My wife is deaf and sells hot dogs. We found a way with dry eraser board menu's for customer in line. Works very well.

When I get a group of people ordering mutliple dogs at a time and they all start calling out toppings I pretty much gave up on remembering it all and ignore it now until I get all the dogs in buns, then I turn to the ladies first and say "ok what did you want on yours" .. then go to each of them in turn until they are all done. Don't stress over remembering all the toppings each person wants as they call it out, just work on one dog at a time and you'll be fine! If you screw up and put something wrong on a dog say, "ok no biggie I'll just eat that one" and just start over!

I use top split buns and I have this one older gentleman that comes to my cart probably twice a week, complains that I won't make it with those top split buns because nobody likes them, and even goes as far to say I'll be out of business soon if I don't switch, but he always orders 6 dogs for himself and his employees back at the office. That's been going on for Months now and I always tell him he is the only one out of the thousands of customers I have served that has complained about the buns. You can't please everyone and you'll make your own mistakes, but just keep on slingin' those dogs and makin' money!

@@BensCarts You can edit the auto-generated captions on your videos. I do it on all of mine right after I make the videos public - and it has a chance to auto-generate them. I enjoyed the entrepreneurial spirit in this video!

A great problem to have. But solvable. Pre-prep many containers of those items so you can quickly add to the rotation of service. You'll see this in the free videos at learnhotdogs.com and also in the learnhotdogs.com/day video course.

Hello to Ben and your fam / team.. Im 42 years old and a 27year vet of the kitchen world.. and Im struggling and tired of the grind for others.. I have wanted to do a chili dog stand or truck for a couple years and recently decided I was going to do it.. Ive been doing studding and research.. I have some money saved just not alot I'm on a budget.. and I either wanna build my own rig.. or find a suitable cheap one .. I like in Oklahoma city and I found a commissary already and I'm in touch with the health dept recently finding out what I need o know on that part.. I have been watching your vids and I wsh you had a slightly cheaper model for sell.. sadly it is what it is.. but I was wondering if your still thee for some advice via email? i am going to make this happen.. im excited yet very nervous about making mistakes with my savings.. id love it if I could bounce off ya some if I could,, thank you for what you do.. be well

Call up someone with a permit & see if you can lease one of their carts. Its a small cost to start dirt cheap

Yes we just started our cart and we are running in my husbands home town that is so so small so we know a lot of the people we serve so its easier for us . However we do the same we tell them the truth and make it funny . They know we are the only hotdog cart in these parts in the last 50 years so they are cool with us . We have even served our police officers . It is all good . The tip jar was a big addition to our cart and it was free lol.

The video of the guy vending made me upset. If you have or know someone with food allergies, Cross Contamination is a major problem. It's how most people get sick and possibly die if there air passage swells up and they can not breath. In my area Cross Contamination is a major NO NO by the health department. The guy in the video uses the same one utensil for everything. Each toppings should have a single utensil for each topping and never be used for anything else. I do not know why this is not taken seriously by more food services personal.

You are absolutly right! That is why I use seperate spoons and/or tongs for all my items on my cart.

Art Makepeace I do also. That was the way I was trained to do it years ago. Many overlook cross contamination and that is really not safe food handling.
