Ice. Cold. The SNK809 was my first Seiko mechanical and really got me hooked. The strap was immediately stored and thanks the abundance of 18 mm straps on the market, it's become quite the chameleon. NATO, Perlon, Leather, and Silicon straps all look great on the '809 and in nearly any color. It's a little tank of a watch with a near-cult following. Worth noting on the '809: Not only does it check the box as a Field Watch, but if you forget the diminutive size for a moment, it also passes as a Flieger Type B, pilot's watch. Granted it's a stretch, but for a guy like me with a 6.75" wrist, I'll never be able to wear a genuine 45+ mm-sized Flieger watch. So this one checks off that 'look' in my watch collection. Another point: The '809 is also a gateway to the watch modding community. Want to really customize your watches? Start here. Its cheaper than trying to get your hands on a Seiko SKX series - that ship has sailed. Watch enthusiasts should all have at least one 7S26-equipped Seiko. The Seiko 5 Series has many great styles and sizes. They require your interaction by wearing them or giving it a few 'Seiko-Shakes' to get it going. This a great watch to share on your channel, Ben. Great choice.

The SNK809 was also my first mechanical watch. I have tried all sorts of 18mm straps on it but have found that I always end up going back to the stock black strap, I think it suits it better than the rest. With the satin finish on the case I don't like putting natos with the high polish silver buckles on it, and satin buckles are harder to find. I also think natos make it sit a little high on the wrist considering the watch is small. So my preference is a 2 piece strap with satin buckles, but it's so versatile you could put anything on it. I love how the SNK809 aesthetic follows the flieger watches of WWII but also has a nod to Seiko's RAF Gen 1 in its dimensions, and even has a sort of Sinn-esque tough look to it. It's a God-tier watch.

Ice Cold! I bought an SNK809 with the bracelet earlier this year for about $80 and I am impressed. The bracelet is better than the bracelet on my SNKL43. It is the perfect size to wear out in the hot summer. The lack of water resistance isn't a huge trade-off as I have an Orient diver for that.

I am so enamored of this watch that I have two of them. The green dial on a distressed leather bund strap (to further the B-Uhr dial motif) and the red dial version on a mesh metal bracelet to give it a bit of flash. As mentioned previously, for such an inexpensive automatic watch, it is remarkably accurate and is able to take quite a beating. Hardlex is satisfactory, but it will scratch, however one cannot expect a sapphire crystal at this price point. The provided strap is rather cheaply made and will wear out quickly, nor is it very comfortable. A quick change of the strap, however, will solve that problem easily! I would say this is definitely "Cool"!

This was my first mechanical watch that was gifted to me by my mom when I graduated from college. It's been my daily driver ever since. It was my gateway drug into watches. I'm saving up for a Seiko 5 sports watch next. Any recommendations? I'm a medical student now and I'm looking for an all-rounder watch that has a better waterproof rating and can be worn in most situations. Thank you! Great video!

This watch is oh so mega-cool. I have more expensive watches with more sophisticated movements, but this is the one I keep finding on my wrist. Love the size and the looks, rugged but somewhat understated. The case's definitely field watch but the dial isn't inspired by a Type-B Flieger, as I've heard other watch reviewers say, it bloody well is a Type-B Flieger. Anyway, love this watch. I'll wear it until one of us dies and, if it's the watch that goes first, the sun won't set until I've replaced it.

I wish there was a similar looking Seiko watch between the SNK and SNZ in size.

I've not purchased one yet, but I'm sure one of these days I'll end up with an 807 on wrist. Pretty cool little watch. Great value for money from where I'm sitting.

This watch is definitely "Ice Cold" in my book. I do sometimes wish it had hand winding, but I managed to regulate it to +8 secs per day with a toothpick, something I wouldn't try with a more expensive watch. It's also easy to back hack. The B-style dial is thoroughly appealing. As you get older, life is all about minutes and seconds, and hours are of diminishing importance. I've also seen the display caseback work its charm on others. My son looked at it for about half a minute and suddenly exclaimed "wow, now I understand how watches work!" Where are you from, BTW? Manchester? Your accent is the best part of these reviews.

Major flaw: No second hand hack, no hand winding! If it had a/m feature, and call it Seiko 7, it would be great! Otherwise it’s very accurate mechanical watch!!

If the case size fits you well Seiko SNK809 has a great potential to mod it or customize: crystal, hands, movement!

I modded my snk803 with an skx009 dial and seconds hand and One Second Closer Final Fantasy white hour and minute hands. I'll eventually upgrade the movement and crystal. It's been a really fun and rewarding learning process. I think the watch looks awesome now.

Nice review. Cool. This is the first watch I modded. I must have bought and modded 15 or more of these. Used to be able to buy them for £50 delivered about 6-7 years ago . The whole idea of the recessed crown is that it's sleek and tucked out of the way, therefore not designed to be able to hack and handwind so I don't understand why some take issue with that particular element of the watch. It's a perfect watch to give as a gift to, for example, a nephew, as the display caseback entices the viewer into an amazing micro mechanical world. It's kind of a shame that all the old 7s26 seiko 5 shapes have been discontinued....the SNZH55 / 57/ 59 etc is my personal favourite of the 7s26 powered Seiko 5s......I do hope they upgrade some of these shapes to 4r36.

I bought mine for $59 brand new back in 2017-18… now they’re over $220? That is not just inflation, wtf happened

I still use mine every day for five years. I've been to the Philippines twice with it and Puerto Rico once with it. And work in a warehouse. The watch is still going strong.
