Ever Fancy a Bentley Arnage? Well then chances are you have watched my Arnage and Conti GT Buyers guide. Clearly the Arnage was the right choice for me as this Silver Tempest Red Label has been with me since just after I posted the prior video. In my prior video I already made known that I don't consider the Green Label (BMW engine) a real choice but I have softened my opinion on this over the last few years. While it wouldn't be my choice I can still see it being a brilliant stately car to own. Enjoy this view of my Arnage. It was a mechanically sound car with Miles in the 30's when I bought it. It now has over 40k miles and I am still loving it. 619 torque, sixty mph is 5.8 seconds. Silky smooth ride and a real statement anywhere you go. I would love it if you would watch, like and subscribe. Cheers !

I have had some comments or rather questions on service for this vehicle. I thought I would add some more context: In the video I mention two oil changes in 2 years of ownership. The tech I use is an ex Bentley mechanic who was trained during Arnage’s life. When he first saw my car his comment was, this thing is absolutely new underneath. When I got the car 2.5 years ago it had just had spheres, rear shocks, a window regulator, and a full major with all fluids including a trans filter and fluid. When I got the car I did do some cosmetic updates including polishing the light covers and wrapping them in Xpel so they stay clear, I also had the suroof panel painted as it had some of the common edge corrosion so common on these webasto roof seals. I don’t intend to follow Bentley’s superfluous service but rather the service I do for each of my collectibles, annual oil change, annual inspection, tri annual brake fluid and transmission fluid. The cars are kept on CTEK chargers but I would say with large spans between use I would expect a battery (or in this case 2) every 4-5 years. I also plan to replace the tires on this as they are expired by date code but have over 70% tread remaining. Hope that sheds some more light on maintenance! Cheers!

Hello from Germany Mr. Tim, with my Red Label (registered/produced 2000 model year, silver outside like yours/black leather, no sunroof), I noticed that the water temperatute arrives at the middle mark in a very, very short time, then remains there. Does yours do the same? Aside from this, I was able to cancel out the typical "ghost errors" on the dash by installing AGM batteries (starter & main sytems), should this error ever come up with yours. With kind regards and all the best for 2023, TH

@@TH-lo9ei I usually don’t drive the car until coolant is in the middle, and yes compared with my other cars it gets there quickly. I keep mine on a CTEK battery tender and I have never had any warning lights in 12k miles and 3.5 years. Feel free to stop back any time if you have a question. Always happy to try and help cheers!

Dear Mr. Tim, thank you for your quick response, which is much appreciated. I used to have a Green Label, which being all BMW (engine, transmission etc.) arrived at a middle water temperature at a BMW-typical, much slower pace. Although being technologically more advanced and lighter in Green Label form, the Red Label feels more "solid" for a lack of a better word. After taking care of some wear-items (Ball joints etc. worn out quicker due to the high weight etc.), it is a true pleasure driving this 5.2 meter car, even in twisty montainous roads. I also use c-tek battery chargers/tenders, but it could be that the charge port (right-hand upper side trunk wall) needs to be checked. Wishing you a good night, TH

Had mine for just over 5 years now. Still love it. Handles great, plenty of power, very comfortable. The shape is wonderful. I think the pre facelift are looking better than than the facelift at the moment. If people don’t like the ride I would suggest they add new tyres and get the suspension looked at. Cause a well looked after Arnage should handle well. I wish the seats were a little more supportive, better lumbar support otherwise it’s great. Average 16mpg and average £1000 per year servicing, tyres, brakes may take you to 1500. I have a local specialist RR and Bentley garage. They do recommend having the radiator redone after a certain age. Mine has featured in RR and Bentley drivers magazine twice now. If your thinking of getting one. Just do it. Get a reputable garage to do an independent survey on it before purchase and check it history. Service history is everything. Some have been poorly serviced and should be avoided. If it’s cheap it’s cheap for a reason. 20-25k will buy a really good one now. Sub 20k you need to question why? Do your homework. A low miler isn’t always better than a well used car that’s had everything done and used regularly.

Thank you very much for this review, it's my all time favorite car and when I say that, I mean Bentley Arnage Red Label, single turbo, the first couple of years of production, just as the car that you prefer and presented here. Regarding the exterior color, it should be black and the interior should be done in darker brown wood and darker brown leather, I especially like the egg shell colored gauges, the car is so perfect and unique, those who were fortunate enough to buy it new, experienced the car in all its glory. For us who were teenagers back then, buying a used one after twenty years, it's not the best choice, especially if the car is not maintained very well, so the whole experience of purchasing and owning the car becomes repulsing, given the treatment the cars had by their secondary owners. Whoever wants to own this car or any car from the past decades, should either buy it from the original owner who has taken care of it pretty well or buy a new car after considering all the aspects of the car that will suit the individual preferences most perfectly (quality, reliability, style and particularly the image that comes with it, because people tend to put you in the box with some, let's say shallow group of drivers, so you have to be very careful of what you are portraying as an owner, but if you really like the car, screw it, buy it anyway and enjoy it, because it's you and you have enough confidence to know who you are regardless of what some people may think).

J, thanks so much for watching! I’m really glad you enjoyed it. I actually just looked at my “list of cars I hope to own one day” which I made about 10 years ago. The Arnage was top of the list. I drove this car twice this week and each time was special. I honestly think it was stunning when released and even more stately and beautiful now. It’s a perfect size being as tall as most the small cross over vehicles that are so popular in the states. It has perfect proportions. Almost everyone comments on the car and most assume it is a $100k plus still. It’s so much more “Bentley” than these VW Bentleys. The end of an era. I have no doubt you will appreciate it once you attain it. Cheers and thanks for watching! I would love it if you subscribed to the channel.

Hi from Canada, Tim! I'm not in any position to buy an old beater let alone a fine ultraluxury piece like a Bentley Arnage. However, I do aspire to own an ultraluxury car someday even if only briefly. The Rolls Royce Silver Seraph is the sibling to the Bentley Arnage so my questions are these: Which one of these is easier to maintain? Which one is a more comfortable ride? Which one of these cars feels better to drive? Is the superior performance of the Arnage enough make it a consideration over the Silver Seraph? When I have my license and am financially secure enough, I'd like to daily drive one of these or at the very least drive it on the weekends. I may even switch between one of these and a sports car of some sort. I'd just like to know which one would be a better fit for an aspiring ultraluxury owner.
@TimsEnthusiastGarage
@TimsEnthusiastGarage 9 ай бұрын
First off thanks so much for watching, I hope you subscribe! It’s interesting you bring these points up relative to the Seraph as I was just speaking with a mate about it today! The Arnage over the last several years has been very reliable. Only maintenance. I recently did belts and extended fluids. The BMW bits always seem to be the bits that go wrong and that V12 is not one I would want to be maintaining. The 6.75 is old tech and very easy to live with. I like the large wheels and “look” of the Arnage far more. I like the additional gauges in the center of the dash, which are minimal on the Seraph. The Seraph doesn’t handle as well but is more isolating. The Seraph is also a bit quieter. For me, I can’t see myself ever owning a Silver Seraph especially given that they trade at a Premium over the Arnage . I hope that helps !

It is not a horse. Horses make messes. I want to know if the car will. What year is the car displayed? is it the V8 or V12 or W12? Can you still get parts for that year? It’s an 02. Purchased with around 29k miles now with 49k miles. All Arnage except for early green label cars are 6.75L V8. No 12 was offered (save for the RR seraph). I discuss most of this in the video. This car is a single turbo car. Arnage of this era had a 4 speed they later went to a 5 speed. Both transmission are robust and capable of hundreds of thousands of miles. I have a mechanic that performs services on all my cars and some of it I do personally. Most parts on this car mechanically speaking are shared with BMW or other common vehicles so there are no real concerns there. Kind regards. Good luck finding your car.

@@TimsEnthusiastGarage --- Thanks for the additional data, it makes the car make sense. I had just watched a video about an 01 continental GT with a transmission that didn't work, and parts were no longer manufactured. Rebuilt actuators disappeared very quickly, the mechanic said, and even if he could get one, he could not install it without the code that "Bentley keeps under lock and key". I see most GT's for sale used have well under 25k miles, and I am gathering a picture that they average about $10k a year in maintenance and repairs ... until parts run out. My present notion of Bentleys is that people to whom the price seems a "throw-away" keep them for a few years, maybe drive them occasionally, then sell them, or trade them, or give them away to charities.

Where would you go to fix a cracked wood interior?
@TimsEnthusiastGarage
@TimsEnthusiastGarage Жыл бұрын
it depends on the crack. If you are talking about the common hairlines that form in the poly top layer, I would sand them down to the veneer and re poly. That is a fairly straight forward task. If it is actual cracks in the veneer (this isn't super common) I would say there are two options. 1 , look at Ebay and Flying Spares, there are dozens of these cars that have been parted for scrap to do accident or other failure and most panels are similarly finished (you can find you finish on the build sheet) and replace them like that or find a local furniture maker to re veneer or mend the panel. that can be a bit hardened depending on your area.

great review. never liked the rear or the high seating position of these, same with Spirits. I saw a Blue Train edition, that almost changed my mind - beautiful spec, thanks

I have been eyeing a Turbo R. For me the Arnage exterior proportions are just perfect where the Turbo R was sort of just 3 boxes with little taper or flair. As I mention in the video, if you don't like sitting UP then the Arnage might not be for you. Thanks so much for watching and for having great taste in British cars :-) Cheers !

I recommend you drive one of each. I really didn’t like the BMW engined cars. I used to see them all the time and they always had all kinds of lights on the dash. In 2 years of aggressive driving I have never had one peep of protest from the 6.75. Thanks for watching !

@@TimsEnthusiastGarage it's definitely a little more anemic, but then again it's not a car to hustle in. It's more because I'm very familiar with the M62/5HP30 combination, having owned E38s for the last decade or so. The handbuilt and the craftsmanship aspect is what attracts me to it, even though I have a very nice V12 750iL.

@@valtercid2090 I have an 88 750il. Admittedly I am less familiar and comfortable with BMW than I am with other brands. If you have no fear than a green label could be a good match !

Hi Tim. I really enjoyed watching your review. I like how you told us why you chose to buy one and how each person has to choose for themselves, why they want to buy one. It was a nice easy relaxing watch with plenty of useful information . I will probably never buy one, but it makes me happy to think that maybe one day, I possibly might, but I will always admire them. I always been a saloon car guy, it puts me in the minority I know. It makes me sad that there are so few of them made and how many interesting saloons have disappeared, because everybody wants to sit up high in a ‘let’s pretend SUV ‘. I would never have imagined 20 years ago or even less, that Rolls-Royce and Bentley and Ferrari and Lamborghini would build SUVs. Just to sit 10 inches so higher people sacrifice so much. The extra weight, the extra money, the compromised handling and most of all the elegance. I was driving with a friend a few months ago and he saw a friend of his and asked could we give him a lift . I said sure no problem and we pulled over. This guy had never sat in a four door saloon car before. Only hatchbacks and let’s pretend SUVs. Sign of the times. From Chris in Old England.

Cheers Chris! Thanks for watching. Old England indeed. I love visiting UK, and you hit the nail on the head with tall , heavy and cumbersome SUVs that will never replace the presence and poise of a proper saloon car .

Nothing from bmw ( rolls ) and vw ( bentley ) comes close to a 2007 - 2012 Lexus LS600hL. they just arent in the same league. Your talking crap cars that will absolutely fall apart to the greatest cars ever built. Even the latest rr cullinan cant match the interior of a 4 seater LS. Exclusivity. Find me a 2010 - 2012 4 seater LS 600 anywhere in the world. owners dont part with them. Crappy old rolls and bentleys are available in their 10's of 1000's with the owners deserate to flog the piece of crap they bought and pass it onto another sucker.

We have Toyotas, we just don’t talk about them. If you don’t get it, that’s ok. This comment made me chuckle. I like the Toyota it’s a fine car. The LC500 is what I consider to be one of if not THE most quality car currently on offer but at the end of the day. It’s still a Toyota, the Arnage is a force. A feeling. An antique. A classic. The LS600hybrid is a used car. Would I own one? Sure. Is it quality (yes and no, they actually have some issues and some very cheap interior bits) but no one would say the Cullinan (or which I am not a fan) has a cheaper interior than the Toyota. That’s wild.
