Coop's objectivity and wide target audience are what set him apart, in my opinion. To me, he came off more as a 'product reviewer' than a hobbyist youtuber, which isn't to say other nerf reviewers aren't good, but that Coop's were different. Tech reviewers, like MKBHD always have a standard, and most 'product reviewers'- especially in a niche like tech or nerf- have a standard reviewing procedure, and in my opinion, Coop's was the most in depth and thorough. While I do agree it's shortsighted to only listen to one persons review, I liked Coop because he provided objective opinion and left his personal remarks and comments till the end. He would talk about the specs of the blaster, shoot it, then chrono it. I remember on reddit a few years ago, Coop got some criticism regarding the fact that it seems he only stuck to stock blasters. However, it was the fact that he reviewed blasters from a consumer standpoint that set him apart- he didn't have hobbyist opinions on blasters, and by that I mean he only reviewed the blasters at face value, and not necessarily the potential they had. More on his in-depthness- Coop was usually late to the party- he would put out his review on blasters after most other youtubers like walcom or drac would have their video out already. This, I think, speaks to how thorough he was, testing the blaster for weeks, and really determining the longevity of the product someone was potentially going to spend their money on. While yes, he was not perfect in his opinions *cough imrs cough* he had his own niche and he did it best- and the lack of reviewers like him, in my opinion, is kind of a loss to the hobby.

I agree wholeheartedly on this, especially about reviewing from a consumer standpoint. As a casual plinker, I don't get into competitions or mod my blasters. Because of that, I really enjoyed how, for the longest time, Coop only reviewed stock blasters that one could find at their local Target. I lost touch when he began going over 3rd party/3d printed blasters near the end of his channel, as they're nowhere near accessible as to at least something like Adventure Force. I wonder what he thinks of the current blasters on the market right now.

@mattsubi3950 11 күн бұрын
@@BrxIghtside Yeah, its all up to personal preference, Drac was definitely more 'hobby' oriented- from when I last watched him, he would review blasters based on 'modability' and not usually just from the consumer standpoint. I will say though, his reviews did not feel as extensive as, say, Coop's reviews. No hate to him at all though, he does good at what he aims to do.

@aidenlegobatman Coop was very fond of IMR batteries- drop-in, high discharge batteries that stock motors were able to run on- it took out the hassle of rewiring, re-soldering, and replacing the motors. However, this wasn't good for the stock motors and was prone to overheating- Coop was stubborn on this and did not switch to LiPo batteries till far later than the rest of the hobby.

I don't think anyone will replace Coop! And I wouldn't want anyone to try and replace him or his content style. He was definitely a HUGE inspiration for me and starting my channel! But I think making your content, well, YOU, and not attempting to artificially recreate his format and style are the best ways to respect his legacy while creating something worthwhile.

It's cool that Coop is remembered fondly and has and should inspire reviewers. No reviewer should try to be anyone but themselves. The truth is, Coop needed to go. By who's authority do I say that? Coops' words at the end. Life and people are bigger than You Tube. He has every right to decide when he was done and ready to do other things. I hope he has Joy and Peace this Holiday. I hope he feels passion for whatever he does now and feels satisfaction in what he did with his channel.

Frank Cooper is SORELY MISSED because he was "The Bible" for providing basic stats, package contents, and visual overview of every blaster he reviewed - plus shooting footage (that was less useful since he never bothered to hang a $6.99 black flag with a target on it, LOL). But COOP was my FIRST VIDEO GO-TO when deciding if I wanted a blaster. Drac was always my second stop since he provided a lot of the same content in a bit looser format, with different opinions. But I disagree with the idea that just because Coop found a certain feature a deal-breaker that would turn off the masses. Frank Cooper is an IDIOSYNCRATIC GUY, and viewers got used to that, and priced it in when considering his advice. For example, I'm pretty sure Coop hated the Ultra line almost exclusively because of the jaggy-shaped grips (he had/has a grip fetish) but that wasn't the big problem with the Ultras, and I don't think it was Frank's opinion of the grip that ever stopped an Ultra sale - pretty sure it was the price plus the non-standard darts. 🙂

Coop's videos truly were peak. Even if they had "flaws" like you say (which I would disagree with but whatever) he's still better than 90% of Nerf youtubers nowadays. Everybody always has the safest and most lukewarm opinions on everything, like they're afraid of engaging in any sort of meaningful discussion or something. Coop had an attitude and that's what I liked about him, he had no qualms telling you if a product was garbage or not. He wasn't afraid to call out companies on their BS unlike most youtubers today. His reviews were super objective and when he gave his opinion it was always founded in facts and experience. Nobody will ever do it like him I'm afraid

I agree the Rampage is better than the Alpha trooper, honestly, and I have two strikes against the Alpha Trooper. One isn't really the Alpha Trooper's fault; Nerf packaged it in such a way as it could be primed in the package, meaning you could buy one that's been sitting with its spring compressed for months on store shelves. And they didn't fix this with the Accutrooper! Second, the Alpha Trooper is known to blow out its own air restrictor. Can't tell you what a surprise it was when my own just vomited up its own internals after a round of normal, unmodded, use.

In terms of the Big 3 for me (Walcom, Drac, and Coop), I believe they fulfilled certain reviewing niches across the spectrum. On one side of the spectrum, you had Walcom who would be the more emotional reviewer who would gush about the features and dive into the modability aspect way more. And on the other side you had Coop, who would look at it from the factual, average, consumer stand point. And then you had Drac who would be a bit down the middle providing some aspects of both. It was a wonderful time when you could cross reference these three key aspects of their review styles in order to make an informed buying decision.

Him leaving a hole isn't due to being "the only good reviewer" it's the loss of that perspective in the greater picture. It's important to have different perspectives as you say, and losing one is definitely something to mourn. People who looked at his reviews as the ones for them preferred them because his values were similar to theirs, they could trust that his opinion on a product would line up with their own sensibilities.

hot take, buying an expensive blaster like an apex prime is better than buying filament, a printer, a hardware kit, and printing a blaster. You will ultimately have more enjoyment in all metal construction than say a lynx and the cost difference will not be all that different, often cheaper if its core xy, depending on what printer you buy.

The guy asking why nobody replaced Coop, wasn’t saying that there should be an exact Coop clone, not sure why that’s the route he took when answering that question. I’m pretty sure he meant that nobody does the thing Coop did, that being, reviews of most retail releases of foam blasters, in the most objective way possible. Coop’s concept was a great thing for getting a baseline of what is worth the money and what’s not, and I knew several parents who used them to get an idea of if they should buy a blaster for their kid or not.

Maybe hot take but after being in this hobby for a year, i think that as long as you know that it's something you're interested in long term and funds permit, you should buy one expensive blaster after saving instead of accumulating many mid range blasters. I know people with enough nightingales that had they skipped that drawn out acquisition process, could have bought a diana.

The part I liked about Coop's reviews was his ability to balance breadth and terseness while being as impartial as he could until the very end. If I'm basing my purchase decisions on watching reviews, I want to watch the most objective ones that I can find and usually those were from Coop. I do get valuable info out of other reviewers, but while even Coop had his bias, I have to keep their biases in mind when they don't set them aside, especially if they are being compensated for the reviews. While we're on the subject of reviewers, another one I miss is Randomshadow09. All he did were range tests, usually stock, and since most of my battles are with little kids or I'm looking for gifts for those kids, that's typically the information I was looking for.
