plastic flex corrugated hose was not allowed by the installers Very informative video , I always wanted to know how to service these machines if needed

The WashTower is the best laundry center/stacked laundry set on the market. I haven’t seen any major issues. The conventional top load laundry centers from GE and Whirlpool have small capacity and poor wash performance. These LGs are really well built and the electric dryer models are made in Clarksville TN.

I think the fact they are so much more ergonomic. Much shorter than a std stacked separates and ease of location of buttons. Only risk I see is I can't just replace the washer or dryer separately. If repair parts become unavailable then will be stuck replacing both. And the green color is amazing.

appliance tech here. i’ve had two service calls on these since these came out. first was main pcb. second was an error code for constant unbalance when it went into spin. i never ended up doing that repair but i was trying to figure it out and i think most common issue was the moisture sensor? it was a very unusual problem

A repair guy in the area recommended one of these. It's been excellent and the AI wash and dry settings work very well, and make it much faster to wash and dry everything. The app is actually super helpful with reminders that a cycle is done, including that second reminder if you had not moved anything and something is sitting in the washer/dryer still. Detergent dispenser on the fancier version we have really worked great as well. We use less letting it decide how much to use.

It's nice to see they brought back the "Delay Wash" button - in the version I have, it's the "Turbo Wash" button and you can only access the delay wash in the app. I'm not sure if it's still the case, but you could only use the delay wash on one of the 5 presets (not any of the downloaded), so it was a big step down compared to the regular machines. My wife can't stand having to use the app to access all of the features.

I have like a 12 year-old LG TROMM set, that can run either side-by-side, or stacked. The dryer's controls can be relocated either top or bottom, depending on your S-b-S/stacked choice. So initially, I was a bit miffed to think (at first) that these latest LG towers are "one piece" units, and their competition models -- even though 2-piece stacked -- place the stacked dryer controls out of the reach of height-challenged spouses.

This is a very helpful video. And I’d also be interested in a comparison with the Electrolux. I currently have a unibody machine by Frigidaire (27 inch) that is 15 years old. It has been very reliable. And only last month did I have to replace the dryer pulley, belt, and bearing. My appliance guy said the machine was in great shape overall. There are some magnetic vents out there which make this unfathomably simple. You magnetize where it goes into the wall, then the end of the hose on your dryer, and when they get close they snap together. Really cool stuff!

@@DoktorJava we're planning on isolating a room with a standard tumble dryer and one with a heat pump dryer and testing to see exactly how much air/BTU gets lost by running the vented dryer. I have a mechanical engineer on tap to do the setup and calcs for us to really understand the payback period on the machines.

I made up an excel sheet ages ago that I *thought* would help determine the HVAC cost of a vented dryer but honestly it's both *way* outside my pay grade and also... just seems like the sort of thing that needs to actually be tested! @@DoktorJava for sure. The engineer is writing the document for me on how we can categorize it. What we're looking at is sealing off the laundry room, save airflow in from a nearby room while sealing off the exit door. Then running the non-vented dryer, while checking for electric usage and temperatures in both the sealed room and next-door room (I have about 16 temp dataloggers for this). Then run the vented w/ the same test. Same sample laundry load, same amount of moisture extraction. He said he'll write a formula to look at how much the delta was effected and run the calcs needed to show heat loss in both rooms due to the vented dryer, and should be able to run an effective calc from there.

Looked at them, but am still skeptical of these, should one fail and the other not. Sure for the most part parts would be available, but I still prefer two stacked individual appliances. It may not be aesthetically pleasing like these and the controls are on top, but something will fail eventually requiring replacement and if I can replace one and keep the other... I don't care if they match.

Ok. I admit I didn’t watch this whole video so hopefully I’m not out to lunch here. What most people don’t know is that the Old Standard machines are feed with one single 3 or 4 wire power cord & plug outlet. The new machines has separate power supply lines one for the washer & one for the dryer (like standard machines) and this means you will most likely need to add a dedicated 110v outlet for the washing machine. Also you should move the existing dryer plug outlet up higher on the wall to ensure the new dryer cord plugs in with no strain on the cord. Otherwise good luck with the new machines.

So strange to see a hot water port on the front load washer. Probably due to the US's 120v outlets. In my country, front loaders don't have a hot water port. They just have one for cold water because it has a heating element that heats the water (up to 90 degrees Celsius if needed and for the tub clean). Our plugs are 240v. Only top loaders have a hot water port because they use too much water, and it would take longer to heat up so much more water.

Could you please give an idea how to put this washer into a test mode? Service manual says push "Extra rinse" and "soil" buttons first and "power" after that but no luck. All other common LG buttons combinations don't work as well.

I have it filmed and quite frankly.It is a mess but I did figure it out. It's the middle option button of the 3 that let you increase/decrease the option - soil, temp, spin. Whichever is in the middle. Then to the right you have 4 options, 2 by 2. It's the lower left one of those 4 whatever its labeled. It's different on the various LGs and the manual does not label it right thus the issue.

What I would really like to know involves the TurboWash system. The little orange plastic contraption at the top of the boot is not really part of the recirculation TurboWash. Only fresh water comes from there. I saw a video where this sprayed out into the load while spinning and it sprayed directly into the drum in a V pattern. The one on my WashCombo sprays a little “pee” stream onto the load but most of the water comes out the left and right directly onto the boot and glass. Is this how it is supposed to be on the WashCombo, or is this little orange thingie defective? It makes more sense to me to spray in a V pattern onto the load of clothes.

The orange spray nozzle appears to be designed to rinse lint buildup from the door glass and gasket, although even LG's training material doesn't seem to consistently know what it's for. Only a small percent of the fill water goes to it, anyway.

The one advantage is that I can always unstack and fully replace one unit if needed. But I am also playing devils advocate and would never put a stack in a situation it wouldn't be easily serviceable. If I was having to choose for, say, an airbnb or had a closet this would be my first pick. Also, I'm super interested in how Electrolux tackled the design as well

A few years ago, my LG dryer started making a lot of noise, and the repair company I called refused to come out since it was about 8 years old. Thinking it was the rollers, I bought some from Amazon, and took the dryer completely apart, thanks to a video on KZbin for my model. It turned out that a screw holding the fins inside the drum was backed out, and all were loose. After tightening them it was quieter than it was when new, and I’ve had no problems since then.

do you recommend this over the GE all in one combo washer? I watched all your videos about the combo washers and I know you suggested the Samsung combo washer over the other 2. But for me when I saw the machines in person, I liked the GE one the most for its feel. But because of your breakdown of the GE i decided to just play it safe and get the LG wash tower 5 cu ft with the heat pump. Just bought it last weekend, waiting for it to come right now but I still have the GE combo washer in the back of my mind. Not sure if you could help me settle this anxiety. I prefer the GE because I don't want to move the clothes from the washer to the washer, but I don't want to do extra maintenance. If all I have to do for the Washtower is remove the lint from the filter, and the GE combo washer has much more maintenance than that, then I guess I'd be happy with my current choice. Also I think the Washtower dries clothes much better too from what I see. Not sure though since I never had any of these units in front of myself so thats why I'm asking you! Did I make the right choice haha or should I go back for the GE combo wash. I want the GE Combo wash but just decided to play it safe with the wash tower

For reliability? For sure it'd be better. Performance is hard to say. For 3x the price I'm sure it's going to be a little better but unless you need it to last forever I'd probably take the LG. Mind you, if you were doing an airbnb or OPL the Speed Queen would be the best idea

How's it going Ben... we talked over on FB a little while back, regarding these. From our conversation, I picked up the WKHC252HBA, from Best Buy, and received a deep discount and a 5yr extended. I just had a house built and am still dealing with that, so the unit is still with BB, at the moment, with them waiting for my call to deliver. Something you said in this vid got my attention, regarding the delivery and install, for units with a heat pump, which I assume my variant has, since it's ventless. What should I keep an eye out for, in this regard? BTW, did you hear that Nicko just retired from Maiden, after the show they just had in Brazil? I know know his health is an issue, as of late, with his recent stroke, so I understand his decision, but it saddens me that I won't see him play with the guys again. I'll see him here locally, but not with Maiden, but his health is more important.

my understanding on the 252 is there's a condensate line they have to run for the dryer, or else it leaks, and many installers totally forget this step. I've seen it on the heat pump dryer like the one I reviewed to - very straight forward to solve. I did hear about Nicko. Very sad to see him retire, but he's contributed so much to Maiden, he deserves some time off.

Any chance I could get a little help with my whirlpool washer? It recently stopped agitating during the wash cycle and instead makes a very loud whir noise every minute or so. However, it will sometimes still spin (very fastly) during a rinse cycle, but it isn’t very consistent. I have performed a reset and a diagnostics, and during the diagnostics it hardly spun and made a shrill goat-like sound (yes, weird) the few times it made a soft little spin. The error code it gave me was just for inlet water temp something F2E3 but I don’t think the issue is with the hot/cold water.

I really love LG. However, I'm seriously considering an Electrolux simply because the doors are reversable and don't require reconfiguration of cabinets. However there is a pause for thought because the with the Electrolux, there is no filter you can remove which could be a major issue. I'd like to see if in the future you could review the Electrolux and determine if the doors really are the easily reversed and if having no filter is that big an issue. Great video.

@@ktm42080 only thing I use the WiFi for is to download cycles like rinse only or whitest whites that aren’t on the front panel. That would be my only complaint- the number of cycles on the front are ridiculously small. Notifications when cycles are over are pretty sweet though.

@@washingandmowing15 ok, context. I’ve been a washing machine repair technician for almost 40 years. So from my well versed perspective front load washing machines are the most unreliable machines you can purchase. Here’s a few reasons why. Firstly their main failure point is the main seal and bearings giving way, mostly due to the mechanically stupid design of having only 1 point of contact at the rear of a deep drum where because of gravity all the weight pulls down towards the front of the drum where there’s no support at all, combined with out of balance spin forces that rear bearing most definitely will fail, resulting in throwing away the whole machine because it’s uneconomical or not possible to replace in modern machines. Then there’s the dreaded mould smell that plages most front loaders, yup the entire inside of the machine, that’s the outer side of the spin bowl and the inner side of the tub along with the door boot seal will always accumulate soap deposits which turn to putrid black mould. Fun fact this can’t be disassembled for scrubbing to clean and there’s no detergent on earth that’ll dissolve it because the soap is silicone based. Whereas a top load washing machine doesn’t fail because of these issues. Do you want more reasons ? Please ask ✌️🇦🇺👍

I HATE stackables. They will be upcharged. The old kind with the top load washer... at least you can access that while it is in situ. But these huge heavy piece of machinery... will be upcharged. And maybe be too pricey for you to want to fix. Plus... electronic controls instead of the mechanical, always breaking and their controls are always being discontinued by the manufacturer. Get a Speed Queen, with a mechanical dial. And get enough space to house them, or choose a better apartment. Yikes.

@@bensappliancesandjunk their home front load washers with front controls, they also sell laundry centre style stacks that are one unit not 2, i believe they may have sold them with timers, not 100% sure though hope this helps :)
