Love it! I have wanted to do this forever, as in put a small medium speed marine engine in a 7.5 ton chassis. I figured on going with a B&W Alpha 406 due to personal reasons, a significantly bigger engine than yours. Looking at your mockup makes me question the viability of the idea. I never went anywhere with it because I have no idea how to do the transmission.

that thing is very low revving, you could probably get away with direct drive and a big clutch i think its air start as well, i saw one in a factory once that had air start it was about that size, hence the holes in the flywheel, i saw it started with a large bar and the air start....... gonna need more than ear plugs when that bastard starts lol if you're going to crank it over, you need to lift the little lever on the cylinder head on each pot, that's the decompressor. Shame my dad isn't around he would show you how to rebuild it!

@tissuepaper996211 сағат бұрын
big diesel engines demand to be supercharged. it's like asking if you're going to put laces on your shoes.
@Baribrotzer9 сағат бұрын
@@tissuepaper9962 True. But Mr. Barrett probably has no information on what size of turbo to use, or what boost, or how well that particular engine stands up to it. It wasn't designed for supercharging. So it's possible that some part is absolutely strong enough for NA and has never broken in stock form - but will snap or blow up under even mild PSI.

they got used in generators a lot, i worked in an old pottery company that used one of these as an emergency generator, when it fired up it was like the wrath of god, it was so loud the noise was physical. i helped start it on an air start with a donkey engine that ran the air start, my dad fired it up, he decompressed it spun it over by hand for a couple of turns then give it a big heave and i threw the air start on, while he climbed onto it with the easy start and dropped the levers until it fired, the bloody thing shook the room it was in.... .never heard anything as loud apart from a jet car.

seller sounds like a bit of a knobhead if I'm honest. don't say you're "open to offers" if you aren't going to accept lower than listed price. this business with negotiating down to £800 and then being charged another £200 for the starter motor was clearly a bait and switch to get the full listed price. Personally I would have walked away from the deal at that point, and spread the word that this gentleman is unpleasant to do business with.

FFS ...Stop trying to overcome whatever is impeding you turning it over further, it moves. Now overhaul engine and assess the seizure issue otherwise all youre doing is most likely compounding internal damage, ie.dropped valve on piston or injector pump gear mesh damaged or bearing scouring journals. Ive seen stupid before many many times and this continual effort thinking it'll fix problem only makes problem worse. Good engine thats worth quite alot if not damaged further than needed to assess and refurbish. This is not the proper way to diagnose obvious an internal problem. Silly silly boys not intelligent men. edit: ps. DO NOT mount engine to rails using engine block as a structural portion of rails themselves, the chassis will attempt to twist in form and result in cracking the engine block itself. Make a stiff subframe rail carriage to host engine solo then mount it to rails otherwise youll end the engine block in a world of hurt, the block is cast iron and that in itself will dampen vibration but its certainly not structual. #Unsolicited advise! Thank yourself later taking heed of above!
